This study, which is basically exploratory and descriptive in nature, focuses on several aspects of the homosexual identity. Interpersonal relationships among homosexuals such as the need for body ...contact is also a focus of this study. Homosexuals from two cities in Georgia — Atlanta and LaGrange — participated in this research. After agreeing to be interviewed, the participants were asked the questions on the Body Contact Questionnaire - Gay Form, which contained approximately 102 variables relating to sexuality, body contact and social background. As a result of this study, it was concluded that religion is an important factor in the lives of most homosexuals.. This study does not illustrate any clear support for the hypothesis that socio-economic status has any bearing on the formation of a gay identity. Nonetheless, this study does illustrate some family influence, especially mother-child relationships. Finally, due to the malfunction of computers in the computer center, the hypothesis stating the higher the degree of homosexuality, the more intense is the need for body contact, could not be tested by my deadline.

The Supreme Court of the US has observed that "in constitutional adjudication, as in the common law, rules of law often develop incrementally as earlier decisions are applied to new factual ...situations." The same comment accurately describes the Federal Circuit's government contracts decisions from this past year; with (arguably) limited exception, the decisions discussed below reflect incremental development of the law, rather than any sea changes. Two exceptions to that generalization -- Minesen Co v. McHugh2 and Scott Timber Co v. US -- both engendered significant dissenting opinions, suggesting that the issues addressed therein may well be the subject of a future en banc case. In the remaining cases, however, the Federal Circuit does not appear to have broken radical new ground, but rather relied upon well-established precedent to resolve the new conflicts before the court. Each of these cases represents a valuable contribution to the government contracts field and warrants careful, if not equal, attention.
Individual fitness consequences of natal dispersal decisions have rarely been measured, and as a result natal dispersal is poorly understood. I studied habitat selection, movement, and settling ...behavior in desert isopods, Hemilepistus reaumuri, semelparous monogamous crustaceans whose young emerge from their natal burrows each Spring and travel long distances before settling. I examined movement and settling patterns in a long, enclosed corridor. Distance distributions differed between traveling isopods, settlers and settlers who successfully reproduced. Large males take longer to settle and are less likely to initiate burrows than small males, but large females take less time to settle and are more likely to initiate burrows than small females. Isopods in the corridor traveled at higher speeds than free ranging individuals. In a study of habitat selection isopods responded positively to previously successful burrows, consistently correlated with family survival for settlers in new burrows, but responded more positively to shrub density, sometimes negatively correlated with family survival. Density dependence was positive or negative in different years. Though isopods did not respond to natural variation in soil moisture, they settled more densely in irrigated plots. Isopods used previous experience to adjust their settling decisions, and I developed a dynamic model using Bayesian updating to show how experience affects individual fitness and population dispersal patterns. I measured costs of dispersal in terms of survival, physiological condition, time in season of burrow initiation, and time spent before settling. I found significant daily mortality and some water loss in traveling isopods, but no effect of time of initiation and a positive effect of time before settling on probability of successful reproduction. Apparently high mortality costs, compared with isopods’ limited ability to select habitat, suggest that habitat selection may not drive their settling decisions. The probability of successful reproduction is much higher in reused than in new burrows, and isopods respond strongly to artificial burrow holes, settling at densities over 10 times normal in plots with artificial holes added. This suggests that colonization of previously successful burrows may be the primary goal of ranging desert isopods.
The traditional Low Vision Aid service using Hospital Eye Service Prescription forms is expensive and often associated with poor patient satisfaction as found in the studies by Mcllwaine, Bell and ...Dutton (1991) and by Humphrey and Thompson (1986). We audited this service in a district general hospital. Subsequently a more integrated "In House" Low Vision Aid clinic was established. The new service was re-audited to compare costs and also to look at patient satisfaction.
The first audit composed a retrospective analysis of over two years of Hospital Eye Service Prescription forms (495 forms) which were traced through the optometrists/opticians and the Health Authority's finance department. In the second audit a retrospective analysis, of the records of 102 patients and a telephone survey were undertaken. In the first audit the average cost per patient receiving Low Vision Aids was £107.43; in the second this figure was £47.83 suggesting the integrated Low Vision Aid clinic is more cost-effective. We also obtained a patient satisfaction rate of 76%.
