This study is the second leg of a two-leg project. In the first leg, the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare workers (HCWs) was investigated in the period between the first case in Turkey ...and the arrival of the first case in the hospital.
In this second leg, three months after the first evaluation, we aimed to investigate whether psychological effects of COVID-19 such as stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep quality have been changed on HCWs.
This was a 3-month observational study. 169 hospital staff who participated in the first leg of the study were reached and asked to participate in the second leg evaluation in Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Hospital.110 HCWs accepted to participate. Impact of Event Scale (EIS-R), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used to assess in both two legs. Paired Sample T-test was used for comparison of normally distributed variables. Wilcoxon test was used for the comparison of abnormally distributed variables. SPSS 22.0 software was used in the analysis of variables.
Of the HCWs with an average age of 33.9±6.6 years, 59% (65) were males. There was no significant difference between the two legs in terms of IES-R, DASS-21, and PSQI scales.
This study suggests that the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on HCWs started with the pandemic, before the arrival of the first case in the hospital. Also, these psychological effects continued similarly without significant change after the initiation of direct contact with COVID-19 patients and even after the increase in COVID-19 patients in a hospital which in they work.

Our aim is to reveal the interaction of cultural and religious influences with professional equipment by determining the level of knowledge, sexual attitudes, and homophobia of medical students about ...LGBTI+ individuals. The study included 324 students from our faculty of medicine. The Hudson and Ricketts Homophobia scale, the Attitudes Towards Lesbians and Gay Men scale, and the Hendrick Sexual Attitudes scale were used with the sociodemograpic data form. Data were collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tests. The mean score of the students from the Hudson and Ricketts Homophobia scale was 58.50. The findings of our study support that medical students consider that the education they receive in this regard is inadequate. One of the goals of undergraduate medical education is the provision of health services to all segments of society; therefore, it is recommended to make improvements in the curriculum in this regard.
Substance use and addiction are an increasing problem worldwide. Knowledge of the frequency and features of substance use contribute to ascertaining the addiction trends in a country, region or city, ...taking precautions for drug use, establishing policies on treatment and rehabilitation, and determining patient needs.
The files of individuals who were hospitalized in the Gaziantep Alcohol and Substance Addictions Treatment Center (AMATEM) Clinic between 01.01.2019 and 31.12.2019 were examined retrospectively. The SPSS 22.0 program was used in statistical analyses of patient data.
This study included 694 patients, where 670 of whom were male (96.5%) and 24 were female (3.5%). Considering the diagnoses of the patients, opioid use disorder and amphetamine/methamphetamine use disorder were the most common diagnoses at 47.1% and 13%, respectively. A statistically significant difference was found between the diagnostic groups in terms of age, educational status, occupation, whether there was any suicide attempts, and treatment outcomes (p value for all <0.05).
Our study is the first study conducted in the Gaziantep AMATEM Clinic, which is the only inpatient drug and alcohol center in the Southeastern Anatolia region. Our findings showed that alcohol/substance use is a dynamic problem that negatively affects many areas of life including work and education life, and family and social relationships.
