Devolatilization behavior of pulverized coal in a drop tube furnace (DTF) has been calculated with the measured gas temperature and velocity. The particle temperature and velocity were calculated ...from the energy and momentum equations of particle by using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. The volatile evolved from the particle along with the reactor tube was also calculated varying the wall temperature of reaction tube as well as the particle diameter. The optimal kinetic parameters of subbituminous coal were obtained from the volatile evolution data of the devolatilization experiment in the DTF by error minimization. KCI Citation Count: 2
The stability of flywheels in an energy storage system supported by active magnetic bearings (AMBs) is studied in this paper. We designed and built two flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) that can ...store up to 5 kWh of usable energy at a maximum speed of 18,000 rpm. One is optimized to store as much energy as possible, resulting in a flywheel with a strong gyroscopic coupling. The other has a much smaller gyroscopic coupling for ease of control. To analyze the stability of the system accurately, we derived the dynamic models of the rotor using finite-element method and integrated them with the models of the bearings, amplifiers, and sensors to obtain the simulation model of the system. We validated the model through experiments and compared the stability of these two systems.

The pyrolysis characteristics of pulverized coal particle was numerically analyzed with the drop tube furnace. Based on the simulated gas flow field in the drop tube furnace, the particle velocity, ...temperature and volatile evolution were calculated with the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. The effects of changes in reactor wall temperature and particle diameter on the pyrolysis behavior of coal particle were investigated. The particle heating rate was very sensitive to the reactor wall temperature and particle size, that is, the higher wall temperature and the smaller particle size resulted in the higher heating rate and the consequent quicker volatile evolution.
The combined cycle plant is an integration of gas turbine and steam turbine, combining the advantages of both cycles. It recovers the heat energy from gas turbine exhaust to use it to generate steam. ...The heat recovery steam generator plays a crucial role in combined cycle plants, providing the link between the gas turbine and the steam turbine. Simulation of the performance of the HRSG is required to study its effect on the entire cycle and system. Computational fluid dynamics has potential to become a useful to validate the performance of the HRSG. In this study a solver has been implemented in the open source code, OpenFOAM, for combustion simulation in the heat recovery steam generator. The solver is based on the steady laminar flamelet model to simulate detailed chemical reaction mechanism. Thereafter, the solver is used for simulation of HRSG system. Three cases with varying fuel injections and gas turbine exhaust gas flow rates were simulated and the results were compared with measurements at the system outlet. Predicted temperature and emissions and those from measurements showed the same trend and in quantitative agreement.

In heavy nuclear power plant, high energy through main steam line is provided to turbine that generate the electric power. Since plant had generated power, high noise has been occurred. Noise make ...equipments and work environment worse. For finding out the location and the cause of making noise, noise was measured along main steam line at open/close test of Main Steam Isolation Valve (MSIV hereafter). As the result, it was identified that the vortex shedding in the cavity of MSIV is main noise source. The profile change of MSIV seat ring was proposed as the method of noise reduction. After filletting MSIV seat ring, the noise level reduced $10{\sim}20dB$ compared before the change of profile.
