  • Validation and standardization of the Emotional skills and competence questionnaire (ESCQ) among Indian university students

    There is a seeming theoretical incoherence surrounding the construct emotional intelligence (EI), as well as the problematic issues related to its measurement. The development of the psychometrically ... sound measurement tools based on the coherent theoretical models is fundamental for the EI to be considered as a valid construct. The current research is aimed to reexamine the psychometric properties and the factor structure of the Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire (ESCQ), as well as to evaluate the convergent validity in terms of its relationship with the multidimensional Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) developed and standardized in the Indian cultural settings. The results indicated that the self-report measure of emotional competence is reliable and valid. Moreover, the factor structure of the questionnaire is confirmed, and other psychometric properties are found to be much in line with the earlier studies conducted in various cultural backgrounds.
