The sickle cell disease (SCD) population has been considered particularly vulnerable to viral pandemics since the emergence of H1N1 in 2009. In this sense, the advance of the COVID-19 pandemic from ...2020 has brought this group of patients to the center of concern. However, scientific knowledge about the susceptibility of patients with SCD to a severe COVID-19 pandemic is still insufficient, and efforts to establish a general profile of the disease in these patients, remain inadequate. The present study, therefore, sought to characterize the case fatality rate and severity of COVID-19 in patients with SCD throughout the world. A systematic review of Pubmed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Virtual Health Library databases through December 2021 was then performed. Subsequently, the primary and secondary outcomes were used in the meta-analysis in RStudio® software. Seventy-two studies were included with 6,011 SCD patients confirmed to have SARS-CoV-2 infection between mid-2020 and early 2022. The mean age of patients was 27 years. During this period, 218 deaths caused by COVID-19 were reported in the studied population, corresponding to an overall case fatality rate of 3%. In addition, 10% of patients with SCD were admitted to the ICU after complications caused by COVID-19, and 4% of them required invasive ventilatory support. In conclusion, the high fatality rate, intensive care unit admission and need for mechanical ventilation due to COVID-19 in young patients with SCD indicate that this population is at high risk for severe disease progression.
This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out through a literature review. The aim of the study was to address the use of educational technologies in self-care guidance for ...ostomy patients. As a method, twelve scientific articles were used, published between 2016 and 2021 on scientific websites and platforms. The results showed that an educational technology aimed at guiding people with an ostomy is important due to the changes that occur after the ostomy and that the use of technologies during educational actions is seen as a tool that complements the process of knowledge construction for care and o taking care of oneself, qualifying interventions in health practice with people with stoma and their families. Health professionals play the role of educators and must participate in the process of elaboration, development and evaluation of the need to implement educational technologies with ostomy patients and their families.
Burnout Syndrome consists of a disease, also known as professional burnout syndrome, characterized by a process based on emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low professional achievement, ...defined as a chronic psychological phenomenon that occurs in people whose work involves relationships of intense attention and common to people who need assistance and care. The objective was to demonstrate the importance of emotional intelligence as a means of preventing Burnout Syndrome. Methodologically, this is a bibliographical, descriptive and exploratory review of works published between 2015 and 2022, through consultations of scientific articles in the Virtual Health Library network, carried out between July and October 2022. It is possible to verify that we live in an immediatist era, which has been directly reflected in professional practice, mainly among people who occupy leadership positions, and may contribute to the compromise of the mental health of such professionals. It is essential for workers to reflect until what moment it is worth dedicating all their time to their professional life, in this sense, the need for a skill called self-management is latent, which can contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of workers. It was concluded that the main problems arising from mental exhaustion can cause irreversible harm to an individual's health, therefore, the appearance of the syndrome must be avoided from the first signs and symptoms; the most successful professionals are not necessarily those with the highest intelligence, but those with better emotional control, which means they have greater emotional intelligence. The ability of professional self-management is interpreted as breaking the alienation of work by emphasizing that overcoming the division of intellectual and manual labor is the basis for sustaining a society divided into classes and an oppressive structure.
