Objective
To study the clinical effect and the endocrine mechanism of acupuncture therapy on menopause syndrome.
Method
There were 47 cases with menopause syndrome, which were divided into two ...groups, 32 cases in the acupuncture group, treated by acupuncture with main acupoins of Shenshu (BL 23), Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6), and 15 cases in the control group, treated by orally taking the Oryzanol. The Kupperman index of the two groups was observed before and after treatment for evaluating the therapeutic effect. The changes of blood-serum E

, T, FSH, LH of the 25 cases in the acupuncture group were tested by radioimmunoassay before and after the treatment.
Results
The acupuncture therapy can relieve the clinical symptoms of menopause syndrome, and its therapeutic effect was better than Oryzanol. After being treated by acupuncture therapy, the content of blood-serum E
2
obviously increased, while the contents of LH and T declined, and the FSH also had a tendency to lower, but it was not statistically significant.
Conclusion
The therapeutic effect of acupuncture therapy for menopause is confirmed. The acupuncture therapy can improve the function of hypophysial-gonadal axis of the patient with menopause syndrome, which may be the main mechanism of the acupuncture therapy for treating menopause syndrome.
Objective
To observe the effects of herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion and bran-partition moxibustion in improving symptoms of ulcerative colitis (UC) and the TNF-α and its receptor of colon mucosa.
...Method
67 UC cases were randomly allocated into herbal cake-partition moxibustion group of 35 cases and bran-partitioned moxibustion group of 32 cases, to compare the improvement and detect the TNF-α and its receptor with immuno-histochemical method in both groups.
Result
Herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion is prior to bran-partitioned moxibustion in improving of diarrhea, flatus, lassitude, tenesmus and lumbar soreness; The expression of TNF-α,TNF-αR1, and TNF-αR2 are significantly decreased after treatment in herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion group, while in bran-partitioned moxibustion group only TNF-αR1 expression is significant decreased after treatment.
Conclusion
Moxibustion can well improve the syndromes of UC, Herbal cake-partitioned Moxibustion is prior to bran-partitioned moxibustion in the improvement of diarrhea and flatus; Herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion could down-regulate the expression of TNF-α,TNF-αR1, and TNF-αR2, while bran-partitioned moxibustion could only down-regulate the expression of TNF-αR1.
Objective
To investigate the effect of acupuncture on serum superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) of rats in menopause.
Methods
Female rats in menopause were randomly allocated into ...acupuncture, drugs and control groups, which were treated with acupuncture, Gengnian’an Tablet, and nothing, respectively. In addition, some young female rats were used as control. After 17-day treatments, serum SOD and MDA were measured with biochemical methods.
Results
Compared with the young rats, rats in menopause had lower contents of serum SOD(

<0.01), and higher contents of MDA(

<0.01). After acupuncture treatment, the contents of serum SOD increased(

<0.05), and MDA decreased(
P
<0.05).
Conclusion
Acupuncture could increase the serum SOD contents and decrease the serum MDA contents of rats in menopause.
Objective
To observe the influence of moxibustion serum of mice on the expression of Fas, bcl-2 mRNA and protein of EL-4 lymphoma cells in vitro.
Method
The EL-4 lymphoma cells were cultivated for 24 ...h in the moxibustion serum of mice. The expression of Fas and bcl-2 mRNA of EL-4 lymphoma cells were detected by in-situ hybridization method, and the protein expression of Fas and bcl-2 were observed by the immuocytochemistry method.
Results
The expression of bcl-2 mRNA and protein decreased, and the expression of Fas mRNA and protein increased significantly in EL-4 cells, which were cultivated in the moxibustion serum compared those cultivated in normal mice serum (

<0.05).
Conclusion
Moxibustion serum could down-regulate the bcl-2 mRNA and protein and up-regulate the Fas mRNA and protein of EL-4 cells.
Objective
To observe the effects of electroacupuncture on the histopathological changes and serum indexes of rats’ liver, and to investigate the mechanism of electroacupuncture in treating hepatic ...fibrosis of rats.
Methods
The rat model of hepatic fibrosis was induced with carbon tetrachloride. Then, the rats were divided into electroacupuncture group, medicine group, and model group. The collagen of liver, and serum hyaluronic acid (HA), laminin (LN), procollagen III (PIIINP), and collagen IV (C-IV) were detected with morphologic methods and radioimmunoassay.
Results
Compared with normal rats, the collagen was hyperplasia in the liver tissue, and the contents of the serum HA, LN, and PIIINP were higher in the model group. The collagen area of liver tissue, and the contents of the serum HA, and LN were lower in rats treated with electroacupuncture than model rats. The contents of serum of PIIINP, and C-IV changed little.
Conclusion
Electroacupuncture had some effects of prevention and treatment, and the mechanism may relate to the effects of electroacupuncture in protecting liver cells, inhibiting synthesis of extracellular matrix, and promoting the breakup of collagen.
