Garnet-type solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) are very promising due to their high ionic conductivities at room temperature and high stability against Li metal. However, the poor garnet/Li interfacial ...contact caused by Li2CO3 surface contaminant can lead to lithium dendrite growth and the performance decay of solid-state batteries (SSBs), which still hinders their practical application. Herein, a universal and simple method of rapid acid treatment is proposed to perfectly remove the surface Li2CO3 and retrieve a lithiophilic SSE surface. The SSE/Li interfacial resistance dramatically decreases from 940 Ω cm2 to 26 Ω cm2 at 30 °C. The acid treated garnet-SSE pellets exhibit an interfacial resistance comparable to the pellets with various surface coatings. In addition, the intrinsic garnet/Li interface remains stable during cycling, which enables the Li symmetric cells continuously cycle over 700 h under 0.2 mA cm−2 at 30 °C. And the LiFePO4/Li and LiCoO2/Li cells with acid treated garnet-SSE show excellent cycle and rate performances after eliminating the surface contaminant. These results indicate that rapid acid treatment not only guides a new understanding for an intrinsic garnet/Li interface but also is a simple and high-efficiency strategy to well address the interfacial issue for SSBs.

A dual-emission ratio-fluorescent sensing nanohybrid based on Radix Hedysari green-synthesized carbon quantum dots (CDs) and glutathione-functionalized gold nanoclusters (GSH-AuNCs) had been ...developed for the determination of cefodizime sodium (CDZM). The designed fluorescence nanohybrid had two significant fluorescence emission peaks at 458 nm and 569 nm when excited at 360 nm, which was attributed to the CDs and GSH-AuNCs. With the addition of CDZM, the fluorescence at 458 nm was slightly weakened while the fluorescence at 569 nm was enhanced obviously. Based on the relationship between the I569/I458 fluorescence intensity ratio and the concentration of CDZM, the designed nanohybrid exhibited a good linearity range of 1.0–1000.0 μM and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.19 μM. The method was finally applied in the detection of CDZM in urine, showing the potential applications in complicated biological samples.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are approximately 22-nt small non-coding regulatory RNAs that have generally been considered to regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level in the cytoplasm. ...However, recent studies have reported that some miRNAs localize to and function in the nucleus.
To determine the number of miRNAs localized to the nucleus, we systematically investigated the subcellular distribution of small RNAs (sRNAs) by independent deep sequencing sequenced of the nuclear and cytoplasmic pools of 18- to 30-nucleotide sRNAs from human cells. We identified 339 nuclear and 324 cytoplasmic known miRNAs, 300 of which overlap, suggesting that the majority of miRNAs are imported into the nucleus. With the exception of a few miRNAs evidently enriched in the nuclear pool, such as the mir-29b, the ratio of miRNA abundances in the nuclear fraction versus in the cytoplasmic fraction vary to some extent. Moreover, our results revealed that a large number of tRNA 3' trailers are exported from the nucleus and accumulate in the cytoplasm. These tRNA 3' trailers accumulate in a variety of cell types, implying that the biogenesis of tRNA 3' trailers is conserved and that they have a potential functional role in vertebrate cells.
Our results provide the first comprehensive view of the subcellular distribution of diverse sRNAs and new insights into the roles of miRNAs and tRNA 3' trailers in the cell.
This paper introduces a novel polarization-mixing strategy to significantly widen the beamwidth of dual-linear-polarized antenna arrays without changing the array topology. Instead of using the two ...polarizations separately as usual, it blends the orthogonal linearly-polarized radiations to achieve wider beamwidth. The proposed method is implemented on a typical ±45°-polarized base station antenna array with its thought process and working mechanism elaborated. Much wider beamwidth is achieved compared to the traditional pattern synthesis methods based on amplitude and phase weighting or sparse arrays. The beamwidth can be controlled by simply tuning one phase shifter. Importantly, this method allows all the elements to be fully excited with the same amplitude, thus avoiding using additional amplifiers or attenuators. In the meantime, the polarization-mixing method leads to spatially-variable polarizations (SVP). To obtain polarization diversity required in cellular communication systems, two SVP arrays with the same pattern shapes are designed to have their polarizations orthogonal to each other in all directions of interest. The conditions of achieving orthogonal patterns using this method are theoretically derived and thoroughly validated in theory and in simulation. It is shown that the obtained spatially-variable-orthogonal-polarization (SVOP) arrays have a much broader beam pattern and better polarization orthogonality (PO) than that of the dual-polarized antenna element.
