Highlights • During pregnancy gefitinib appears to have a good pharmacological profile. • Residual concentration for gefitinib for the mother is within the lower range. • Pharmacological data exhibit ...a low placental transfer of gefitinib. • No accumulation was observed in fetus.
Abstract Aim of this study To determine the prognosis of and prognostic factors for mesenteric node involvement in patients undergoing a bowel resection at the time of debulking surgery for primary ...treatment of advanced-stage ovarian cancer (ASOC). Methods A retrospective review of patients treated between 2005 and 2008 for ASOC and undergoing initial and interval debulking surgery with bowel resection (whatever the bowel segment). The characteristics and prognostic impact of mesenteric node involvement were studied. Results During the study period, 52 patients underwent debulking surgery for ASOC with bowel resection. Eighteen and 34 patients underwent initial or interval debulking surgery respectively. The most frequent site of the bowel resection was the rectosigmoid colon (38 patients; 73%) and 12 patients had resection of at least 2 intestinal segments. All patients had a complete macroscopic resection of peritoneal disease. Nineteen patients (37%) had mesenteric node involvement with a median of 4 involved nodes (range, 1–12). The degree of involvement of the intestinal wall and retroperitoneal node involvement (pelvic or para-aortic) had no impact on the risk of mesenteric node involvement. Overall survival and the location of recurrent disease were similar in patients with or without spread to mesenteric nodes. Conclusions This study suggests that mesenteric node involvement is frequent in patients undergoing bowel resection in ASOC. Such spread does not appear to have an impact on patient survival. Modifying peroperative (particularly the extent of the mesocolon resection) or postoperative management is therefore unnecessary.
The ethylation of 2-(
N,
N-dimethylaminomethyl)ferrocenylcarboxaldehyde
1 without a catalyst is stereospecific and occurs with high rates, yields and diastereoselectivities through an intramolecular ...asymmetric autoactivation. This reaction allowed the synthesis of the enantiopure (+)-(

S)-{2-(

Without catalyst, the addition of Et
2Zn to

Physical activity has been shown to have many benefits, including reducing cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and improving psychological and physical recovery from breast cancer. Some authors have shown ...the benefits of aquatic practice, while others have detailed the benefits of group and supervised practice. We hypothesize that an innovative sports coaching proposal could allow a significant adherence of patients and contribute to their health improvement. The main objective is to study the feasibility of an adapted water polo programme (aqua polo) for women after breast cancer. Secondarily we will analyse the effect of such a practice on patients' recovery and study the relationship between coaches and participants. The use of mixed methods will allow us to question the underlying processes precisely. This is a prospective, non-randomized, monocentric study with a sample of 24 breast cancer patients after treatment. The intervention is a 20 week programme (1 session per week) of aqua polo in a swim club facility, supervised by professional water-polo coaches. The variables measured are patient participation, quality of life (QLQ BR23), CRF (R–PFS) and post-traumatic growth (PTG-I) as well as different variables to observe physical capacity (strength with dynamometer, step-test and arm amplitude). The quality of the coach-patient relationship will be evaluated (CART-Q) to explore its dynamics. Participatory observations and interviews will be carried out to report on the interactions between the coach and the participants during the sessions.

1. The new ligands have been used in the asymmetric ethylation of benzaldehyde by diethylzinc and gave good catalytic properties. One of these ligands was particularly efficient, while the yield of the catalytic test reaction was near to 100% and the enantiomeric excess was about 80%. All the ligands directed the catalytic process towards the same (1

Oxidation of some 2-(
N,
N-dimethylaminomethyl)ferrocenylalkylcarbinols by MnO
2 is totally diastereoselective: only one diastereomer is oxidized. A study was performed to highlight the influential ...factors of this phenomenon. Several ferrocenyl alcohols have been studied. First, two diastereomers of the ferrocenyl amino alcohol bearing a deuterium as an R group have been synthesized and oxidized. The good reactivity of both diastereomers displayed the importance of the size of the alkyl group, which needs to be bulkier than a deuterium. The synthesis and the oxidation of
endo- and
exo-α-hydroxy 4(1,2)ferrocenophane enabled the elimination of the hypothesis involving the spatial position of the hydroxy group, while the two diastereomers were oxidized. The replacement of the dimethylamino group by a methoxy or a methyl, the oxidation of these compounds, and the study of the preferential conformation of each diastereomer showed clearly the influence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond. So,the diastereoselectivity was shown to depend on the steric bulk of the alkyl group and on the presence of a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond between the hydroxy group and the nitrogen.
