U drugom dijelu donosimo rezultate kvalitativnog istraživanja o ulozi vjere u njihovim životima, provedenog u Hrvatskoj u sklopu međunarodnog projekta „Istraživanje beskućništva i puteva do socijalne inkluzije: Komparativna studija konteksta i izazova u švicarskim i hrvatskim gradovima”.
Meeting basic needs (accommodation, food etc.) is extremely important for people experiencing homelessness, but it is not enough because it does not ensure the psychological and spiritual help that they need to cope with life’s difficulties and to exit homelessness. In the first part of this paper, we discuss the ways in which the importance of religion/spirituality in the lives of people experiencing homelessness was explored. In the second part, qualitative research results on the role of faith in their lives in Croatia are presented. This study is part of an international project “Exploring Homelessness and Pathways to Social Inclusion: A Comparative Study of Contexts and Challenges in Swiss and Croatian Cities”. According to our research, faith has proven to be an important factor in the lives of people experiencing homelessness. In dealing with life’s difficulties, respondents use positive religious strategies: prayer, going to church and on pilgrimages participating in rituals, and reading the Bible. The purpose of this paper is to encourage the development of pastoral care for people experiencing homelessness in Croatia.
The intention of this article is to shed light on the contemporary polarization of Croatian society to the Left and Right of politics and the way in which the ideas of gender, gender ‘ideology’ and ...cultural war are used in this polarization, as well as the possible influence of these polarizations on the further development of equitable gender relations in Croatia. The reason why the debate about gender ‘ideology’ is a powerful polarizing factor in Croatia will be expounded against the background of the historical antagonism between communism and the Catholic Church and the role attributed in this antagonism to the feminist movement, as well as on the basis of the presentations of gender ‘ideology’ interpretations in the documents of the Catholic Church. The basic postulation in the article is that contemporary socio-political discourses will not stop the developmental process of egalitarian gender models in Croatia. Sociological research shows that Croatian society is not actually polarized but represents a complex structure in which elements of pre-modern, modern and post-modern interweave, and that alongside tendencies to reinstitute traditional values the trend toward the modernization of value-orientated stands is also apparent. As far as the latter is concerned, gender equality is precisely the thin thread of modernization that can be pinpointed in the process.
Previous research suggested that women and men experience their leisure time differently (i.e. time not committed to the labour force, domestic caregiving, or personal care). In relation to ...quantitative differences, studies worldwide have confirmed that a gender gap in leisure time use exists even though both women's and men's lives may be enriched through opportunity for leisure. In this article, we examine the organisation of time in the domains of leisure and its gender dimensions in Croatia. To determine whether demographic characteristics (e.g. education, age, employment) and household organisation (e.g. presence of children, time spent doing housework, number of household activities) account for considerable variation in leisure time, we focus on married and cohabiting individuals. Apart from gender differences, we will also investigate whether there are regional differences in leisure time use. An explanation of forces that result in gendered and regional differences of leisure time use in Croatia is discussed.
Secular–religious dichotomy has been criticised in discourse on secularisation theory as well as in discussions of the relationship between secular and religious feminism. Feminist theorists have ...criticised the secular–religious divide of feminism for overlooking facts such as the inherent gendering of this dichotomy, the participation of women believers in the gender equality movement since its inception, and the contributions of feminist theologians and gender studies scholars who use their respective religious traditions as a basis for gender egalitarianism. This article will criticise secular–religious dichotomy for overlooking the fact that secular, rather than religious, principles underlie gender stereotypes. Namely, Christian and Islamic theological anthropology has accepted philosophical postulates regarding the nature of women and used them to build models of subordination and complementarity of gender relations, thereby neglecting the egalitarian anthropology that can be developed based on the holy scriptures of both traditions. One of the challenges in exploring the secular-religious dichotomy can be found in the anti-gender movement in which believers join secular organizations and use secular discourse to advocate and preserve gender stereotypes.

Abstract Until the 1990s, secular feminism prevailed in the socialist Balkan countries, while religious feminism appeared only as an exception in the works of certain Catholic theologians. After ...democratic changes, gender equality was reaffirmed, but there was no dialogue in feminist knowledge production between secular and religious feminists. This paper presents initiatives by religious scholars and activists aimed at overcoming the secular‐religious divide in achieving gender equality. It looks at two key regional initiatives: Believers and Citizens, and the Feminism and Religion online school. These initiatives established collaborations between feminist scholars from various academic disciplines, religions, and worldviews and connected activists from civil society organizations and religious communities. The interreligious and interdisciplinary nature of these initiatives is unique not only in the Balkan region but also in the world.
