Eplingiella fruticosa (Lamiaceae), formally known as Hyptis fruticosa, is an important aromatic medicinal herb used in folk medicine in northeastern Brazil. We aimed to evaluate the anti-hyperalgesic ...effect of essential oil obtained from E. fruticosa (HypEO) complexed with βCD (HypEO-βCD) in a chronic widespread non-inflammatory muscle pain animal model (a mice fibromyalgia-like model, FM). The HypEO was extracted by hydro distillation and its chemical composition was determined by GC-MS/FID. Moreover, Fos protein expression in the spinal cord was assessed by immunofluorescence. (E)-caryophyllene, bicyclogermacrene, 1,8-cineole, α-pinene, β-pinene and 21 other compounds were identified in the HypEO. The treatment with HypEO-βCD produced a longer-lasting anti-hyperalgesic effect compared to HypEO, without alterations in motor coordination or myorelaxant effects. Moreover, HypEO and HypEO-βCD produced a significant anti-hyperalgesic effect over 7 consecutive treatment days. Immunofluorescence assay demonstrated a decrease in Fos protein expression in the spinal cord (p < 0.001). We demonstrated that the anti-hyperalgesic effect produced by HypEO was improved after complexation with β-CD and this seems to be related to the central pain-inhibitory pathway, suggesting the possible use of E. fruticosa for chronic pain management.

•GC-MS/FID analysis identified twenty-six (26) compounds in E. fruticosa leaves.•HypEO-βCD and HypEO produced an anti-hyperalgesic profile on chronic pain.•Fos protein expression in the spinal cord also prove the mechanism of the EOs.

The Higgs field of the Standard Model theory for elementary particles and interactions can be realized as a composite state from an underlying strong sector. Such hypothesis is very attractive as an ultraviolet completion of the Standard Model since it solves the hierarchy and avoids naturalness problems. The standard perturbative methods cannot be used in the context of strongly interacting theories, however thyose can be broadly describes in terms of extra dimensional models of gravity. We focus on the case of one additional Warped compact Extra Dimension (WED). The generic signatures of this scenario are the manifestation of heavy gravity particles, associated with the five dimensional metric, that couples with the Standard Model matter leading to direct collider signatures. The heavy gravity particles couples to the Higgs sector. The Higgs discovery had oponed a new investigation channel to LHC direct detection that is the di-higgs final state. We use Monte Carlo techniques to study the analysis strategies that would lead to a best recognition of new resonances decaying to a pair of higgses in hadron colliders, that can be interprets as the gravity particles. We finally present resonance searches performed with data taken by the CMS experiment on the 8 TeV LHC run. The results are interpreted as the gravity particles signatures in the WED context

Background and objectives: Modern society food habits have caused an increase in the incidence of non communicable chronic diseases (NCD). Although these food habits present diversity, they are ...mostly associated with obesiogenic metabolic disorders. Growing consumption of industrialized foods with high glycemic index and caloric density has increased the incidence of obesity-related diseases, commonly a result of metabolic disorders induced by diet. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate the effect of diet on the parameters involved in the genesis of these complex sets of metabolic alterations. In this study an experimental diet was produced and analyzed, evaluating its effect on markers of metabolic disorders. Methods: Two groups of adult male Wistar rats (n = 5 for each group) were feed with a standard or experimental diet for 17 weeks. Centesimal composition, glycemic index and glycemic load were determined for the experimental diet. Animals were evaluated during the experiment using abdominal perimeter and Lee index. At the end of the experiment, biochemical metabolic analysis and PPARγ mRNA expression in retroperitoenal and gonadal adipose tissue were performed. Results: The experimental diet group presented a high glycemic index and glycemic load, increasing Lee index and abdominal perimeter of animals from the 6th week of experiment. Fasting glycaemia, triglycerides, VLDL-C, retroperitoenal and gonadal adipose tissue PPARγ expression were significantly increased in the experimental diet group in comparison to standard diet group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Thus, the results indicate that this diet represents a new model to induce obesity and metabolic disorders and might contribute for further studies in the field.
