    In the last decade, scientists around the world have been intensively studyingt the protective effects of wine, especially wine polyphenols, since the latter have very strong antioxidant ... characteristics. It has been proven both in vitro as well as in vivo that wine contains many natural polyphenols, exerting antioxidant activities against free radicals and thus slowing down the progress of cardio-vascular diseases, certain types of cancer and certain neurological diseases. It is known that certain polyphenol compounds have much stronger antioxidant characteristics than the known antioxidants like vitamin E. Scientists have published many results of antioxidant tests of various red and white wines as well as their polyphenol extracts and many individual wine polyphenols that are the most important in terms of the level of their amount.
