Thesyndrome may follow an infectious disease usually of viral origin, but may be paraneoplastic, associated with a neuroblastoma. The course is ojten prolonged with recurrences but gradual and stepwise improvement. The majority of affected children are left with mental retardation, motorandž orspeech disturbances. There are no known criteria to predict prognosis. Corticosteroidor corticotropin are recommended treatment regimes. Conclusions. The boy with OMAS is described. The diagnosis was made in retrospect. He was not treated, however inspite of thisfacthe has only mild mental retardation and tremorof the hands. He also developed epileptic fits which responded to antiepileptic treatment.