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to determine the impacts of cognitive distortions of patients diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder on medication adherence. Methods: The study ...was carried out during the dates of 20.01.2019 and 20.05.2019 on patients diagnosed with anxiety who applied to the Gaziantep University Sahinbey Research and Application Hospital Psychiatry Polyclinic as outpatients and inpatients. Personal Information Form, Cognitive Distortions Scale and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale were used for assessment. The patients were divided into two groups as those with low treatment adherence and those with moderate/high treatment adherence. Results: Of the 96 patients, 20.8% were in the 25-29 age groups with %58 females. 46.9% were married and the education level of 35.4% was primary school. There were no significant differences between cognitive distortions and treatment compliance in the total evaluation of cognitive distortions related to interpersonal relationships and distortions related to personal achievement (p>0.05). There was a significant differences between treatment adherence and cognitive distortions in minimizing/neglecting the positive in interpersonal relationships in terms of the evaluation of each cognitive distortions (p=0.03). Discussion: Minimizing/neglecting the positive cognitive distortion were negatively correlated with treatment compliance. In combination of pharmacotherapy and cognitive therapies, the detection and prioritization of distortions primarily related to minimizing/neglecting the positive may contribute to the effectiveness of treatment. Kisilerarasi iliskiler ile ilgili bilissel carpitmalar ve basari degerlendirmesi ile ilgili carpitmalarin toplam degerlendirmesinde tedavi uyumu ile bilissel carpitmalar arasinda anlamli bir iliski saptanmamistir (p>0.05). Bilissel carpitmalarin tek tek degerlendirmesinde tedavi uyumu dusuk olanlarin kisilerarasi iliskilerde olumluyu azim- sama/yok sayma bilissel carpitmalari daha yogun oldugu saptanmistir (p=0.03). Sonuc: Olumluyu azimsama/yok sayma bilissel carpitmasi tedavi uyumu ile negatif iliskilidir. The aim of this study was to investigate the contribution of skill training provided in a community mental health center to cognitive functions and activities of daily living of patients with ...schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or bipolar disorder. Our study included 39 patients, who regularly attended the skill training carried out in a community mental health center. The patients were administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test and the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale at the beginning of the study and at the end of 6th month. A statistically significant increase was observed in the end of 6th month scores of both scales compared to their baseline values. As a conclusion, the skill training help patients improve their cognitive functions and they are assumed to enable patients to perform their daily activities on their own by having positive contribution to their activities of daily living and to help them become more active in their social relationships. Objective: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective treatment method used in many psychiatric disorders, primarily in mood and psychotic disorders. ECT is also effective and safe for geriatric ...depression. This study aimed to analyze elderly patients treated with ECT in bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and psychotic disorder diagnostic groups. Methods: In this study, we retrospectively reviewed 58 geriatric patients over 60 years old who were treated with ECT between January 2014 and December 2017. Patients' sociodemographic data, preliminary American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status assessments (ASA) scores and Clinical Global Impression (CGI), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), Positive and Negative Symptom (PANSS) Scales before and after ECT were analyzed. Results: CGI, HAMD, YMRS and PANSS scores have significantly decreased after ECT. According to preoperative anesthesia consultations of the patients, 62.1% (n=36) were assessed to be in ASA 2 risk group and 34.5% (n=20) in ASA 3 risk group. One patient in the ASA 2 risk group and four patients in ASA 3 group had to discontinue treatment due to cardiovascular instability. These patients were administered medical treatment. There were no other mortalities or severe complications. Conclusion: This data shows that there were no mortalities or severe complications in elderly patients and supports the effectiveness and safety of ECT in elderly patients with bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and psychotic disorder. Bu calismada EKT ile tedavi edilen yasli hastalarin bipolar bozukluk, major depresif bozukluk ve psikotik bozukluk tani gruplarinda incelenmesi amaclandi. Yontem: Bu calismada, Ocak 2014-Aralik 2017 tarihleri arasinda EKT ile tedavi edilen 60 yas ustu 58 geriyatrik hasta geriye donuk olarak degerlendirildi. Hastalarin sosyodemografik verileri, Amerikan Anesteziyoloji Dernegi (ASA) fiziksel durum siniflandirmasi ve EKT oncesi ve sonrasi bakilan Klinik Global Izlem (KGI), Hamilton Depresyon Derecelendirme Olcegi (HAMD), Young Mani Derecelendirme Olcegi (YMRS), Pozitif ve Negatif Semptom Olcegi (PANSS) puanlari analiz edildi. Bulgular: KGI, HAMD, YMRS ve PANSS skorlarinda EKT sonrasi istatistiksel olarak anlamli azalma saptandi. Preoperatif anestezi konsultasyonlarina gore hastalarin %62.1'inin (s=36) ASA 2 risk grubunda, %34.5'inin (s=20) ASA 3 risk grubunda oldugu belirlendi. ASA 2 risk grubundaki bir hasta ve ASA 3 grubundaki dort hastada, kardiyovaskuler instabilite olmasi nedeniyle EKT'ye devam edilememis, tibbi tedavi uygulanmistir. Bunlar disinda olum veya ciddi komplikasyon saptanmamistir. Sonuc: Calismamizdan elde ettigimiz verilerde yasli hastalarda olum veya ciddi komplikasyon gozlenmemistir ve bu veriler EKT'nin bipolar bozukluk, major depresif bozukluk ve psikotik bozuklugu olan yasli hastalarda etkinligini ve guvenilirligini desteklemektedir.
