    Alveolina cucumiformis Hottinger, 1960 is considered a junior synonym of A. vredenburgi Davies and Pinfold, 1937 as emended on the grounds of a topotype taphocoenosis recovered from the uppermost ... Patala shales at Makerval, Surghar Range. The synonymy permits to combine the biostratigraphic ranges of the specimens attributed so-far to different taxa and to use them for trans-Tethyan correlation. Thus, the presence of A. vredenburgi indicates the shallow benthic biozones SBZ 5 and 6 which correspond to the planktic foraminiferal zone P 5 (Morozovella velascoensis) as deduced from direct associations in the type locality and from indirect, complex, Tethys-wide correlation.
