The integrated low-level trigger and data acquisition (TDAQ) system of the NA62 experiment at CERN is described. The requirements of a large and fast data reduction in a high-rate environment for a ...medium-scale, distributed ensemble of many different sub-detectors led to the concept of a fully digital integrated system with good scaling capabilities. The NA62 TDAQ system is rather unique in allowing full flexibility on this scale, allowing in principle any information available from the detector to be used for triggering. The design concept, implementation and performances from the first years of running are illustrated.
We present a new limit on the production of a light dark-force mediator with the KLOE detector at DAΦNE. This boson, called U, has been searched for in the decay ϕ→ηU, U→e+e−, analyzing the decay ...η→π0π0π0 in a data sample of 1.7 fb−1. No structures are observed in the e+e− invariant mass distribution over the background. This search is combined with a previous result obtained from the decay η→π+π−π0, increasing the sensitivity. We set an upper limit at 90% C.L. on the ratio between the U boson coupling constant and the fine structure constant of α′/α<1.7×10−5 for 30<MU<400 MeV and α′/α⩽8×10−6 for the sub-region 50<MU<210 MeV. This result assumes the Vector Meson Dominance expectations for the ϕηγ⁎ transition form factor. The dependence of this limit on the transition form factor has also been studied.
The existence of a light dark force mediator has been tested with the KLOE detector at DAΦNE. This particle, called U, is searched for using the decay chain ϕ→ηU, η→π+π−π0, U→e+e−. No evidence is ...found in 1.5 fb−1 of data. The resulting exclusion plot covers the mass range 5<MU<470 MeV, setting an upper limit on the ratio between the U boson coupling constant and the fine structure constant, α′/α, of ⩽2×10−5 at 90% C.L. for 50<MU<420 MeV.

The Time-over-Threshold (ToT) technique is a widely used quantity to measure the energy deposited in various detectors in particle physics. In this paper we present the studies of its behavior in the ...presence of noise. The ToT distributions from cosmic-ray data showed several equally spaced peaks that were successfully modeled due to a sinusoidal noise pick-up. The effects of that noise on the detection efficiency and energy resolution are also discussed.
The measurement of BR(K+→π+νν̄) with 10% precision by the NA62 experiment requires extreme background suppression. The Small Angle Calorimeter aims to provide an efficient veto for photons flying at ...angles down to zero with respect to the kaon flight direction. The initial prototype was upgraded and tested at the Beam Test Facility of the DAΦNE Linac at Frascati. The energy resolution and the efficiency were measured and are presented.
The ratio Rη=Γ(η→π+π−γ)/Γ(η→π+π−π0) has been measured by analysing 22 million ϕ→ηγ decays collected by the KLOE experiment at DAΦNE, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 558 pb−1. The η→π+π−γ ...proceeds both via the ρ resonant contribution, and possibly a non-resonant direct term, connected to the box anomaly. Our result, Rη=0.1856±0.0005stat±0.0028syst, points out a sizable contribution of the direct term to the total width. The di-pion invariant mass for the η→π+π−γ decay could be described in a model-independent approach in terms of a single free parameter, α. The determined value of the parameter α is α=(1.32±0.08stat−0.09syst+0.10±0.02theo) GeV−2.
We have designed and realized a Front-End chip for MPPC in standard CMOS 0.35μm technology. The channel presents a low input impedance in order to reduce as much as possible the recovery time of the ...sensor. This is achieved using the current domain for processing signals through the current conveyors (CCII) as building blocks of the channel. A current feed-back with low-pass filter has also been used to realize a sensitive improvement of the correction of the pile-up problem, in case of high repetition rate events. An independent arming threshold is available for each channel, providing the selection of the event through the peak level (proportional to the number of simultaneously hit pixels) reached by the signal. A constant-fraction functionality is present in order to reduce the well know time-walk problem. The delay in the correspondent branch is obtained by using an additional CCII block. The digital output of the discriminator channel has adjustable time width. The pilot chip is made up of five channels. All the values of the independent thresholds are stored in 10−bit registers as well as the values of the trigger output width and the main polarization current of the CCII blocks. All the registers are writable from a standard three-wire SPI. These features make the chip fully self-consistent. In this work we present and discuss the simulation results together with the preliminary test performed.
This paper reports deuteron vector and tensor beam polarization measurements taken to investigate the systematic variations due to geometric beam misalignments and high data rates. The experiments ...used the In-Beam Polarimeter at the KVI-Groningen and the EDDA detector at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY at Jülich. By measuring with very high statistical precision, the contributions that are second-order in the systematic errors become apparent. By calibrating the sensitivity of the polarimeter to such errors, it becomes possible to obtain information from the raw count rate values on the size of the errors and to use this information to correct the polarization measurements. During the experiment, it was possible to demonstrate that corrections were satisfactory at the level of 10
−5 for deliberately large errors. This may facilitate the real time observation of vector polarization changes smaller than 10
−6 in a search for an electric dipole moment using a storage ring.
In order to reconstruct γγ physics events tagged with High Energy Tagger (HET) in the KLOE-2 (K LOng Experiment 2), we need to measure the Time Of Flight (TOF) of the electrons and positrons from the ...KLOE-2 Interaction Point (IP) to our tagging stations (11m apart). The required resolution must be better than the bunch spacing (2.7ns). We have developed and implemented on a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA a Time to Digital Converter (TDC) with 625ps resolution (LSB) along with an embedded data acquisition system and the interface to the online FARM of KLOE-2. We will describe briefly the architecture of the TDC and of the Data AcQuisition (DAQ) system. Some more details will be provided about the zero-suppression algorithm used to reduce the data throughput.
