This research was aimed to find out students' morphological errors in using word formation in writing an essay. Word formation that was found in the students' writing are derivation and inflection. ...The type of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The source of data was the English Department students of Universitas Putra Indonesia Yayasan Perguruan Tinggi Komputer ( UPI YPTK) Padang who were in the fourth semester that consist of 23 students. The data were gotten through writing test. The finding of this research showed that the students made morphological errors in using derivation and inflection in writing the essay. Errors in derivation were 10 data, while errors in inflection were 83 data. Based on those findings, the students still made errors in using word formation in their writing.
This research was aimed to analyze the types word formation and their processes which found in English articles of VOA News. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The method in ...collecting the data was by searching the data in VOA News related to the articles of education, health, and science and technology. The data that contained word formation were collected and classified them based on its categories, then analyzed them based on the processes of how the words are formed. The results of this research showed that there were six types of word formation found in the VOA News articles, they were derivation, compound, acronym, initialism, clipping/ abbreviation, and conversion. From those types, compound was the most common word formation found in the articles because it was the basic division in forming the words.
The use of Online translation (OT) for doing English assignments is now inevitable. Teachers neither can prevent their students to use OT nor can supervise it when all of the learning process has ...been running online from home to home. Therefore, both teachers and students should bring out the advantages of OT to improve English competence and to reduce the disadvantages of using OT. This study is aimed to investigate the students’ perspectives of using OT for doing English assignments and to describe the advantages and disadvantages of OT. The study is presented in descriptive qualitative design. The data collection instruments are questionnaires and open-ended questions. The participants are 198 students of Information system department, University of Putra Indonesia YPTK Padang. The findings of this study showed that for about 80% of English students depend their English assignments on OT. Based on the EFL students’ perspective, the advantages of using OT are time saver and instant results and the disadvantages of using OT are inaccuracy in the results relate to cultural context, idiom, sentences with metaphor and pragmatic aspects for learning the structure of English language. The study proposes some ideas for teachers to teach their students strategies and guidance for using OT properly and to avoid making mistakes. Abstak: Kemampuan berbahasa Inggris para pengurus kelurahan dan kecamatan di Padang Timur terbatas, terutama dalam percakapan sehari-hari. Hal ini membuat komunikasi dengan pihak asing menjadi sulit. ...Tujuan dari PKM ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan percakapan bahasa Inggris bagi para pengurus Kelurahan dan Kecamatan Padang Timur para camat Padang Timur. Pelatihan dan dukungan percakapan bahasa Inggris melalui lokakarya interaktif. Mitranya meliputi 30 pengelola kecamatan dan kelurahan di Padang Timur. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test. Keterampilan percakapan bahasa Inggris meningkat sebesar 80%, terbukti dengan adanya peningkatan rata-rata skor post-test dibandingkan pretest. Peserta juga mendapatkan kepercayaan diri dalam berkomunikasi sehari-hari dalam bahasa Inggris.Abstract: The English language skills of Kelurahan and Kecamatan administrators in East Padang are limited, especially in daily conversation. This makes communication with foreign parties difficult. The aim of this PKM is to improve the English conversation skills of East Padang sub-district and village administrators. English conversation training and support through interactive workshops. The partners included 30 sub-district and village managers in East Padang. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test. English conversation skills improved by 80%, as evidenced by an increase in the average posttest score compared to the pretest. Participants also gained confidence in communicating daily in English.

Unsur kebahasaan yang dimaksuddalam hal ini adalah tindak tutur yang terdapat pada akun instagram @tripsumbar dalammempromosikan objek wisata, khususnya di wilayah Sumatera Barat. Tujuan dari penelitian iniadalah (1) untuk mengetahui bentuk tindak tutur yang terdapat pada akun instagram @tripsumbardalam mempromosikan objek wisata Sumatera Barat, (2) menjelaskan fungsi tindak tutur tersebutserta makna yang tersirat di dalamnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif.Data penelitian berupa tuturan yang terdapat dalam promosi objek wisata Sumatera Barat padaakun instagram @tripsumbar yang difokuskan berdasarkan teori tindak tutur oleh Searle. Hasil daripenelitian ini adalah berupa tindak tutur asertif sebanyak 20 data, tindak tutur direktif sebanyak 4 data,tindak tutur komisif sebanyak 9 data, tindak tutur ekspresif sebanyak 21 data, dan tindak tuturdeklarasi sebanyak 4 data. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, bisa disimpulkan bahwa denganmenggunakan bentuk tuturan yang bagus dan menarik dalam mempromosikan objek wisataSumatera Barat, akan menarik minat masyarakat untuk berkunjung
English is one of the subjects that the students learn in the school. Although it has been studied since elementary school, English is still one of the subjects that are considered difficult and ...boring by the students, because English is not their mother tongue. Therefore, teachers in the schools must be creative in teaching English so that the students become interested in learning it. Especially for elementary students, the teachers can teach English by using playing tricks while learning so that it can trigger the students' enthusiasm to learn, so that learning English becomes something fun. One strategy that can be implemented is learning while playing by using Crossword Puzzles. This can add or improve the students' vocabulary in learning English. For this reason, this activity aims to train the students to learn English to be fun by using Crossword Puzzles. The output target of this activity is to help the students in growing their interest in learning English and to help them to improve their English vocabularies in a fun way.
