Macroalgae are a valuable source of highly bioactive primary and secondary metabolites that may have useful bioapplications. To investigate the nutritional and nonnutritional contents of ...underexploited edible seaweeds, proximate composition, including protein, fat, ash, vitamins A, C, and E, and niacin, as well as important phytochemicals, including polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, sterols, saponins, and coumarins, were screened from algal species using spectrophotometric methods. Ash content ranged from 3.15–25.23% for green seaweeds, 5–29.78% for brown algae, and 7–31.15% for red algae. Crude protein content ranged between 5 and 9.8% in Chlorophyta, 5 and 7.4% in Rhodophyta, and between 4.6 and 6.2% in Phaeophyceae. Crude carbohydrate contents ranged from 20 to 42% for the collected seaweeds, where green algae had the highest content (22.5–42%), followed by brown algae (21–29.5%) and red algae (20–29%). Lipid content was found to be low in all the studied taxa at approximately 1–6%, except for Caulerpa prolifera (Chlorophyta), which had a noticeable higher lipid content at 12.41%. These results indicated that Phaeophyceae were enriched with a high phytochemical content, followed by that of Chlorophyta and Rhodophyta. The studied algal species contained a high amount of carbohydrate and protein, indicating that they could be considered as a healthy food source.
In the present paper we report the first record of the Brassy Chub Kyphosus vaigiensis (Quoy and Giamard, 1825) from the Mediterranean coast of Libya. It is assumed that this species arrived into the ...Mediterranean from the Red Sea via the Suez Canal. We stress the need of taxonomic study on the genus Kyphosus in the Mediterranean.

Tidal current energy is considered as one of the most important topics to be analyzed due to the penetration of renewable energy sources into the grid. The influence of unsteady wave is playing a ...crucial role on the tidal currents speed forecasting and its extracted power as well as its integration into the grid. The influence is not significant in case of single turbine or ducted tidal turbines. That is particularly important when taking in account the wave effect as a significant factor to predict the potential of tidal energy in various locations and evaluate the power losses due to severe weather condition. In this work we studied the influence of unsteady wave on the tidal current energy in case of two and three tidal turbines. The proposed work is validated by using more than one forecasting model based on ANN as well as making an interface with the Arduino (micro controller) using MATLAB/Simulink to calculate the power loss due to the wave effect during severe weather conditions. Results proves that using the wave height as an input for the forecasting models will improve the forecasted speed. Also, wave height will reduce the extracted output power and increase the power losses especially in case of multi turbines due to the increase of wave height.

Renewable energy resources have a positive environmental impact and are considered as a vital source of pollution free energy. Tidal instream and wind energy use similar techniques for generating ...electrical energy. Wind energy cost is still lower than tidal instream energy cost. However Tidal instream speed is more predictable than wind speed. Researchers are still working on tidal instream to reduce the energy extraction cost. Optimization is one of the best tools used to minimize the cost depending on some constraints. This paper is exploring different optimization tools for wind and tidal instream energies. Three different concepts are discussed using various tools for both types of energy. The fist concept is using arrays layout arrangements for the optimum performance. The second concept consider the turbine parameters for the minimum energy cost. The third concept depends on the coordination between several types of energy sources and the location of the units for the minimum cost.
Marine energy is getting more attention recently as it deems a huge source of clean power. Tidal power is the most promising image of marine and ocean energy due to the high accurate prediction of ...the available power and cutting-edge control system design with new cost reduction strategies. The aim of the work is to mitigate the behavior of surface ocean waves under severe weather condition. The presence of unsteady waves influences the overall performance of in-stream tidal power system. Such effect may appear as a fluctuation in the output power or reduction in the produced energy. In this paper, the data of wave height and tidal speed was taken from Minas passage and used to mitigate the wave effect on the stream power system.
Tidal in-stream power generation is based on current speed which is more predictable compared to wind speed, but the performance of tidal in-stream devices may be affected by unsteady surface waves. ...This work examines the influence of unsteady surface waves on the performance of tidal in-stream energy systems using real data for tidal currents from Minas Passage site, Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, Canada. Two concepts are used to test the correlation between waves and tidal currents with two different tools for both types of energy variables. The first concept is the speed of tidal currents. The relationship between the tidal current speed and the maximum wave height is confirmed. The second concept considers the wave direction. For the most cost-effective system, considering the effects of surface waves is needed. Results confirm the distortion effect of unsteady surface wave on the tidal in-stream speed.

The Fontan operation has resulted in significant improvement in survival of patients with single ventricle physiology. As a result, there is a growing population of individuals with Fontan physiology ...reaching adolescence and adulthood. Despite the improved survival, there are long-term morbidities associated with the Fontan operation. Pulmonary complications are common and may contribute to both circulatory and pulmonary insufficiency, leading ultimately to Fontan failure. These complications include restrictive lung disease, sleep abnormalities, plastic bronchitis, and cyanosis. Cyanosis post-Fontan procedure can be attributed to multiple causes including systemic to pulmonary venous collateral channels and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. This review presents the unique cardiopulmonary interactions in the Fontan circulation. Understanding the cardiopulmonary interactions along with improved recognition and treatment of pulmonary abnormalities may improve the long-term outcomes in this growing patient population. Interventions focused on improving pulmonary function including inspiratory muscle training and endurance training have shown a promising effect post-Fontan procedure.
