Structured data representing entity descriptions often lacks precise type information. That is, it is not known to which type an entity belongs to, or the type is too general to be useful. In this ...work, we propose to deal with this novel problem of inferring the type semantics of structured data, called typification. We formulate it as a clustering problem and discuss the features needed to obtain several solutions based on existing clustering solutions. Because schema features perform best, but are not abundantly available, we propose an approach to automatically derive them from data. Optimized for the use of schema features, we present TYPifier, a novel clustering algorithm that in experiments, yields better typification results than the baseline clustering solutions.
Currently, clinical information is stored in all kinds of proprietary formats through a multitude of medical information systems available on the market. This results in a severe interoperability ...problem in sharing electronic healthcare records. To address this problem, an industry initiative, called "Integrating Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)" has specified the "Cross Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS)" Profile to store healthcare documents in an ebXML registry/ repository to facilitate their sharing. Through a separate effort, IHE has also defined interdepartmental Workflow Profiles to identify the transactions required to integrate information flow among several information systems. Although the clinical documents stored in XDS registries are obtained as a result of executing these workflows, IHE has not yet specified collaborative healthcare processes for the XDS. Hence, there is no way to track the workflows in XDS and the clinical documents produced through the workflows are manually inserted into the registry/ repository. Given that IHE XDS is using the ebXML architecture, the most natural way to integrate IHE Workflow Profiles to IHE XDS is using ebXML Business Processes (ebBP). In this paper, we describe the implementation of an enhanced IHE architecture demonstrating how ebXML Business Processes, IHE Workflow Profiles and the IHE XDS architecture can all be integrated to provide collaborative business process support in the healthcare domain.
Business services are complex entities that encompass descriptions about different aspects including business processes and user interfaces. Typically, the modeling of business services results on ...several correlated models. On the one hand, there is the need to keep these models apart in order to attain the levels of abstractions needed to model different aspects of a service. On the other hand, it is important to maintain the consistency and integrity of models. In this paper, we show how to maintain the consistency and integrity of models and present a use case for the integration of user interface design and business process models.
The acute toxicity of carbaryl, methiocarb and carbosulfan to juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss; 1.92 ± 0.5 g) and guppies (Poecilia reticulata; 0.45 ± 0.04 g) was evaluated in 96-h ...toxicity tests under static conditions. Concentrations in the toxicity test ranged from 0.85 to 8.5 mg/l for carbaryl, from 0.7 to 28.0 mg/l for methiocarb, and from 0.031 to 12.5 mg/l for carbosulfan. Carbaryl and methiocarb were more toxic to rainbow trout than to guppies. However, compared with rainbow trout, guppies were more sensitive to carbosulfan. The incidence of mortality in fish increased significantly (P<0.05) with increasing pesticide concentrations. The time required to kill 50% (LT50) of the rainbow trout at the lowest concentrations of carbaryl, methiocarb, and carbosulfan was 51 h 12 min, 74 h 35 min, and 107 h 57 min, respectively. As insecticide concentrations were increased, LT50 values decreased (P<0.05).
Service concept is evolving as a broad idea recurrently discussed in recent years as it originates from many disciplines such as marketing, operations and computer science. Despite this ...interdisciplinary nature of service concept, existing methodologies for building service-oriented systems provide limited support to include a complete coverage of various engineering phases for a unified development and are therefore not directly applicable to service-oriented architectures. In particular, the design of coordination mechanisms between service providers and customers as well as the design of a common vocabulary in an inter-organizational setting is not adequately addressed. To face these shortcomings, in this position paper, we present an interdisciplinary approach integrating recently proposed methodologies into one coherent engineering methodology. The methodology aims to build a system that extends the basic find-bind-execute paradigm of Web services on an electronic market platform.
