International student mobility and graduate employability are interdependently related as two key objectives of the Bologna Process. Although studies widely acknowledge that student mobility enhances ...the employability of international graduates, in particular cases there remain factors that may pose challenges that will be difficult to overcome. In this article, the authors consider the case of foreign (Italian) physiotherapy graduates who cannot acquire a professional qualification in the Republic of Slovenia which they can take back to their own country because of the legislative stipulation regarding a knowledge of the Slovene language for professional examination purposes. The authors begin by discussing student mobility policies and practices in Slovenian higher education. They then first address the (improper) implementation of Directive 55/2013/EU (concerning the recognition of professional qualifications in European Union Member States) in the national legislation and subsequently discuss the broader and related issue of the language of instruction in Slovenian higher education. In this context, they reflect on a present reality of the European Higher Education Area which stems from inconsistent national legislative efforts. Methodologically, the research is based primarily on the analysis of various documentary sources supported by quantitative and qualitative evidence.
The introduction of non-native organisms into new areas may pose major threats to natural ecosystems. Therefore, continuous and careful national surveys for the interception of invasive non-native ...species are necessary. During the national survey of quarantine species in 2023, two new non-native ambrosia beetles, Anisandrus maiche (Kurentzov) and Xylosandrus compactus (Eichhoff), were recorded in Slovenia. Anisandrus maiche was recorded in three locations in the eastern part of Slovenia, with a total of 386 individuals. Three individuals of Xylosandrus compactus were collected in one location near the port of Koper. We discuss the possible pathways of introduction and dispersal.

A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity ...and 10 TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. This Review summarises the status and the recent advances on muon colliders design, physics and detector studies. The aim is to provide a global perspective of the field and to outline directions for future work.
To identify clinical and nonclinical factors associated with time from epilepsy onset to surgical evaluation and treatment among a cohort of children having epilepsy surgery.
Data were abstracted ...from records of 430 children (younger than 18 years) who had epilepsy neurosurgery at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1986 to 2010. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze unique associations of clinical severity, pre-referral brain MRI, and sociodemographic characteristics with time to surgery.
Shorter time to surgery was associated with active (hazard ratio HR 5.67, 95% confidence interval CI 3.74-8.70) and successfully treated infantile spasms (HR 2.20, 95% CI 1.63-2.96); daily or more seizures (HR 2.09, 95% CI 1.58-2.76); MRI before referral regardless of imaging findings (HR 1.95, 95% CI 1.47-2.58); private insurance (HR 1.54, 95% CI 1.14-2.09); and Hispanic ethnicity (HR 1.38, 95% CI 1.01-1.87). There were race/ethnicity by insurance interactions (log-rank p = 0.049) with shortest time to surgery for Hispanic children with private insurance.
Shorter intervals to surgical treatment were associated with greater epilepsy severity and insurance type, consistent with existing literature. However, associations of shorter times to treatment with having a brain MRI before referral and Hispanic ethnicity were unexpected and warrant further investigation. More knowledgeable referring providers and parents with greater help-seeking capability may explain obtaining an MRI before referral. Shorter intervals to surgery among Hispanic children may relate to the same factors yielding an increased volume of Hispanic children receiving surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles since 2000.
Objective
To compare healing of free, full‐thickness, meshed skin grafts under negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) with bolster dressings in dogs.
Study design
Randomized, controlled experimental ...study, paired design.
Animals
Dogs (n = 5)
Methods
Full‐thickness skin wounds (4 cm × 1.5 cm) were created bilaterally on the antebrachia of 5 dogs (n = 10). Excised skin was grafted to the contralateral limb. Grafts were randomized to NPWT or bolster dressings (control; CON). NPWT was applied continuously for 7 days. Grafts were evaluated on Days 2, 4, 7, 10, 14, and 17, biopsied on days 0, 4, 7, and 14, and had microbial culture on Day 7. Outcome variables were: time to first appearance of granulation tissue, percent graft necrosis, and percent open mesh. Significance was set at P < .05. Histologic findings, culture results, and graft appearance were reported.
Results
Granulation tissue appeared earlier in the NPWT grafts compared with CON grafts. Percent graft necrosis and remaining open mesh area were both greater in CON grafts compared with NPWT grafts at most time points. Histologic results showed no significant difference in all variables measured, and all cultures were negative.
Conclusions
Variables of graft acceptance were superior when NPWT was used in the first week post‐grafting. Fibroplasia was enhanced, open meshes closed more rapidly and less graft necrosis occurred with NPWT application. More preclinical studies are required to evaluate histologic differences.
