We have measured the W-boson mass M(W) using data corresponding to 2.2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected in pp collisions at sqrts = 1.96 TeV with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab ...Tevatron collider. Samples consisting of 470,126 W → eν candidates and 624,708 W → μν candidates yield the measurement M(W) = 80,387 ± 12(stat.) ± 15(syst.) = 80,387 ± 19 MeV/c2. This is the most precise measurement of the W-boson mass to date and significantly exceeds the precision of all previous measurements combined.
Evidence is reported for a narrow structure near the $J/\psi\phi$ threshold in exclusive $B^+\to J/\psi\phi K^+$ decays produced in $\bar{p} p $ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96 \TeV$. A signal of ...$14\pm5$ events, with statistical significance in excess of 3.8 standard deviations, is observed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $2.7 \ifb$, collected by the CDF II detector. The mass and natural width of the structure are measured to be $4143.0\pm2.9(\mathrm{stat})\pm1.2(\mathrm{syst}) \MeVcc$ and $11.7^{+8.3}_{-5.0}(\mathrm{stat})\pm3.7(\mathrm{syst}) \MeVcc$.
The $^{1}H$($e,e^\prime K^+$)$\Lambda$ reaction was studied as a function of the Mandelstam variable $-t$ using data from the E01-004 (FPI-2) and E93-018 experiments that were carried out in Hall C ...at the 6 GeV Jefferson Lab. The cross section was fully separated into longitudinal and transverse components, and two interference terms at four-momentum transfers $Q^2$ of 1.00, 1.36 and 2.07 GeV$^2$. The kaon form factor was extracted from the longitudinal cross section using the Regge model by Vanderhaeghen, Guidal, and Laget. The results establish the method, previously used successfully for pion analyses, for extracting the kaon form factor. Data from 12 GeV Jefferson Lab experiments are expected to have sufficient precision to distinguish between theoretical predictions, for example recent perturbative QCD calculations with modern parton distribution amplitudes. The leading-twist behavior for light mesons is predicted to set in for values of $Q^2$ between 5-10 GeV$^2$, which makes data in the few GeV regime particularly interesting. The $Q^2$ dependence at fixed $x$ and $-t$ of the longitudinal cross section we extracted seems consistent with the QCD factorization prediction within the experimental uncertainty.
We present the final combination of CDF and D0 measurements of cross sections for single-top-quark production in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The data ...correspond to total integrated luminosities of up to 9.7 fb−1 per experiment. The t-channel cross section is measured to be σt=2.25+0.29−0.31 pb. We also present the combinations of the two-dimensional measurements of the s- vs. t-channel cross sections and of the s+t channel cross section measurement resulting in σs+t=3.30+0.52−0.40 pb, without assuming the standard-model value for the ratio σs/σt. The resulting value of the magnitude of the top-to-bottom quark coupling is |Vtb| = 1.02+0.06−0.05, corresponding to |Vtb|>0.92 at the 95% C.L.
We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase β(s) using the time evolution of B(s)(0)→J/ψ(→μ(+)μ(-))φ(→K(+)K(-)) decays in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange ...meson is identified at production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at √s=1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of β(s) and the B(s)(0) decay-width difference ΔΓ(s) and measure β(s)∈-π/2,-1.51∪-0.06,0.30∪1.26,π/2 at the 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model value of β(s), we also determine ΔΓ(s)=0.068±0.026(stat)±0.009(syst) ps(-1) and the mean B(s)(0) lifetime τ(s)=1.528±0.019(stat)±0.009(syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by other experiments.
We report the observation of the exclusive decay Bs0-->Ds-Ds+ at the 7.5 standard deviation level using 355 pb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector in pp collisions at sqrts=1.96 TeV at the ...Fermilab Tevatron. We measure the relative branching ratio B(Bs0-->Ds-Ds+)/B(B0-->D-Ds+)=1.44(-0.44)(+0.48). Using the world average value for B(B0-->D-Ds+), we find B(Bs0-->Ds-Ds+)=(9.4(-4.2)(+4.4))x10(-3). This provides a lower bound DeltaGammasCP/Gammas>or=2B(Bs0-->Ds-Ds+)>1.2x10(-2) at 95% C.L.
We report the observation of B{sub s}{sup 0}-B{sub s}{sup 0} oscillations from a time-dependent measurement of the B{sub s}{sup 0}-B{sub s}{sup 0} oscillation frequency {delta}m{sub s}. Using a data ...sample of 1 fb{sup -1} of pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we find signals of 5600 fully reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays, 3100 partially reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays, and 61 500 partially reconstructed semileptonic B{sub s} decays. We measure the probability as a function of proper decay time that the B{sub s} decays with the same, or opposite, flavor as the flavor at production, and we find a signal for B{sub s}{sup 0}-B{sub s}{sup 0} oscillations. The probability that random fluctuations could produce a comparable signal is 8x10{sup -8}, which exceeds 5{sigma} significance. We measure {delta}m{sub s}=17.77{+-}0.10(stat){+-}0.07(syst) ps{sup -1} and extract vertical bar V{sub td}/V{sub ts} vertical bar =0.2060{+-}0.0007({delta}m{sub s}){sub -0.0060}{sup +0.0081}({delta}m{sub d}+theor)
We report final measurements of direct CP-violating asymmetries in charmless decays of neutral bottom hadrons to pairs of charged hadrons with the upgraded Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. ...Using the complete √s=1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collisions data set, corresponding to 9.3 fb⁻¹ of integrated luminosity, we measure A(Λ(b)⁰→pπ⁻)=+0.06±0.07(stat)±0.03(syst) and A(Λ(b)⁰→pK⁻)=-0.10±0.08(stat)±0.04(syst), compatible with no asymmetry. In addition we measure the CP-violating asymmetries in B(s)⁰→K⁻π⁺ and B⁰→K⁺π⁻ decays to be A(B(s)⁰→K⁻π⁺)=+0.22±0.07(stat)±0.02(syst) and A(B⁰→K⁺π⁻)=-0.083±0.013(stat)±0.004(syst), respectively, which are significantly different from zero and consistent with current world averages.
We report an observation of new bottom baryons produced in pp collisions at the Tevatron. Using 1.1 fb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector, we observe four Lambda b 0 pi+/- resonances in the ...fully reconstructed decay mode Lambda b 0-->Lambda c + pi-, where Lambda c+-->pK* pi+. We interpret these states as the Sigma b(*)+/- baryons and measure the following masses: m Sigma b+=5807.8 -2.2 +2.0(stat.)+/-1.7(syst.) MeV/c2, m Sigma b- =5815.2+/-1.0(stat.)+/-1.7(syst.) MeV/c2, and m(Sigma b*)-m(Sigma b)=21.2-1.9 +2.0(stat.)-0.3+0.4(syst.) MeV/c2.
