KELT-24 is the brightest star known to host a transiting giant planet with a period between 5 and 10 days. Although the circularization timescale is much longer than the age of the system, we do not detect a large eccentricity or significant misalignment that is expected from dynamical migration. The brightness of its host star and its moderate surface gravity make KELT-24b an intriguing target for detailed atmospheric characterization through spectroscopic emission measurements since it would bridge the current literature results that have primarily focused on lower mass hot Jupiters and a few brown dwarfs.

Its planetary companion (KELT-24 b) has a radius of RP=1.272±0.021RJ and a mass of MP=-+5.180.220.21MJ, and from Doppler tomographic observations, we find that the planet’s orbit is well aligned to its host star’s projected spin axis (l=-+2.63.65.1). The young age estimated for KELT-24 suggests that it only recently started to evolve from the zero-age main sequence. Abstract
Large-scale exoplanet surveys like the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission are powerful tools for discovering large numbers of exoplanet candidates. Single-transit events ...are commonplace within the resulting candidate list due to the unavoidable limitation of the observing baseline. These single-transit planets often remain unverified due to their unknown orbital periods and consequent difficulty in scheduling follow-up observations. In some cases, radial velocity (RV) follow up can constrain the period enough to enable a future targeted transit detection. We present the confirmation of one such planet: TOI-2010 b. Nearly three years of RV coverage determined the period to a level where a broad window search could be undertaken with the Near-Earth Object Surveillance Satellite, detecting an additional transit. An additional detection in a much later TESS sector solidified our final parameter estimation. We find TOI-2010 b to be a Jovian planet (

= 9.85) make TOI-2010 b a valuable test bed for future low-insolation atmospheric analysis.
The detection of planetary transits in the light curves of active stars, featuring correlated noise in the form of stellar variability, remains a challenge. Depending on the noise characteristics, we ...show that the traditional technique that consists of detrending a light curve before searching for transits alters their signal-to-noise ratio, and hinders our capability to discover exoplanets transiting rapidly-rotating active stars. We present nuance, an algorithm to search for transits in light curves while simultaneously accounting for the presence of correlated noise, such as stellar variability and instrumental signals. We assess the performance of nuance on simulated light curves as well as on the TESS light curves of 438 rapidly-rotating M dwarfs. For each dataset, we compare our method to 5 commonly-used detrending techniques followed by a search with the Box-Least-Square algorithm. Overall, we demonstrate that nuance is the most performant method in 93% of cases, leading to both the highest number of true positives and the lowest number of false positive detections. Although simultaneously searching for transits while modeling correlated noise is expected to be computationally expensive, we make our algorithm tractable and available as the JAX-powered Python package nuance, allowing its use on distributed environments and GPU devices. Finally, we explore the prospects offered by the nuance formalism, and its use to advance our knowledge of planetary systems around active stars, both using space-based surveys and sparse ground-based observations.
We report the discovery of 2M0056-08 as an equal-mass eclipsing binary (EB), comprising two red straggler stars (RSSs) with an orbital period of 33.9 d. Both stars have masses of 1.419 Msun, ...identical to within 0.2%. Both stars appear to be in the early red-giant phase of evolution; however, they are far displaced to cooler temperatures and lower luminosities compared to standard stellar models. The broadband spectral energy distribution shows NUV excess and X-ray emission, consistent with chromospheric and coronal emission from magnetically active stars; indeed, the stars rotate more rapidly than typical red giants and they evince light curve modulations due to spots. These modulations also reveal the stars to be rotating synchronously with one another. There is evidence for excess FUV emission and long-term modulations in radial-velocities; it is not clear whether these are also attributable to magnetic activity or if they reveal a tertiary companion. Stellar evolution models modified to account for the effects of spots can reproduce the observed radii and temperatures of the RSSs. If the system possesses a white dwarf tertiary, then mass-transfer scenarios could explain the manner by which the stars came to possess such remarkably identical masses and by which they came to be sychronized. However, if the stars are presumed to have been formed as identical twins, and they managed to become tidally synchronized as they evolved toward the red giant branch, then all of the features of the system can be explained via activity effects, without requiring a complex dynamical history.
We report the discovery of 2M1222-57 as a low-mass, pre-main-sequence (PMS) eclipsing binary (EB) in the Lower Centaurus Crux (LCC) association for which, using Gaia parallaxes and proper motions ...with a neural-net age estimator, we determine an age of 16.2\(\pm\)2.2 Myr. The broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) shows clear excess at ~10 um indicative of a circumbinary disk, and new speckle-imaging observations reveal a faint, tertiary companion separated by ~100 AU. H-alpha emission is modulated on the orbital period, consistent with theoretical models of orbitally pulsed accretion streams reaching from the inner disk edge to the central stars. From a joint analysis of spectroscopically determined radial velocities and TESS light curves, together with additional tight constraints provided by the SED and the Gaia parallax, we measure masses for the eclipsing stars of 0.74 Msun and 0.67 Msun; radii of 0.98 Rsun and 0.94 Rsun; and effective temperatures of 3750 K and 3645 K. The masses and radii of both stars are measured to an accuracy of ~1%. The measured radii are inflated, and the temperatures suppressed, relative to predictions of standard PMS evolutionary models at the age of LCC; also, the Li abundances are ~2 dex less depleted than predicted by those models. However, models that account for the global and internal effects of surface magnetic fields are able to simultaneously reproduce the measured radii, temperatures, and Li abundances at an age of 17.0\(\pm\)0.5 Myr. Altogether, the 2M1222-57 system presents very strong evidence that magnetic activity in young stars alters both their global properties and the physics of their interiors.
