There is a significant variety of vascular conduits options for coronary bypass surgery. Adequate graft selection is the most important factor for the success of the intervention. To ensure ...durability, permeability, and bypass function, there must be a morphological similarity between the graft and the coronary artery. The objective of this review was to analyze the morphological characteristics of the grafts that are most commonly used in coronary bypass surgery and the coronary arteries that are most frequently occluded. We included clinical information regarding the characteristics that determine the behavior of the grafts and its permeability over time. Currently, the internal thoracic artery is the standard choice for bypass surgery because of the morphological characteristics of the wall that makes less prone to developing atherosclerosis and hyperplasia. The radial and right gastroepiploic arteries are the following second and third best options, respectively. The ulnar artery is the preferred choice when other conduits are not feasible.
Purpose
To determine, identify and measure the structures of the menisco-tibio-popliteus-fibular complex (MTPFC) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in knees without structural abnormalities or a ...history of knee surgery.
Methods
One-hundred-and-five knees without prior injury or antecedent surgery were analyzed by means of MRI. The average age was 50.1 years ± 14.8. All the measurements were performed by three observers. The peripherical structures of the lateral meniscus body were identified to determine the location, size, and thickness of the entire MTPFC. The distance to other “key areas” in the lateral compartment was also studied and compared by gender and age.
Results
The lateral meniscotibial ligament (LMTL) was found in 97.1% of the MRIs, the popliteofibular ligament (PFL) in 93.3%, the popliteomeniscal ligaments (PML) in 90.4% and the meniscofibular ligament (MFL) in 39%. The anteroposterior distance of the LMTL in an axial view was 20.7 mm ± 3.9, the anterior thickness of the LMTL was 1.1 mm ± 0.3, and the posterior thickness of the LMTL 1.2 mm ± 0.1 and the height in a coronal view was 10.8 mm ± 1.9. The length of the PFL in a coronal view was 8.7 mm ± 2.5, the thickness was 1.4 mm ± 0.4 and the width in an axial view was 7.8 mm ± 2.2.
Conclusions
The MTPFC has a constant morphological and anatomical pattern for three of its main ligaments and can be easily identified and measured in an MRI; the MFL has a lower prevalence, considering a structure difficult to identify by 1.5 T MRI.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common causes of disability and a prevalent chronic disease. The use of collagen is growing due to the satisfactory results in the treatment of OA. ...However, the possible beneficial effects of collagen for the treatment of OA are currently controversial. The aim of the present meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of collagen-based supplements on OA symptoms.
Methods
PubMed-Medline, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases were searched for randomized placebo-controlled trials evaluating the effect of orally administered collagen on OA symptoms using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scale and/or the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results
Collagen treatment showed a significant reduction in the score of total WOMAC index (WMD − 8.00; 95% CI − 13.04, − 2.95;

= 0.002). After subgroup analysis of the WOMAC subscores, the collagen supplementation revealed a significant decrease in the stiffness subscore (WMD − 0.41; 95% CI − 0.74, − 0.08;
p
= 0.01), whereas the pain (WMD − 0.22; 95% CI − 1.58, 1.13;
p
= 0.75) and functional limitation (WMD − 0.62; 95% CI − 5.77, 4.52;

= 0.81) subscores did not have significant differences. Finally, a significant reduction was found in the VAS score after collagen administration (WMD − 16.57; 95% CI − 26.24, − 6.89;

Conclusion
The results of this meta-analysis showed that collagen is effective in improving OA symptoms by the decrease of both total WOMAC index and VAS score.
Purpose
Third and fourth-generation minimal invasive osteotomies (MIO) for the treatment of hallux valgus (HV) have become popular procedures worldwide with promising results due to the improvement ...in the fixation method. The tricortical cannulated screw placement remains a complex procedure that is technically challenging and requires a long skill learning curve with high radiation exposure mainly in the form of intensifier shots (IS) required for the MIO fixation. This study aims to compare the number of X-ray IS required using three different techniques for the cannulated guide placement.
Methods
A retrospective cross-sectional observational and comparative study was conducted to assess the number of X-rays IS required for correct cannulated screw guide placement using three different techniques: traditional perforator, the drill and joystick, and K-wire first techniques.
Results
A total of 53 MIS procedures from thirty-one patients in two different hospitals were included. IS X-rays were 155.1 ± 29.7 in the traditional technique (

= 14), 143.0 ± 43.2 in the drill and joystick technique (
n
= 22), and 85 ± 18.7 in the K-wires first technique (

