The effect of expanded vermiculite (e-VMT) was evaluated relative to the physical, mechanical, and flame retardancy performance of flat-pressed wood plastic composites (WPCs). Various contents of ...e-VMT (2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 15%) were added instead of wood flour (WF) to the matrix. Due to the hydrophilic nature of the WF, water absorption (WA) and thickness swelling (TS) of WPCs increased as compared to neat polymer-based panels. Meanwhile, e-VMT incorporation limited the WA and TS values. As expected, the lowest WA and TS values were obtained from the highest e-VMT-reinforced WPCs. The addition of e-VMT was also found to enhance the mechanical properties of WPCs. As the e-VMT content increased and the WF content decreased, there was an improvement in flexural strength, modulus of elasticity (MOE), and tensile strength. Compared to the neat polymer panels, the MOE of WPCs increased by up to 77%. Additionally, the flame retardancy performance of WPCs improved with e-VMT reinforcement, with limiting oxygen index (LOI) values increasing up to 24%. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images also demonstrated the favorable integration of e-VMT with matrix, thereby improving the mechanical properties. The inconsistency between WF and polymer was also well-observed, highlighting the tendency of WF to interact easily with water.
This book portrays evidence and gathering of evidence under the current Croatian regulation relating to evidence and in practice. In this context, the author first analyses the fundamental principles ...of Croatian civil procedure and law of evidence. Then, the general principles of evidence and gathering of evidence are discussed, as well as the general rule on the burden of proof. The question of gathering of evidence through modern technology (videoconferencing, etc.) in the Croatian law and practice is also discussed. Separate parts of this book contain the analysis of means of proof regulated by the Croatian Civil Procedure Act: inspection of object ('view'), documents, witness testimony, expert testimony, and party testimony. The rules on costs caused by gathering of evidence, including the costs for translation are analysed, as well as the rules on language. The concepts of illegally obtained evidence and illegal evidence in the Croatian law and practice are discussed. This volume contains the report about the Council Regulation (EC) No 1206/2001 and the multilateral and bilateral legal assistance treaties to which Croatia is a party. There are several appendices to this book: a table of authorities according to the Regulation No 1206/2001, and relevant sources of Croatian civil procedure, table of case law on evidence, table portraying a ordinary/common civil procedure timeline, table referring to legal interpretation in the Croatian legal system, and comparative tables focusing on functional differences between national regulation, bilateral legal assistance treaties, multilateral treaties, and Council Regulation (EC) No 1206/2001 on taking of evidence by hearing of witnesses. This book is a result of the Dimensions of Evidence in European Civil Procedure research project commissioned by European Commission, Directorate-General Justice.
It is increasingly being accepted that there is a benefit to both parties when a relationship is established between an NGO and a company. Consequently a considerable number of strategic alliances ...have been established. It must be accepted that such alliances are not necessarily mutually beneficial but little research has been undertaken to determine the factors which facilitate or mitigate against such mutual benefit. Indeed it is only recently that such relationship shave started to be examined at all. The contributions in this volume seek to redress this by researching various aspects of such relationships in order to arrive at some conclusions regarding the potential benefits and pitfalls of such relationships. The various contributors speak from different perspectives and different locations around the world and have different experiences and interpretations to offer. The results therefore present a diverse but balanced picture of the potential of any relationship between NGOs, companies and corporate social responsibility.