In this study the amount of “informal” citations (i.e. those mentioning only author names or their initials instead of the complete references) in comparison to the “formal” (full reference based) ...citations is analyzed using some pioneers of chemistry and physics as examples. The data reveal that the formal citations often measure only a small fraction of the overall impact of seminal publications. Furthermore, informal citations are mainly given instead of (and not in addition to) formal citations. As a major consequence, the overall impact of pioneering articles and researchers cannot be entirely determined by merely counting the full reference based citations.
At the end of May 2018, just before the Quebec National Assembly rose for the summer break and with parties preparing for an election campaign beginning at the end of August, the ruling Liberal party ...passed Bill 176 to reform the labor standards act. In Quebec, as across Canada, labor standards for most jobs are under provincial jurisdiction. These standards are usually known as employment standards because they cover non-unionized workers. Some of the changes addressed in this legislation include the reconciliation of work and family life, including expansion of paid sick days. Within the reform, several changes were introduced that will improve the conditions faced by some of the most precarious workers, who are employed through placement agencies. This article will discuss these reforms and the related campaign led by the Immigrant Workers Centre (IWC) in Montreal. The process of organizing will be described and some of the implications of the new legislation, although as of this writing, the administrative regulations associated with the legislation have not been introduced.
In this paper, the Jacobian analysis of the ALICE exoskeleton rehabilitation Robot is presented. The Jacobian matrix is described and the workspace is determined. Then, the Yoshikawa and Condition ...Index are studied to analyze the performance of the manipulator. MAT LAB as programming tool and testing platform is used.
In this paper, a complete kinematics analysis of the ALICE (Assistive Lower lImb Controlled Exoskeleton) Re- habilitation Robot is performed. First the ALICE exoskeleton rehabilitation robot is ...presented, including its mechanical design. Then, the main features of commercial lower limb exoskeleton robots is discussed. Next, the forward kinematics using the Screw theory is presented, finally the inverse kinematics solution using a geometrical approach is presented. MATLAB ® as programming tool and testing platform is used.
The present theoretical and experimental knowledge concerning the dependence of the dielectric constant and the refractive index on pressure and temperature is reviewed.
In this article, the proceedings of the International Conferences on Defects in Semiconductors (ICDS) have been analyzed by bibliometric methods. The papers of these conferences have been published ...as articles in regular journals or special proceedings journals and in books with diverse publishers. The conference name/title changed several times. Many of the proceedings did not appear in the so-called “source journals” covered by the Thomson/ISI citation databases, in particular by the Science Citation Index (SCI). But the number of citations within these source journals can be determined using the Cited Reference Search mode under the Web of Science (WoS) and the SCI offered by the host STN International. The search functions of both systems were needed to select the papers published as different document types and to cover the full time span of the series. The most cited ICDS papers were identified, and the overall numbers of citations as well as the time-dependent impact of these papers, of single conferences, and of the complete series, was established. The complete of citing papers was analyzed with respect to the countries of the citing authors, the citing journals, and the ISI subject categories.
This paper develops a general frame to link Canadian migration policies with the racism and racialization in the Canadian society. It also explores the role of the Temporary Work and Recruitment Agencies (TWRAs) to manage immigrant and migrant labour in Montreal. The conclusions aims to synthetize and relate previous sections around the role of the TWRAs inside the complex of critical knowledge of economic, migration, work, human and social rights, racism and racialization in Canada.