We present a comprehensive multiwavelength investigation into flares and activity in nearby M~dwarf stars. We leverage the most extensive contemporaneous dataset obtained through the Transiting ...Exoplanet Sky Survey (TESS), Kepler/K2, the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (\textit{Swift}), and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), spanning the optical and near-ultraviolet (NUV) regimes. In total, we observed 213 NUV flares on 24 nearby M dwarfs, with \(\sim\)27\% of them having detected optical counterparts, and found that all optical flares had NUV counterparts. We explore NUV/optical energy fractionation in M dwarf flares. Our findings reveal a slight decrease in the ratio of optical to NUV energies with increasing NUV energies, a trend in agreement with prior investigations on G-K stars' flares at higher energies. Our analysis yields an average NUV fraction of flaring time for M0-M3 dwarfs of 2.1\%, while for M4-M6 dwarfs, it is 5\%. We present an empirical relationship between NUV and optical flare energies and compare to predictions from radiative-hydrodynamic and blackbody models. We conducted a comparison of the flare frequency distribution (FFDs) of NUV and optical flares, revealing the FFDs of both NUV and optical flares exhibit comparable slopes across all spectral subtypes. NUV flares on stars affect the atmospheric chemistry, the radiation environment, and the overall potential to sustain life on any exoplanets they host. We find that early and mid-M dwarfs (M0-M5) have the potential to generate NUV flares capable of initiating abiogenesis.
As many as 10\% of OB-type stars have global magnetic fields, which is
surprising given their internal structure is radiative near the surface. A
direct probe of internal structure is pulsations, and ...some OB-type stars
exhibit pressure modes ($\beta$ Cep pulsators) or gravity modes (slowly
pulsating B-type stars; SPBs); a few rare cases of hybrid $\beta$ Cep/SPBs
occupy a narrow instability strip in the H-R diagram. The most precise
fundamental properties of stars are obtained from eclipsing binaries (EBs), and
those in clusters with known ages and metallicities provide the most stringent
constraints on theory. Here we report the discovery that HD 149834 in the
$\sim$5 Myr cluster NGC 6193 is an EB comprising a hybrid $\beta$ Cep/SPB
pulsator and a highly irradiated low-mass companion. We determine the masses,
radii, and temperatures of both stars; the $\sim$9.7 M$_\odot$ primary resides
in the instability strip where hybrid pulsations are theoretically predicted.
The presence of both SPB and $\beta$ Cep pulsations indicates that the system
has a near-solar metallicity, and is in the second half of the main-sequence
lifetime. The radius of the $\sim$1.2 M$_\odot$ companion is consistent with
theoretical pre-main-sequence isochrones at 5 Myr, but its temperature is much
higher than expected, perhaps due to irradiation by the primary. The radius of
the primary is larger than expected, unless its metallicity is super-solar.
Finally, the light curve shows residual modulation consistent with the rotation
of the primary, and Chandra observations reveal a flare, both of which suggest
the presence of starspots and thus magnetism on the primary.
In this work, we present the analysis of 33,054 M-dwarf stars located within 100 parsecs in the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) Full Frame Images (FFIs) of the observed sectors 1 to 5. ...We present a new pipeline called NEMESIS which was developed to extract detrended photometry and perform transit searches of single sector data in TESS FFIs. As many M-dwarfs are faint and are not observed with a 2 minute cadence by TESS, FFI transit surveys can give an empirical validation of how many planets are missed by using the 30 minute cadence data. In this work, we detected 183 threshold crossing events and present 29 planet candidates for sectors 1 to 5, 24 of which are new detections. Our sample contains orbital periods ranging from 1.25 to 6.84 days and planetary radii from 1.26 to 5.31 Earth radii. With the addition of our new planet candidate detections along with previous detections observed in sectors 1 to 5, we calculate an integrated occurrence rate of 2.49 +/- 1.58 planets per star for the period range between 1,9 days and planet radius range between 0.5,11 Earth radii. We project an estimated yield of 122 +/- 11 transit detections of nearby M-dwarfs. 23 of our new candidates have Signal to Noise ratios > 7, Transmission Spectroscopy Metrics > 38 and Emission Spectroscopy Metrics > 10.