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is one the most promising organic phase change materials (PCMs) due to good latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) characteristics. However, leakage issue in melting ...state and low thermal conductivity restrict its further real applications. In order to eliminate these disadvantages as well as increasing its incorporation ratio, polyethylene glycol (PEG600) was impregnated with raw diatomite (RD)/carbon nanotubes(CNTs) pre-composites. Without exhibiting melt leakage, PEG was successfully confined as 42.8, 44.5 and 51.7 wt% in the novel shape-stabilized composite phase change materials (S-SCPCMs) including 0.57, 1.70 and 2.50 wt% CNTs while it was absorbed by RD as 41.0 wt%. The chemical and morphological characterizations of the produced S-SCPCMs were made by FT-IR and SEM techniques. The DSC analysis showed that the S-SCPCMs had melting temperatures in the range of about 7–8°C and latent heat capacity between 53.8 and 62.9 J/g. Moreover, compared to the RD/PEG composite, the thermal conductivities of RD/CNTs/PEG composites were enhanced between 73% and 93% as well as the latent heat capacity of them was increased in the range of 5–31%. The melting times and total heating times of the S-SCPCMs were drastically shortened depending on the improvement in thermal conductivity of them. Thermal cycling test and TGA results demonstrated that the S-SCPCMs had commendable long-term chemical stability, LHTES reliability and thermal durability. Consequently, the loading of CNTs to RD/PEG composite provided beneficial outcomes such as increasing impregnation ratio with no liquid leakage, reducing heat storing/releasing periods depending on enhanced thermal conductivity, without damaging chemical stability and thermal durability. In view of these advantageous properties, the S-SCPCMs can be incorporated with ordinary structural elements to generate various building sections with solar energy harvesting/releasing capability. Such combinations can be also evaluated for passive solar cooling purposes in radiant floor heating systems, insulation and ceiling panels or walls depending on the climatic circumstances.
Abstract
Coherent imaging techniques provide an unparalleled multi-scale view of materials across scientific and technological fields, from structural materials to quantum devices, from integrated ...circuits to biological cells. Driven by the construction of brighter sources and high-rate detectors, coherent imaging methods like ptychography are poised to revolutionize nanoscale materials characterization. However, these advancements are accompanied by significant increase in data and compute needs, which precludes real-time imaging, feedback and decision-making capabilities with conventional approaches. Here, we demonstrate a workflow that leverages artificial intelligence at the edge and high-performance computing to enable real-time inversion on X-ray ptychography data streamed directly from a detector at up to 2 kHz. The proposed AI-enabled workflow eliminates the oversampling constraints, allowing low-dose imaging using orders of magnitude less data than required by traditional methods.
The cause of chronic pelvic pain in interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) remains unclear; autoimmunity is a possible etiology. We have recently shown that injection of a single ...immunogenic peptide of uroplakin 3A (UPK3A 65-84) induces experimental autoimmune cystitis (EAC) in female BALB/cJ mice that is unique among experimental models in accurately reflecting both the urinary symptoms and pelvic pain of IC/PBS. The aim of this project was to identify the roles of mast cells and mast cell chemoattractant/activator monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2) in the allodynia in this model. We immunized 6- to 8-wk-old female BALB/cJ mice with UPK3A 65-84 peptide and, 5-40 days later, observed increased responses to stimulation of the suprapubic abdominal and hindpaw surfaces with von Frey monofilaments compared with mice injected with adjuvant alone. Suprapubic and hindpaw tactile allodynia responses by EAC mice were blocked by instillation of lidocaine into the bladder but not by lidocaine in the uterus, confirming the bladder as the source of the hypersensitivity. Markedly increased numbers of activated mast cells and expression of CCL2 were found in the bladder after immunization with UPK3A 65-84. Hypersensitive responses were inhibited by mast cell stabilizer cromolyn sodium and antagonists of histamine receptors 1 and 2. Furthermore, BALB/cJ mice with deletion of the Ccl2 or chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 2 gene exhibited markedly reduced allodynia and accumulation of mast cells after UPK3A 65-84 immunization. These results show that UPK3A 65-84 immunization causes chronic visceral allodynia and suggest that it is mediated by CCL2-driven mast cell accumulation in the bladder.
There are multiple approaches to the management of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS); and lately the data suggesting the ability of acupuncture treatment to decrease pain, ...positively impact quality of life and potentially modulate inflammation has suggested it as a potential therapeutic option for men with CP/CPPS. We conducted this study to determine whether acupuncture is really an effective therapeutic modality for CP/CPPS in terms of >50% decrease in total National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) score from baseline compared with sham.
One hundred patients with CP/CPPS (category III B) in an outpatient urology clinic were randomized to receive acupuncture at either seven acupoints bilaterally or sham points adjacent to these points. NIH-CPSI was completed by each patient before and 6, 8, 16, 24 weeks after the treatment. Mean values of total CPSI score and subscores after the treatment and on follow-up following the treatment were compared.
Of the acupuncture participants, 92% were NIH-CPSI responders (>50% decrease in total NIH-CPSI score from baseline) compared with 48% of sham participants, 8 weeks after the end of the therapy. Both groups experienced significant decrease in CPSI subscores throughout the whole follow-up period; however, the decline remained significantly greater in the active acupuncture group as compared with the sham group.
Our results show that the use of acupuncture in treatment of men with CP/CPPS symptoms resulted in a significant decrease in total NIH-CPSI scores.