= 17),

= < 0.001 using one-way ANOVA.
Conclusions

Clinical skills and medical knowledge enable physicians to overcome the uncertainty of emergent and rare clinical scenarios. Recently, a growing emphasis on evidence‐based medicine (EBM) has flooded ...medical curricula of universities across the globe with guideline‐based material, and while it has given teachers and students new tools to improve medical education, clinical reasoning must be reaffirmed in its capacity to provide physicians with the ability to solve unexpected clinical scenarios. Anatomical education in medical school should have two main objectives: to acquire anatomical knowledge and to develop the skill of applying that knowledge in clinical scenarios. The authors present a clinical scenario in which an unexpected and rare complication occurred during a routine elective hip replacement surgery. The general surgeon presiding over the case, also an anatomy professor, solved the problem using clinical reasoning and anatomical knowledge. It was a clear example of how clinical reasoning is key in approaching unprecedented, rare, or unknown complications. The intention of this scenario is to remind colleagues and medical schools that, although EBM is the standard, educators must uphold sound clinical reasoning to best prepare health care providers for their careers.
The use of hyaluronidase in hyaluronic acid vascular occlusion has been evaluated; however, the models used do not accurately assimilate the facial morphologic characteristics or study the effects on ...adjacent tissues. The purpose of this study was to determine an effective concentration of subcutaneous hyaluronidase to dissolve a hyaluronic acid embolism and its effect on surrounding tissue.
Fifteen rabbits were divided into six groups. An inguinal incision was performed on the femoral artery to create a hyaluronic acid embolism in the control and treatment groups (low-, medium-, and high-hyaluronidase groups). Hyaluronidase was injected subcutaneously. Photographic follow-up, histologic analysis, and quantification of hyaluronic acid were performed. Kruskal-Wallis test and post hoc with Bonferroni correction (p < 0.05) was used to compare the presence of hyaluronic acid in the arterial lumen between groups.
Despite the persistence of intravascular hyaluronic acid, macroscopic and microscopic differences were found between the embolism control group and embolism hyaluronidase high-dose group. Histologic analysis demonstrated thrombosis throughout groups. Skeletal muscle was least affected in the embolism hyaluronidase 500 IU group with less lysis and inflammatory infiltrate.
A 500 IU hyaluronidase dose partially prevents the damage caused by the embolism, and does not affect the surrounding tissue. The use of thrombolytic therapy combined with higher doses of hyaluronidase subcutaneously in this model is proposed.

Systematic review of studies that described the management of Neimeier type II perforation, reported complications of the first intervention, necessity of added interventions, resolution of the pathology, and days of hospital stay were included. The search strategy was conducted in EMBASE, Mayo Journals, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Web of Science (December 2020)
A total of 122 patients (53% male) from case reports, series, and cohorts were included for analysis. In total 56 (46%) and 44 (36%)patients were treated with open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy respectively. Overall risk of bias was moderate. The need for another intervention was higher in the laparoscopic group (5 vs 17, p=<0.001) as well as prevalence of complications (4 vs 16, p=<0.001), but lower for days of hospital stay (median days 5. vs 15, p = 0.008) against open cholecystectomy. Preoperative percutaneous catheter drainage did not influence outcome.
Open cholecystectomy has a lower need for further surgical procedures and postoperative complications, but a longer hospital stay. These outcomes did not vary with preoperative percutaneous drainage. The effect of timing of cholecystectomy did not influence the outcomes.
Anatomical sciences curricula have been under constant reform over the years, with many countries having to reduce course hours while trying to preserve laboratory time. In Mexico, schools have ...historically been autonomous and unregulated, and data regarding structure and methods are still lacking. A national survey was sent by the Mexican Society of Anatomy to 110 anatomical sciences educators. The questionnaire consisted of 50 items (open and multiple choice) for gross anatomy, microscopic anatomy, neuroanatomy, and embryology courses in medical schools across Mexico. A clinical approach was the most common course approach in all disciplines. Contact course hours and laboratory hours were higher in Mexican anatomy education compared to other countries, with the highest reported contact hours for embryology (133.4 ± 44.1) and histology (125 ± 33.2). There were similar contact hours to other countries for gross anatomy (228.5 ± 60.5). Neuroanatomy course hours (43.9 ± 13.1) were less than reported by the United States and similar to Saudi Arabia and higher than the United Kingdom. Dissection and microscopy with histological slides predominate as the most common laboratory activities. Traditional methods prevail in most of the courses in Mexico and only a few educators have implemented innovative and technological tools. Implementation of new methods, approaches, and curricular changes are needed to enhance anatomical sciences education in Mexico.

Background
Currently, the exact incidence of Polymorphic Eruption of Pregnancy (PEP) in the Mexican population is unknown. PEP tends to manifest in the abdomen, primarily in the stretch marks caused ...by distension. It is characterized by severely pruritic urticarial‐like papules that converge in plaques, extending to the buttocks and proximal thighs. Our study determined its incidence, along with other common dermatoses in pregnancy.
Methods
Patients between 14 and 45 years of age were evaluated. In each patient, a complete medical history and physical examination was performed with emphasis on skin and adnexa. Patients were followed until the end of their pregnancy.
Results
A total of 217 women were included. PEP was identified in three patients (1.38%), all primigravida, with single fetus pregnancy, and all concluded their pregnancy by vaginal delivery. The neonates were 2 females and 1 male. No other gestational pathologies were identified.
Conclusions
We identified a higher incidence of PEP than reported, without association to complications or need for medical management. There may be an association between high maternal weight and the presence of PEP, however a larger sample is needed.
