  • Chrystalline structure of polypropylene fibers by wide-angle X-ray scattering analysis
    Malej-Kveder, Sonja ...
The influence of drawing conditions on the development of crystalline structure in polypropylene fibers was studied by wide-angle X-ray scattering measurements. Polypropylene fibers were spun from a ... CR-polymer and three-stage continuosly drawn on a laboratory spin-draw device. High-modulus fibers were obtained by subsequent hot drawing. X-ray flat-film patterns and WAXS diffraction curves show that as-spun fiber has an unoriented structure. Continuous drawing causes the development of the so called oriented "smectic" structure, while hot drawing causes the development of c-axis orientation of the [alfa]-monoclinic crystalline modification. Polypropylene fiber produced in a discontinuous drawing process at 145 oC has the highest value of tenacity and elastic modulus. It is evident that drawing to the limiting draw ratio at 145 oC causes the development of the most crystalline and highest oriented structure among all drawn samples.
