While universities routinely use student data to monitor and predict student performance, there has been limited engagement with student and staff views, social and ethical issues, policy ...development, and ethical guidance. We reviewed peer-reviewed and grey-literature articles of 2007 to 2018 describing the perspectives of staff and students in tertiary education on the use of student-generated data in data analytics, including learning analytics. We used an ethics framework to categorize the findings. There was considerable variation but generally low awareness and understanding amongst students and staff about the nature and extent of data collection, data analytics, and use of predictive analytics. Staff and students identified potential benefits but also expressed concerns about misinterpretation of data, constant surveillance, poor transparency, inadequate support, and potential to impede active learning. This review supports the contention that consideration of ethical issues has failed to keep pace with the development of predictive analytics in the tertiary sector. Author abstract
To evaluate the antioxidant activity of flavonoids extracted from Chinese herb mulberry leaves (ML), flavonoids from mulberry leaves (FML) were extracted and purified by using ultrasonic-assisted ...enzymatic extraction and D101 macroporous resin. Using LC-MS/MS-Liquid Chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry analysis, hesperidin, rutoside, hyperoside, cyanidin-3-o-glucoside, myricitrin, cyanidin, and quercetin were identified, and NMR and UV were consistent with the verification of IR flavonoid characteristics. The antioxidant activity of FML has also been evaluated as well as the protective effect on 2,2 0-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH)-induced oxidative stress. The results showed that FML exhibited powerful antioxidant activity. Moreover, FML showed dose-dependent protection against AAPH-induced sheep erythrocytes’ oxidative hemolysis. In the enzymatic antioxidant system, pretreatment with high FML maintained the balance of SOD, CAT, and GSH-Px; in the non-enzymatic antioxidant system, the content of MDA can be effectively reduced after FML treatment. This study provides a research basis for the development of natural products from mulberry leaves.
A predominant polysaccharide isolated from Ischnoderma resinosum underwent evaluation for its capacity to scavenge free radicals and its potential antioxidant properties at a cellular-oriented level. ...This proved that Ischnoderma resinosum polysaccharide (IRP) remarkably curtailed AAPH-induced erythrocyte hemolysis through the inhibition of the generation of ROS (p < 0.05). Rather, it caused the restoration of intracellular antioxidant enzyme (SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT) activities at an acceptable pace and the silencing of intracellular MDA formation, as well as the rescaling of LDH leakage. Furthermore, a model of oxidative stress in HepG2 cells was established by adopting 400 μM of hydrogen peroxide, which suggested that IRP manifests promising antioxidant activity. Notably, after the intervention of IRP in the H2O2-induced HepG2 cells, there was a statistical elevation in cell survivability (p < 0.05). IRP diminished the morphological alterations in the nucleus and decreased the secretion of ROS (p < 0.05), with a dose-dependent abrogation of apoptosis (p < 0.05). Consequently, IRP, which was isolated and purified, was able to scavenge free radicals and possessed favorable antioxidant activity that could dampen the occurrence of oxidative stimulation and effectively alleviate the AAPH-induced erythrocyte hemolysis and H2O2-induced oxidative damage in HepG2 cells. This provides a basis and theoretical reference for the development and utilization of IRP as a natural antioxidant, with emphasis on the exploitation of environmentally friendly and cost-effective antioxidants.
Robust unsupervised feature learning is a critical yet tough task for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) automatic target recognition (ATR) with limited labeled data. The developing contrastive ...self-supervised learning (CSL) method, which learns informative representations by solving an instance discrimination task, provides a novel method for learning discriminative features from unlabeled SAR images. However, the instance-level contrastive loss can magnify the differences between samples belonging to the same class in the latent feature space. Therefore, CSL can dispel these targets from the same class and affect the downstream classification tasks. In order to address this problem, this paper proposes a novel framework called locality preserving property constrained contrastive learning (LPPCL), which not only learns informative representations of data but also preserves the local similarity property in the latent feature space. In LPPCL, the traditional InfoNCE loss of the CSL models is reformulated in a cross-entropy form where the local similarity of the original data is embedded as pseudo labels. Furthermore, the traditional two-branch CSL architecture is extended to a multi-branch structure, improving the robustness of models trained with limited batch sizes and samples. Finally, the self-attentive pooling module is used to replace the global average pooling layer that is commonly used in most of the standard encoders, which provides an adaptive method for retaining information that benefits downstream tasks during the pooling procedure and significantly improves the performance of the model. Validation and ablation experiments using MSTAR datasets found that the proposed framework outperformed the classic CSL method and achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) results.
The purpose was to create a novel composite food preservative for fresh-cut lettuce using flavonoids and chitosan from sea buckthorn leaves (SBL). Sea buckthorn leaves were extracted with ethanol as ...the extraction solvent and ultrasonic-assisted extraction to obtain flavonoid from sea buckthorn leaf crude (FSL), and then the FSL was secondarily purified with AB-8 resin and polyamide resin to obtain flavonoid from sea buckthorn leaf purified (FSL-1). Different concentrations of FSL-1 and chitosan were made into a composite preservative (FCCP) by magnetic stirring and other methods, containing 1% chitosan preservative (CP) alone, 0.5-2 mg/ml of FSL-1 and 1% chitosan composite preservative (FCCP-1, FCCP-2, FCCP-3, and FCCP-4), and the FSL-1 concentrations were analyzed the effect of FSL-1 concentration on the physicochemical properties of the composite preservatives, including their film-forming ability, antioxidant capacity and ability to prevent bacterial growth, was analyzed. To further investigate the effect of the combined preservatives on fresh-cut lettuce, different FCCPs were applied to the surface was stored at 4°C for 7 days. Then the changes in weight loss, hardness, browning index, total chlorophyll content, SOD and MDA were analyzed. It was used to assess the physicochemical indicators of fresh-cut lettuce throughout storage. According to the results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, FSL-1 and chitosan interacted to form hydrogen bonds, and the contact angle and viscosity of FCCP increased on both horizontal glass and polystyrene plates, indicating the good film-forming properties of the composite preservation solution. When fresh-cut lettuce was coated with FCCP for the same storage time, various indicators of lettuce such as weight loss, hardness, browning index, SOD activity and MDA content were better than the control group showing good potential in fresh-cut vegetables and fruits preservation. FCCP holds great promise for food safety quality and shelf-life extension as a new natural food preservative. The waste utilization of sea buckthorn leaves can greatly improve his utilization and economic benefits.
