    Acute mesenteric ischaemia is an emergency clinically most often presented with severe abdominal pain followed by nausea and vomiting. It leads to bowel gangrene peritonitis and septic shock some ... hours after onset. Based on laboratory findings and non-invasive as well as invasive imaging diagnosis should be assessed as soon as possible. Therapeutic strategies depend on the cause of ischaemia and severity of bowel injury. Anticoagulant therapy can be used as monotherapy, but most often laparotomy and necrotic bowel resection are performed. They are followed by vasodilator papaverin infusion via angiographic catheter into the superior mesenteric artery for some days.
