    This paper delas with the influence of samarium on the microstructure of the Al-Si alloys with silicion content between 5,0 and 15,0 mass %. The investigated ternary Al-Si-Sm alloys were prepared ... using the Al-Si(12.98 mass % Si) and Al-Sm(17,3 mass % Sm) masteralloys. It the been found that samarium addition to the Al-Si alloys caused a complex constitution and alloys microstructure due to the formation of new intermetallic compound and heterogenous structures. The samarium addition also resulted in a refined ▫$\beta_{Si}&▫ eutectic phase which appeared within the ternary ▫$(\alpfa_{Al} + \beta_{Si} + Al_{2}Si_{2}Sm)$▫ eutectic or binary ▫$(\alpha_{Al} + \beta_{Si})▫$ eutectic, the latter being formed only sporadicaly. Intermatallic ▫$Al_{2}Si{2]Sm▫$ compound is already formed when samarium content is 2,5 or more mass %, while newly identified intermetallic AlSiSm compound appeared when samarium content exceeded 5,0 mass %.