Geraniol nanoemulsions (G-NE) based on Tween 80 and medium chain triglyceride (MCT) as surfactant and co-surfactant, respectively, has been prepared by the spontaneous emulsification method. Its ...physical and chemical properties such as mean particle size, zeta potential, PDI, pH, viscosity, contact angle, appearance morphology, and stability (storage stability, thermal stability, centrifugal properties, acid-base stability, and freeze-thaw properties) of the droplet were analyzed. The results showed that the mean particle size of G-NE was 90.33 ± 5.23 nm, the PDI was 0.058 ± 0.0007, the zeta potential was -17.95 ± 5.85 mV and the encapsulation efficiency was >90%. The effects of GPP on the injury model were evaluated by cell survival rate, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), lipid peroxidation (MDA), production of intracellular antioxidant enzymes, reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), cellular inflammation level and apoptosis level. The results showed that GPP pretreatment had a protective effect by increasing cell viability, reducing lactate dehydrogenase infiltration, decreasing MDA and increasing intracellular antioxidant enzymes, diminishing reactive oxygen species production and decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential, reducing cell inflammation and decreasing apoptosis. Oil film vortex severely reduces the stability of hydrostatic bearings. A solid-liquid interface with drag and slip properties can weaken the oil film vortex of the bearing. Here, a combined ...picosecond laser ablation and chemical modification method is proposed to prepare surfaces with microbulge array structure on 6061 aluminum alloy substrates. Because of the low surface energy of the perfluorododecyltriethoxysilane modification and the bulge geometry of the microbulge array structure, the surface shows excellent superhydrophobicity. The optimum contact angle in air for water is 164°, and that for oil is 139°. Two surfaces with “lotus-leaf effect” and “rose-petal effect” were obtained by controlling the processing parameters. The drag reduction properties of superhydrophobic surfaces were systematically investigated with slip lengths of 22.26 and 36.25 µm for deionized water and VG5 lubricant, respectively. In addition, the superhydrophobic surface exhibits excellent mechanical durability and thermal stability. The proposed method provides a new idea for vortex suppression in hydrostatic bearings and improves the stability of bearings in high-speed operation.
The origin of the Dexing porphyry Cu deposit is hotly debated. Zircon and apatite are important accessory minerals that record key information of mineralization processes. SHRIMP zircon U-Pb analyses ...of granodiorite porphyries yield ages of 168.9 ± 1.2 Ma, 168.0 ± 1.0 Ma, and 172.8 ± 1.3 Ma, whereas zircons in the volcanic rocks of the Shuangqiaoshan Group have Neoproterozoic ages of 830 ± 7 Ma, 829 ± 8 Ma, and 899 ± 12 Ma. The porphyry displays zircon in situ δ18O of mantle values (5.5 ± 0.2‰), low apatite 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7058 ± 0.0005), and high εHf values (5.1 ± 1.5), which are consistent with mantle-derived magmatic rocks. Apatite from the porphyries has relatively high total rare earth elements (REEs) and negative Eu anomalies, with relatively high Cl and As contents. These features are distinctly different from apatite in the Shuangqiaoshan Group, which shows lower total REE, Cl, and As contents but higher F content and positive Eu anomalies. Zircon in porphyries yields a relative high oxygen fugacity of ∆FMQ + 1.5 based on zircon Ce4+/Ce3+. Apatite in porphyries also shows high oxygen fugacity based on its SO3 and Mn compositions, reaching ∆FMQ + 2, which is different from that of the lower continental crust in general, but similar to subduction-related magmas. In contrast, the oxygen fugacity of the Shuangqiaoshan Group is much lower, suggesting a different origin for its wall rock. Therefore, the Dexing porphyries were not derived from the lower crust but derived from partial melting of the subducting Paleo-Pacific plate.
In this paper, the effect of the water-silicon ratio of the molecular sieve synthesis solution on the molecular sieve anticorrosive film during the preparation of the silicalite-1 molecular sieve ...membrane by the secondary growth method was studied. In order to enhance the bonding force between the foamed aluminum and the molecular sieve anticorrosive film, the silane coupling agent was used as the connection layer to study the film-forming effect and anticorrosive effect of the molecular sieve film when the water-silicon ratio was 100, 200, and 300. Scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction were used to analyze the morphology and composition of the anticorrosive film, and the corrosion resistance of the film was analyzed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results show that the surface of the silicalite-1 anticorrosive film prepared with a water-silicon ratio of 200: 1 is the most dense, and the crystallinity and anticorrosive performance are the best. On this basis, the film formation mechanism and anticorrosive mechanism of the silicalite-1 anticorrosive film on the surface of aluminum foam were analyzed.
