We present the charged-particle multiplicity distributions over a wide pseudorapidity range ( Formula omitted) for pp collisions at Formula omitted, and 8 TeV at the LHC. Results are based on ...information from the Silicon Pixel Detector and the Forward Multiplicity Detector of ALICE, extending the pseudorapidity coverage of the earlier publications and the high-multiplicity reach. The measurements are compared to results from the CMS experiment and to PYTHIA, PHOJET and EPOS LHC event generators, as well as IP-Glasma calculations.
The transverse momentum ( Formula omitted) spectra and elliptic flow coefficient ( Formula omitted) of deuterons and anti-deuterons at mid-rapidity ( Formula omitted) are measured with the ALICE ...detector at the LHC in Pb-Pb collisions at Formula omitted = 2.76 TeV. The measurement of the Formula omitted spectra of (anti-)deuterons is done up to 8 GeV Formula omitted in 0-10% centrality class and up to 6 GeV Formula omitted in 10-20% and 20-40% centrality classes. The Formula omitted is measured in the 0.8 1.8 GeV Formula omitted within the experimental uncertainties. The measurement of the coalescence parameter Formula omitted is performed, showing a Formula omitted dependence in contrast with the simplest coalescence model, which fails to reproduce also the measured Formula omitted coefficient. In addition, the coalescence parameter Formula omitted and the elliptic flow coefficient in the 20-40% centrality interval are compared with the AMPT model which is able, in its version without string melting, to reproduce the measured Formula omitted( Formula omitted) and the Formula omitted( Formula omitted) trend.
The production cross sections for prompt charmed mesons Formula omitted, Formula omitted, Formula omitted and Formula omitted were measured at mid-rapidity in proton-proton collisions at a ...centre-of-mass energy Formula omitted with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). D mesons were reconstructed from their decays Formula omitted, Formula omitted, Formula omitted, Formula omitted, and their charge conjugates. With respect to previous measurements in the same rapidity region, the coverage in transverse momentum ( Formula omitted) is extended and the uncertainties are reduced by a factor of about two. The accuracy on the estimated total Formula omitted production cross section is likewise improved. The measured Formula omitted-differential cross sections are compared with the results of three perturbative QCD calculations.
The transverse momentum distributions of the strange and double-strange hyperon resonances ( Formula omitted, Formula omitted) produced in p-Pb collisions at Formula omitted TeV were measured in the ...rapidity range Formula omitted for event classes corresponding to different charged-particle multiplicity densities, Formula omittedd Formula omitted/d Formula omitted. The mean transverse momentum values are presented as a function of Formula omittedd Formula omitted/d Formula omitted, as well as a function of the particle masses and compared with previous results on hyperon production. The integrated yield ratios of excited to ground-state hyperons are constant as a function of Formula omittedd Formula omitted/d Formula omitted. The equivalent ratios to pions exhibit an increase with Formula omittedd Formula omitted/d Formula omitted, depending on their strangeness content.
We evaluated a combination of noninsecticidal alternatives to control trunk-damaging dogwood borer, Synanthedon scitula (Harris), consisting of novel barrier technologies, used alone or in ...combination with mating disruption. Barrier formulations evaluated included fibrous barriers of nonwoven ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and nonfibrous barriers of rubberized paint (elastomer) used in building coatings. To examine efficacy of dogwood borer control in orchards, all barrier trials were replicated in field tests, both in combination with mating disruption and without it. Trunk inspections to determine whether mating disruption and barriers effectively reduced actual tree infestation showed pheromone disruption significantly reduced infestation compared with the untreated check, but was not as effective as trunk handgun sprays of chlorpyrifos. EVA trunk barriers were effective in preventing borer infestation compared with untreated trees. The elastomer did not differ from the check or the EVA treatment. There was no interaction between disruption and barrier treatments. Barrier field life and durability was assessed over 2 yr by comparing degradation over time due to weathering and other environmental effects including animal damage. The EVA persisted and remained more intact than the elastomer, but was in need of reapplication after 2 yr. Barriers were also screened for efficacy against voles in small-plot trials in nonorchard locations with known high vole pressure; they were tested either alone, combined with a repellent (thiram), or, in the case of the elastomer only, combined with an abrasive (sand). Only the EVA significantly lowered vole chewing damage relative to the untreated checks.
A detailed study of pseudorapidity densities and multiplicity distributions of primary charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions, at Formula omitted 0.9, 2.36, 2.76, 7 and 8 TeV, in the ...pseudorapidity range Formula omitted, was carried out using the ALICE detector. Measurements were obtained for three event classes: inelastic, non-single diffractive and events with at least one charged particle in the pseudorapidity interval Formula omitted. The use of an improved track-counting algorithm combined with ALICE's measurements of diffractive processes allows a higher precision compared to our previous publications. A KNO scaling study was performed in the pseudorapidity intervals Formula omitted 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5. The data are compared to other experimental results and to models as implemented in Monte Carlo event generators PHOJET and recent tunes of PYTHIA6, PYTHIA8 and EPOS.
Antineutron annihilation cross sections on C, Al, Cu, Ag, Sn and Pb targets were measured in the momentum range 50–400 MeV/
