  • The challenge of cardiomyopathy: from clinical recognition to molecular medicine = Izziv kardiomiopatije: od kliničnega razpoznavanja do molekularne medicine

    Term cardiomyopathy, describing the non-coronary myocardial disease, was introduced nearly 50 years ago. Although first systematic approach was suggested in next years, it took another 20 years ... before first classsificationwas introduced. Substantial progress in etiology, pathogenesis,diagnostic procedures as well as therapy called for an update in the 1995. In past years, the genetics had the central role in our understanding of the cardiomyopathies. While it answered several long lasting enigmas it revealed only some of the complexity behind the cardiomy opathies. Further advances, especially in genetics, molecular biology, virology, immunology, morbid anatomy, invasive and non-invasive diagnostic technology, arrhytmology, heart failure, medical treatment, pharmacology, and cardiac surgery will help us to identify cardiomyopathies at an earlier stage and to tailor the treatment to the individual patient.
