V prispevku se posvečamo študiji, ki predstavlja uporabniško izkušnjo in odnos študentov prevajalstva na Univerzi v Ljubljani do jezikovnih virov in prevajalskih pripomočkov, saj se v času ...informacijske družbe od bodočih prevajalcev pričakuje, da so v kar največji meri digitalno osveščeni, predvsem pa seznanjeni z relevantnimi viri informacij. Študija se v prvem delu osredotoča na odnos študentov do angleških in slovenskih jezikovnih virov in na strategije reševanja prevajalskih zagat pri prevajanju kolokacij ter rabo različnih relevantnih jezikovnih virov. Raziskava je v drugem delu osredinjena na opazovanje prevajalskega procesa in rabo Kolokacijskega slovarja sodobne slovenščine (KSSS) pri prevajanju izbranih kolokacij iz angleščine v slovenščino. Rezultati študije so pokazali, da se študenti zavedajo prednosti reševanja prevodnih težav s pomočjo relevantnih jezikovnih virov, saj se je strategija vključevanja kolokacijskega slovarja v prevajalski proces izkazala za relativno uspešno. Vendar pa je obenem pokazala, da je že v času študija nujno dodatno osveščati študente o naprednih funkcijah tega jezikovnega vira, predvsem pa spodbujati iskanje po relevantnih virih in kritično ovrednotenje najdenih informacij z zavedanjem, da je v prevajalskem procesu nujno poiskati takšne prevodne rešitve, ki so v danem kontekstu najustreznejše.
Background: In recent years, biofeedback has become increasingly popular for its proven success in peak performance training - the psychophysiological preparation of athletes for high-stakes sport ...competitions, such as the Olympic games. The aim of this research was to test whether an 8-week period of exposure to biofeedback training could improve the psychophysiological control over competitive anxiety and enhance athletic performance in participating subjects. Methods: Participants of this study were highly competent athletes, each training in different sport disciplines. The experimental group consisted of 18 athletes (4 women, 14 men), whereas the Control group had 21 athletes (4 women, 17 men). All athletes were between 16 and 34 years old. The biofeedback device, Nexus 10, was used to detect and measure the psychophysiological responses of athletes. Athletes from both groups (control and experimental) were subjected to stress tests at the beginning of the study and once again at its conclusion. In between, the experimental group received training in biofeedback techniques. We then calculated the overall percentage of athletes in the experimental group compared with those in the control group who were able to control respiration, skin conductance, heart rate, blood flow amplitude, heart rate variability, and heart respiration coherence. One year following completion of the initial study, we questioned athletes from the experimental group, to determine whether they continued to use these skills and if they could detect any subsequent enhancement in their athletic performance. Results: We demonstrated that a greater number of participants in the experimental group were able to successfully control their psychophysiological parameters, in comparison to their peers in the control group. Significant results (p < 0.05) were noted in regulation of GSR following short stress test conditions (p = 0.037), in regulation of HR after exposure to STROOP stressor (p = 0.037), in regulation of GSR following the Math and GSR stressors (p = 0.033, p = 0.409) and in achieving HR - breathing coherence following the math stressor (p = 0.042). Conclusion: One year following completion of the training program, all participants from the experimental group indicated that they were still using the biofeedback - psycho-regulation skills. Furthermore, these participants uniformly reported believing that these skills had enhanced their athletic performance and general well-being.
ABSTRACT
Introduction: Single fiber electromyography (SFEMG) is the most sensitive diagnostic tool for diagnosis of myasthenia gravis (MG). Its prognostic value is not known. Methods: We ...retrospectively analyzed the clinical course of 232 MG patients who presented with only mild symptoms and had SFEMG of the orbicularis oculi muscle. We correlated their SFEMG results with the severity of their later clinical course. Results: During the observation period 39 patients (17%) developed severe disease exacerbations, and 193 (83%) remained stable. Patients with severe disease exacerbation had a significantly higher mean jitter value (P < 0.0001), a greater percentage of fibers with increased jitter (P < 0.0001), and/or impulse blocking (P < 0.0001) on SFEMG. Purpose
Aerobic training accelerates Heart Rate Recovery after exercise in healthy subjects and in patients with coronary disease. As shown by pharmacological autonomic blockade, HRR early after ...exercise is dependent primarily on parasympathetic reactivation. Thus, accelerated HRR early after exercise in endurance-trained athletes may be attributed to augmented parasympathetic reactivation. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that the HRR early after submaximal exercise is related to the pre-exercise parasympathetic modulation.
Methods
Thirty endurance-trained athletes (20 males, 50 ± 7 years) and thirty control subjects (20 males, 52 ± 6 years) performed a submaximal exercise on a cyclo-ergometer. Pre-exercise resting short-term heart rate variability (HRV) parameters in time and frequency-domains were correlated with HRR during the first 30 s, 1 and 2 min after cessation of exercise.
Results
We found that HRR was statistically significantly faster in athletes than in controls at all examination time points (
p
< 0.05). HF, SDNN and RMSSD were statistically significantly higher in athletes than in controls (
p
< 0.05), but other resting HRV parameters were not statistically different between groups. After 30 s, 1 and 2 min of recovery, HRR correlation with total power, HF, HFnu and RMSSD was positive, while the correlation with LF/HF was negative for small and positive for larger values. The opposite was true for SDNN.
Conclusions
These findings support the hypothesis that HRR early after submaximal exercise is related to resting parasympathetic modulation in the middle-aged subjects. In addition, they suggested an optimal range of HRV for maximal HRR after exercise.
Protocols for the assessment of postural tachycardia differ in both type of orthostatic challenge and test duration. We therefore compared heart rate (HR) and blood pressure responses during an ...active standing test (AST) and a head-up tilt test (HUT) in 34 patients with orthostatic intolerance and 31 asymptomatic subjects. A subset also performed 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). HR responses were similar between AST and HUT both in asymptomatic and in orthostatic intolerant subjects. Specificity of HR increase ≥30 bpm for orthostatic intolerance was high (above 0.85) with both AST and HUT and was similar at 3 minutes and at 9 minutes. HR changes recorded during self-performed AST (in the context of 24-h ABPM) and circadian HR difference corresponded well to changes recorded during AST in the autonomic laboratory. We conclude that AST and HUT are comparable methods for the assessment of postural tachycardia, that 3-min and 9-min tests are appropriate, and that ABPM is a useful ancillary test in the assessment of orthostatic responses.
Paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD) with anti-Yo antibodies is almost always associated with ovarian and breast cancer. We describe a man with anti-Yo-positive PCD and gastric ...adenocarcinoma. The tumor cells were labeled with anti-Yo antibodies by immunohistochemistry. High serum titers of anti-Yo antibodies were found before surgery and decreased 6 months after resection of the tumor. The expression of Yo antigens by the tumor and the decrease in anti-Yo antibody titers after its removal suggest that the immune response against the Purkinje cells of the cerebellum was triggered by the tumor.
