3D printing of a composite structure with shape memory materials requires a special approach to the subject, at the stage of the design and printing process. This paper presents the design steps ...during the development of a 3D-printed composite structure with shape memory material. The connection points between the SMA fibers and the printer filament are developed in the MATLAB environment. Finite element method is used to simulate the shortening of the shape memory material under the influence of temperature and its effect on the printed polymer material is presented. In the MATLAB environment, evolutionary algorithms were used to determine the shape of the SMA fiber alignment. This work demonstrates the use of shape memory effect in 3D printed smart composite structures, where the component takes a predetermined shape. The structure obtained as a result of such printing changes with the heat generated by the current voltage, making it the desired fourth dimension.
Continuous production maintenance cost is among one of the highest operational expenses for manufacturing companies. Proper planning of maintenance interventions results in optimized equipment use, ...higher product quality, and reduced costs. For a belt drive usefulness, it is important that it is properly stretched and has no defects. However, manual condition assessment requires a production line stop, which in turn causes production to stop with associated consequences. Continuous fault diagnosis for anomalies is a fundamental step in estimating a component’s remaining service life and then obtaining a reliable predictive maintenance system that reduces production costs. The presented work presents an approach to anomaly detection based on the vibrations obtained from the operation of the belt transmission.
Numerical simulations have become more and more important in recent years for the design of supporting road equipment structures. These structures are important for ensuring the proper level of ...passive safety for drivers and passengers. These structures also allow the reduction of costs of entry for new products on the market and reduction of the total cost of production. In this paper was shown comparison of passive safety coefficient ASI and THIV for lighting column made of composite material and aluminum based on experimentally verified numerical simulation. FEM was used to carry out the simulation which was implemented in LS Dyna to determine passive safety coefficients, whose algorithm was written in MATLAB. Authors presented parameters of numerical model of the car and lighting column with the ground. The accepted boundary and initial conditions were chosen in order to show the behaviour of the lighting column during a collision with a car.
Background: In the face of changes taking place as a result of the increasing digitization, automation, and robotization of life and the economy, questions regarding the essence of the functioning of ...modern enterprises and about the emerging new pattern of operation seem to be more and more relevant. Aim of the article: The article focuses on the issues connected with implementation of Industry 4.0 in enterprises, the difficulties involved, and the limitations and challenges that management is facing in the process. Materials and Method: The advantage of the study is its empirical nature. The participants were 39 Industry 4.0 experts from various Polish companies that have participated. At the same time, the aim has been to synthesize theory and practice and to draw attention to potential changes in the area of improvement of the economic results of enterprises that may result from Industry 4.0. Results: The research identified limitations and challenges enterprises may face in connection with the implementation and subsequent stages of development of Industry 4.0 from the practical point of view. Conclusions: Industry 4.0 is an innovative approach to generating a new quality of production. It requires, however, careful and thorough observation of the process already at the preparation stage.

This paper presents a novel mechatronic device to support a gait reeducation process. The conceptual works were done by the interdisciplinary design team. This collaboration allowed to perform a ...device that would connect the current findings in the fields of biomechanics and mechatronics. In the first part of the article shown a construction of the device which is based on the structure of an overhead travelling crane. The rest of the article contains the issues related to machine control system. In the prototype, the control of drive system is conducted by means of two RT-DAC4/PCI real time cards connected with a signal conditioning interface. Authors present the developed control algorithms and optimization process of the controller settings values. The summary contains a comparison of some numerical simulation results and experimental data from the sensors mounted on the device. The measurement data were obtained during the gait of a healthy person.

Malalignment of Total Knee Replacement prosthesis has been reported to limit the implant survival time. We hypothesized that this may be secondary to excessive stress occurring at the bone-implant ...interface, resulting from abnormal load transfer across the knee joint. In this study, we conducted Finite Element Analysis of a geometrical model of the knee joint after Total Knee Replacement with different axial alignments. The calculated stresses and displacements were significantly higher with varus knee malalignment than with the valgus one. The stresses are not high enough to pose a serious risk of a crack or a fracture but might be responsible for chronic pain reported by some patients. In cases where optimal implant positioning is not possible, slight valgus malalignment might produce better results than varus.
This paper presents a method of developing a dynamic model enabling the study of the effect of the flexibility of the housing on dynamic phenomena in electromechanical drive systems. The research was ...performed on the basis of an electromechanical model with feedback between the mechanical subsystem (toothed gear with housing) and the electrical subsystem using a software package developed by the author in MATLAB environment.
