Anetoderma is a rare elastolytic disorder included within the group of cutaneous atrophies. Its pathogenesis is not yet clearly established, but immunological mechanisms could play an important role ...in dermal elastolysis. It has been associated with different autoantibodies and autoimmune disorders. We present a case of anetoderma in a systemic lupus erythematosus patient with anti-proliferating-cell-nuclear-antigen and antiphospholipid antibodies, highlighting the peculiarities of such an association.
Steatocystoma multiplex is characterized by the development of numerous steatocystomas. The condition has occasionally been related to congenital bilateral preauricular sinuses. Herein, we present ...the third case of such an association, a 34‐year‐old male who was born with bilateral preauricular sinuses that were surgically repaired. When he was 14 years old, he presented with multiple steatocystomas on his forehead and temples, one of which was biopsied. There was no family history of the condition.
"Mechanic's hands" are a characteristic cutaneous sign of idiopathic inflammatory myositis. We describe the case of a 61-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with idiopathic polymyositis and ...non-specific interstitial lung disease in 1999, and three years later developed scaly, fissured hyperkeratotic lesions on the lateral and palmar surfaces of the first three fingers of both hands, with little pruritus. The presence of the anti-Jo-1 antisynthetase antibody in the patient's serum, the finding of skin lesions characteristic of "mechanic's hands" and the patient's other systemic clinical manifestations made it possible to establish the diagnosis of "antisynthetase syndrome."

Nevus of Ota is a benign pigmentary disorder that involves the skin innervated by the first and second branches of the trigeminal nerve. It is a dermal melanocytosis frequent in Oriental persons but ...uncommon in white persons. We report a case of nevus of Ota in a white woman emphasizing the wide extension of the pigmentation and its association with ipsilateral sensorineural hypoacusia. (J Am Acad Dermatol 2002;47:S257-9.)
Linear epidermal nevi are believed to be caused by an autosomal dominant lethal mutation that can only be expressed by mosaicism. Becker's nevus can be explained by paradominant inheritance which is ...only manifested clinically by an acquired loss of heterozygosity. We present the case of a 16-year-old female with an epidermal nevus located on the left side of the neck, and also a Becker's nevus located on the ipsilateral shoulder. It is interesting to speculate that this supposed double mosaicism could be another example of "twin spotting" or non-allelic didymosis, although the possibility that this is a chance association cannot be ruled out, as the lesions are not closely associated.
Objective. To demonstrate our experience in the treatment of head and neck cutaneous melanoma and the regional lymph nodes staging, by the sentinel lymph nodes biopsy technique. Methods. We analyze ...the cases of head and neck cutaneous melanoma treated during the last 3 years. Patients with cervical and/or facial metastases were treated by neck dissection plus parotidectomy if peripheral or intra-parotid nodes were affected. In the patients with primary tumours, a preoperatory biopsy and a whole body extension study were performed. After that, the cervical and facial sentinel lymph nodes and the primary tumour were resected. The defects created were reconstructed by means of local or regional cutaneous flaps. Results. Cutaneous melanoma associates with an excellent long-term prognosis when is detected and treated in a precocious stage. The cervical and facial sentinel lymph nodes biopsy technique is feasible in head and neck cutaneous melanomas. Conclusion. Sentinel node biopsy technique is considered the elective procedure for head and neck cutaneous melanoma regional staging. It improves the effectiveness and sensibility of the histopathologic study, due to the capacity to select the cervical and facial lymphatic nodes with more probability of have metastases.
