La instrumentación de las superficies radiculares en pacientes portadores de brackets es compleja e inefectiva al 100%, además no es agradable para el paciente, lo que en la mayoría de los casos hace que el paciente no acuda con la periodicidad necesaria pautada por el periodoncista para realizar esa eliminación del biofilm oral. Por ello, existen nuevas técnicas menos invasivas y de mayor confort para el paciente a base de un polvo descontaminante de partícula muy fina, 14 micras, con eritritol y clorhexidina aplicado mediante aeropulidor que no resulta lesiva para las superficies dentales ni la mucosa oral. El objetivo es comprobar en una muestra de 100 paciente, mediante un estudio empírico aleatorizado, si realmente la aplicación del polvo de eritritol con clorhexidina mediante aeropulidor, aplicado en los pacientes portadores de brackets con enfermedad periodontal, puede sustituir la instrumentación con ultrasonidos y curetas gracey en los tratamientos de mantenimiento periodontal y aumentar la sensación de confort del paciente.

En este trabajo se presenta una propuesta didáctica destinada a favorecer el acercamiento de los alumnos a una de las técnicas más habituales empleadas para el estudio de las rocas, sedimentos y ...minerales: la microscopía de luz polarizada. Para conseguir este objetivo, se proporciona a los alumnos un mínimo de conocimientos teóricos que les permite trabajar en grupos notablemente autónomos e identificar algunos de los componentes más frecuentes en distintos tipos de rocas y sedimentos. Con esta actividad, se familiariza a los estudiantes con algunas de las propiedades empleadas en microscopía óptica y con las propiedades de los propios componentes rocosos, y se proporcionan unas herramientas que facilitan el acercamiento a esta faceta del trabajo científico.
Grape byproducts are rich sources of polyphenols with powerful antioxidant and health-promoting effects. The impact of supplementing chicken diets with grape byproducts on plasma and thigh meat ...concentrations of phenolic metabolites was evaluated by analyzing samples by high-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry. Chickens were fed three experimental diets: Control diet, Control+8% grape pomace, and Control+0.1% grape seed extract. In plasma, 32 phenolic metabolites were identified, some of which were conjugated catechin/epicatechin metabolites exclusively identified in chickens fed diets enriched in grape byproducts. Also, these chickens showed significantly higher plasmatic concentrations of 21 phenolic metabolites. In thigh meat, 14 phenolic metabolites were identified, but no differences were found between diets. Higher plasmatic tocopherol was found when supplementing diets with grape byproducts, while no changes were observed in meat. Thus, supplementing chicken diets with grape byproducts leads to a significant increase in the circulation of phenolic metabolites and tocopherol.
The feasibility of the use of WHO impregnated paper and biochemical assays to determine lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC99) and insecticide metabolic enzyme levels of Triatoma dimidiata.
LC50 and ...LC99 were calculated with WHO papers impregnated at different concentrations of malathion, propoxur and deltamethrin; the percentage of insensitive acetylcholinesterase (iAChE); and the levels of esterases, glutathione S-transferases, and monooxygenases in laboratory nymphs of the first stage (5 to 7 days), were undertaken using the WHO biochemical assays.
Respectively the LC50 and LC99 μg/cm2 obtained for malathion were 43.83 and 114.38, propoxur 4.71 and 19.29, and deltamethrin 5.80 and 40.46. A 30% of the population had an iAChE, and only a few individuals had high P450 and β-eterase levels.
Impregnated papers and biochemical tests developed by WHO for other insects, proved to be feasible methods in monitoring insecticide resistance and metabolic enzymes involved in T. dimidiata.
