leksem more. Korpus obuhvaća ukupno 29 poslovica iz različitih izvora,
podijeljenih u četiri tematske grupe. Ponuđena su pojašnjenja njihova ...značenja,
hrvatski ekvivalenti, gdje je to bilo moguće, te stilska analiza. Doprinos ovog
Leksem more punoznačnica
The paper analyses twenty-nine Italian proverbs containing
lexeme sea which are found in dictionaries and on websites. Their semantic
analysis and that of their lexical structures as well as Croatian equivalents,
if possible, are presented. This paper, unlike the others so far, does not deal
with the contrastive analysis since its main concern is the semantic field of
the word “sea” as used in Italian proverbs. It covers several meanings, from
the literal as the vast area of salty water to those metaphorical as a long
distance, large quantity, or even unpredictability. Distinguishing the meaning
of a lexeme and the range of its semantic field is important for the proper
use. Therefore, proverbs, as a meaningful literary genre, enhance both language
and cultural knowledge.
Proverbs are an effective rhetorical means of transmitting accumulated knowledge and experiences in a metaphorical, fixed, and memorable form. However, they are rarely used as educational tools in ...foreign language teaching due to the complexity in defining and analyzing the structure of proverbs. This often discourages teachers and prevents their didactic exploitation as a source of teaching activities. This paper proposes different uses of proverbs in teaching Italian as a foreign language in relation appointed to different phases of the teaching unit. By inserting the repertoire of proverbs gradually with the advancement of knowledge, the learners’ vocabulary is enriched and in such a way they can interpret the an interlocutors’ implicit intentions, to negotiate the implied and ambiguous meanings and to discover cultural and spatio-temporal references along with the values of the target culture. Finally, the mastery of proverbs in a foreign language is a valid and relevant indicator of intercultural competence which is an integral part of communicative competence.

Psychotypology is one of the conditions for the occurrence of crosslinguistic influences. Following empirical findings, we conducted a study to establish the presence and the effect of psychotypology ...on the language transfer between Italian, as a foreign language, and the local speech of Split, as a variant of learners’ L1. Two target groups with no prior knowledge of Italian were questioned: one hundred students regularly in contact with the speech of Split and another hundred with no competence and no contact with it. The two groups took the Yes/No Vocabulary test. The aim was to reveal the initial comprehension of Italian vocabulary. Through the questionnaire, we gained insight into the intuitive behaviour of both groups of participants regarding the meaning of given Italian words, distance perceived, and subjective perception of the relationship between the Italian language and the speech of Split. The results of the two groups were compared using the quantitative test data. In addition, the relationship between psychotypology and a successful test outcome was thoroughly examined, according to the qualitative data. The results demonstrated an extremely high percentage of informants in both groups being aware of similarities between the two idioms at the lexical level. The findings indicated that participants who perceived the similarities as significant performed better on the test. The analysis of results showed that the experimental group found the Italian language easily comprehensible, whereas the control group defined it as somewhat demanding. Significantly better vocabulary test results of the experimental group confirmed that participant’s attitude is essential to achieve language transfer.

Comic Fable of Venice might seem like a simple story of Corto Maltese`s adventure in search of the lost emerald around this beautiful city. However, the analysis of symbols and characters in drawings ...and text leads to the conclusion that it is, actually, the story of the Mediterranean as an area where different cultures have not only been geographically but also culturally linked for centuries. Being close to each other, these cultures associate and change, influencing one another, but still managing to keep the authenticity. Although they are the heritage of the whole Mediterranean, the symbols, legends, and characters mentioned in this comic are all placed in Venice, so that within just one walk around the city, the author can easily help the reader understand the history of the whole area. This paper aims at proving that Pratt does not allow just simple, passive reading, but requires a reader to explore actively the topics mentioned in the Fable.
