  • Basic characteristics of the Slovene electoral legislation
    Grad, Franc
The article consists of two major parts. In the first part the author compares the development of electoral legislation in Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia with the electoral system known in ... Slovenia nowdays. Special emphasis is given to those characteristics of the former electorial system which were the result of a specific political system, especially the socalled delegate and assembly system. In the second part the general features of the new electoral legislation in Slovenia are shown, especially the following questions: the right to vote, nomination of the candidates, the constituencies, method of voting and the allocation of seats. The last one is the most important element of the electoral system; therefore, the special emphasis is given to the political and expert reasons for its regulation as well as to the issues which differentiate the Slovene electoral system from other European electoral system.
