  • Glasovne motnje in gastroezofagealni refluks = Voice disorders and gastroesophageal reflux
Šereg Bahar, Maja ; Janša, Rado ; Hočevar-Boltežar, Irena
Gastroesophageal reflux is manifested with typical and atypical signs, including otorhinolaryngological ones. The aim of our study was to determine the frequency of gastroesophageal reflux as the ... cause of otorhinolaryngological symptoms, as well as the meaning of our research results. Our study included 21 patients. These were suspected to have gastroesophageal reflux as the underlying cause of their otorhinolaryngological problems based on their medical history and ENT examination. Gastroscopy was performed, with biopsy of esophageal mucosa and fiberoptic laryngoscopy, and changes of laryngeal mucosa were evaluated using Belafsky's reflux finding score and acoustic analysis of voice samples. The patients were also asked to evaluate their voice disorders using a standardised questionnaire, Voice Handicap Index. The study is still in progress. Previous results indicate that fiberoptic laryngoscopy and evaluation of mucosal changes with Belafsky's reflux finding score show extraesophageal reflux disease better than esophagogastroscopy. Histological examination of esophageal mucosa proved reflux in all patients who were clinically suspected to have it.