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. CRNDE is a novel-defined lncRNA. We evaluated the possibility of using CRDNE circulating lncRNA as a noninvasive biomarker. Also, we ...examined the effect of circulating CRNDE lncRNA on the pathogenesis of CRC and its association with the KRAS, NRAS, and BRAF somatic variants commonly observed in CRC. In this study, we enrolled plasma and FFPE tissue samples of 50 advanced CRC patients and plasma samples of 31 individuals in the control group of similar ages. Then, we performed plasma extraction, total RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, and circulating lncRNA expression analysis, respectively. Also, we carried out KRAS, NRAS, and BRAF somatic variant analysis from FFPE tissues. Our results showed that the expression level of CRNDE (p= 0.002) were significantly upregulated in the CRC when it was compared to with the control group. The calculated area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic was 0.70. We found a statistically significant difference between the KRAS somatic variants and the circulating CRNDE lncRNA (p= 0.031). This study demonstrated that CRNDE circulating lncRNAs may be used as a potential non-invasive biomarker in CRC. In our study, it was determined that there is a significant relationship between the frequently observed KRAS somatic variants and CRNDE in advanced-stage CRC cases. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to show the association of CRNDE circulating lncRNA with advanced CRC. Moreover, it is the first study to show a relationship between the KRAS somatic variants between circulating CRNDE lncRNA in advanced CRC. Keywords: CRNDE, Circulating lncRNA, KRAS, CRC, RT-PCR
This volume examines the word that's on everybody's lips in business, in government and in society - sustainability. There are of course many aspects of sustainability which might be considered to ...reflect Brundtland's three pillars of economic, environmental and social sustainability. Others of course have different definitions which include such things as governance or supply chain management. Nevertheless business has recognised the significance of the concept and is responding by developing strategies to cope, although some would say that this is little more than window dressing. The debate continues however as to just what is meant by the term sustainability as far as business is concerned and how can this be achieved. This book is designed to address this debate and set it within the context of the global business and societal environment.
Posttransplant hyperlipidemia is a common complication which may affect long term cardiovascular mortality. In this prospective, placebo-controlled study, 19 renal transplant recipients (11 male 8 ...female, mean age 31.2 +/- 8.4 years) with good allograft function (serum creatinine <2 mg/dl) more than 6 months after transplantation were included. All the patients had hyperlipidemia (serum cholesterol >230 mg/dl and/or LDL-cholesterol >130 mg/dl) despite dietary interventions. The patients were treated with a triple immunosuppressive regimen. After a 8-week period of placebo plus diet regimen, the patients were put on fluvastatin plus diet for another 8 weeks. The patients were followed for its effect on lipid parameters and side effects. After convertion to fluvastatin, serum cholesterol (263.0 +/- 31.6 vs 223.2 +/- 31.6 mg/dl, p = 0.001), LDL-cholesterol (174.4 +/- 28.3 vs 136.4 +/- 28.5 mg/dl, p = 0.002), Apolipoprotein (Apo) A1 (131.1 +/- 16.9 vs 114.7 +/- 18.4 mg/dl, p = 0.001) and Apo B (109.0 +/- 29.8 vs 97.3 +/- 31.5 mg/dl, p = 0.02) levels decreased significantly. Serum levels of triglycerides, VLDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol levels did not vary under fluvastatin. Serum lipoprotein (a) levels were also unchanged during the whole study period (24.9 +/- 19.4 vs 23.1 +/- 19.8 mg/dl, p > 0.05). We concluded that fluvastatin effectively decreased atherogenic lipoproteins such as serum cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B in posttransplant hyperlipidemia, however fluvastatin had no effect on another independent risk factor of atherogenesis, serum lipoprotein (a) levels.
The Askaryan Radio Array (ARA) is an ultrahigh energy (UHE, > 1017 eV) neutrino detector designed to observe neutrinos by searching for the radio waves emitted by the relativistic products of ...neutrino-nucleon interactions in Antarctic ice. In this paper, we present constraints on the diffuse flux of ultrahigh energy neutrinos between 1016 and 1021 eV resulting from a search for neutrinos in two complementary analyses, both analyzing four years of data (2013–2016) from the two deep stations (A2, A3) operating at that time. We place a 90% CL upper limit on the diffuse all flavor neutrino flux at 1018 eV of EF(E) = 5.6 × 10−16 cm−2 s−1 sr−1. This analysis includes four times the exposure of the previous ARA result and represents approximately 1 / 5 th the exposure expected from operating ARA until the end of 2022.
