This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out through a literature review. The aim of the study was to address the use of educational technologies in self-care guidance for ...ostomy patients. As a method, twelve scientific articles were used, published between 2016 and 2021 on scientific websites and platforms. The results showed that an educational technology aimed at guiding people with an ostomy is important due to the changes that occur after the ostomy and that the use of technologies during educational actions is seen as a tool that complements the process of knowledge construction for care and o taking care of oneself, qualifying interventions in health practice with people with stoma and their families. Health professionals play the role of educators and must participate in the process of elaboration, development and evaluation of the need to implement educational technologies with ostomy patients and their families.
The study aimed to investigate, through the literature, the historical evolution and perspectives of the humanization process of care during childbirth. This is a bibliographic research, in which two ...databases were searched, namely: SciELO and LILACS, with national publications in the last 10 years. Fourteen scientific articles were analyzed using articles published in Portuguese as inclusion criteria; full articles and articles published and indexed in the aforementioned databases in the period from 2012 to 2022. As a result, it became evident that the humanization of childbirth is very current and still occurs as a reaction to several procedures performed without indication, requiring efforts to all the subjects involved, seeking to guarantee the woman quality and comprehensive care, which requires from all the actors involved with health care efforts to abolish aggressive behavior. It was concluded that the movement for the humanization of childbirth shows that the issue of birth is also the responsibility of the government and, given the current problems such as those related to the infrastructure weaknesses of the health network in Brazil, it is also configured as a health issue public.
This study aimed to evaluate the interplay among single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the encoding genes BMP2, BMP4, SMAD6, and RUNX2 in persistent apical periodontitis (PAP).
In this ...multicentric study, 272 patients diagnosed with pulp necrosis with apical periodontitis before root canal therapy who attended regular follow-up visits for at least 1 year were screened. Periapical radiographs and clinical aspects were evaluated, and the participants were classified as PAP (n = 110) or repaired (n = 162). Genomic DNA was used for the genotyping of the following SNPs: rs1005464 and rs235768 in bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2), rs17563 in bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4), rs2119261 and rs3934908 in SMAD family member 6 (SMAD6), and rs59983488 and rs1200425 in runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2). The chi-square test was used to compare genotype distributions between groups. The multifactor dimensionality reduction method was applied to identify SNP-SNP interactions. The alpha for all the analysis was 5%.
The multifactor dimensionality reduction suggested the rs235768 in BMP2 and rs59983488 in RUNX2 as the best SNP-SNP interaction model (cross-validation = 10/10, testing balanced accuracy = 0.584, P = .026) followed by rs17563 in BMP4 and rs2119261 in SMAD6 (cross validation = 10/10, testing balanced accuracy = 0.580, P = .031). In the rs235768 in BMP2 and rs59983488 in RUNX2 model, the high-risk genotype was TT + TT (odds ratio = 4.36; 95% confidence interval, 0.44–42.1). In model rs17563 in BMP4 and rs2119261 in SMAD6, GG + TT (odds ratio = 2.63; 95% confidence interval, 0.71–11.9) was the high-risk genotype.
The interactions between rs235768 in BMP2 and rs59983488 in RUNX2 and between rs17563 in BMP4 and rs2119261 in SMAD6 are associated with PAP, suggesting that an interplay of these SNPs is involved in the higher risk of developing PAP.
Surgical wound infection is a significant complication in patients undergoing pediatric cardiac surgery, which can compromise the postoperative recovery process and increase morbidity. Several risk ...factors are associated with this condition, including patient characteristics, type of surgical procedure, hospital environment, and postoperative care practices. Understanding these factors is crucial to developing effective prevention strategies and optimizing clinical outcomes in this vulnerable population. Objective: To analyze and synthesize the available evidence on the risk factors for surgical wound infection in patients undergoing pediatric cardiac surgery. The aim is to identify patterns and gaps in the literature, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the elements that influence the occurrence of this specific complication. Methodology: The review was conducted following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. The PubMed, Scielo and Web of Science databases were consulted to identify studies published in the last 10 years, using the descriptors "pediatric heart surgery", "operative wound infection", "risk factors", "children" and "prevention ". Three inclusion criteria were established, considering original studies that addressed risk factors in pediatric cardiac surgery, while three exclusion criteria were applied to filter articles that did not meet the specific objectives of the review. Results: Results revealed a variety of risk factors, including patient age, length of surgery, presence of comorbidities, and infection control practices. The review highlighted the importance of specific preventive strategies for the pediatric population undergoing cardiac procedures. Conclusion: This systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of risk factors for surgical wound infection in pediatric cardiac surgery, emphasizing the need for personalized prevention approaches. The conclusions highlight the importance of targeting preventive interventions, adapting them to the unique characteristics of this population, aiming to improve clinical results and reduce the incidence of postoperative infections.