Diabetic foot wound healing is a major clinical problem due to impaired angiogenesis and bacterial infection. Therefore, an effective regenerative dressing is desiderated with the function of ...promoting revascularization and anti-bacteria. Herein, a multifunctional injectable composite hydrogel was prepared by incorporation of the cerium-containing bioactive glass (Ce-BG) into Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel. The Ce-BG was synthesized by combining sol-gel method with template method, which maintained spherical shape, chemical structure and phase constitution of bioactive glass (BG). The Ce-BG/GelMA hydrogels had good cytocompatibility, promoted endothelial cells migration and tube formation by releasing Si ion. In vitro antibacterial tests showed that 5 mol % CeO
-containing bioactive glass/GelMA (5/G) composite hydrogel exhibited excellent antibacterial properties. In vivo study demonstrated that the 5/G hydrogel could significantly improve wound healing in diabetic rats by accelerating the formation of granulation tissue, collagen deposition and angiogenesis. All in all, these results indicate that the 5/G hydrogel could enhance diabetic wound healing. Therefore, the development of multifunctional materials with antibacterial and angiogenic functions is of great significance to promote the repair of diabetic wound healing.
Sesquiterpenes are one of the most diverse groups of secondary metabolites that have mainly been observed in terpenoids. It is a natural terpene containing 15 carbon atoms in the molecule and three ...isoprene units with chain, ring, and other skeleton structures. Sesquiterpenes have been shown to display multiple biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-feedant, anti-microbial, anti-tumor, anti-malarial, and immunomodulatory properties; therefore, their therapeutic effects are essential. In order to overcome the problem of low-yielding sesquiterpene content in natural plants, regulating their biosynthetic pathways has become the focus of many researchers. In plant and microbial systems, many genetic engineering strategies have been used to elucidate biosynthetic pathways and high-level production of sesquiterpenes. Here, we will introduce the research progress and prospects of the biosynthesis of artemisinin, costunolide, parthenolide, and dendrobine. Furthermore, we explore the biosynthesis of dendrobine by evaluating whether the biosynthetic strategies of these sesquiterpene compounds can be applied to the formation of dendrobine and its intermediate compounds.

Several studies have reported a strong association between high plasma level of trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) and atherosclerosis development. However, the exact mechanism underlying this correlation ...is unknown. In the present study, we try to explore the impact of TMAO on endothelial dysfunction. After TMAO treatment, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) showed significant impairment in cellular proliferation and HUVECs-extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesion compared with control. Likewise, TMAO markedly suppressed HUVECs migration in transwell migration assay and wound healing assay. In addition, we found TMAO up-regulated vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) expression, promoted monocyte adherence, activated protein kinase C (PKC) and p-NF-κB. Interestingly, TMAO-stimulated VCAM-1 expression and monocyte adherence were diminished by PKC inhibitor. These results demonstrate that TMAO promotes early pathological process of atherosclerosis by accelerating endothelial dysfunction, including decreasing endothelial self-repair and increasing monocyte adhesion. Furthermore, TMAO-induced monocyte adhesion is partly attributable to activation of PKC/NF-κB/VCAM-1.
Mobile crowd sensing is an innovative paradigm which leverages the crowd, i.e., a large group of people with their mobile devices, to sense various information in the physical world. With the help of ...sensed information, many tasks can be fulfilled in an efficient manner, such as environment monitoring, traffic prediction, and indoor localization. Task and participant matching is an important issue in mobile crowd sensing, because it determines the quality and efficiency of a mobile crowd sensing task. Hence, numerous matching strategies have been proposed in recent research work. This survey aims to provide an up-to-date view on this topic. We propose a research framework for the matching problem in this paper, including participant model, task model, and solution design. The participant model is made up of three kinds of participant characters, i.e., attributes, requirements, and supplements. The task models are separated according to application backgrounds and objective functions. Offline and online solutions in recent literatures are both discussed. Some open issues are introduced, including matching strategy for heterogeneous tasks, context-aware matching, online strategy, and leveraging historical data to finish new tasks.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in fatal damage and currently has no effective treatment. The pathological mechanisms of SCI remain unclear. In this study, genome-wide transcriptional profiling of ...spinal cord samples from injured rats at different time points after SCI was performed by RNA-Sequencing (RNA-Seq). The transcriptomes were systematically characterized to identify the critical genes and pathways that are involved in SCI pathology.
RNA-Seq results were obtained from total RNA harvested from the spinal cords of sham control rats and rats in the acute, subacute, and chronic phases of SCI (1 day, 6 days and 28 days after injury, respectively; n = 3 in every group). Compared with the sham-control group, the number of differentially expressed genes was 1797 in the acute phase (1223 upregulated and 574 downregulated), 6590 in the subacute phase (3460 upregulated and 3130 downregulated), and 3499 in the chronic phase (1866 upregulated and 1633 downregulated), with an adjusted P-value <0.05 by DESeq. Gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis showed that differentially expressed genes were most enriched in immune response, MHC protein complex, antigen processing and presentation, translation-related genes, structural constituent of ribosome, ion gated channel activity, small GTPase mediated signal transduction and cytokine and/or chemokine activity. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis showed that the most enriched pathways included ribosome, antigen processing and presentation, retrograde endocannabinoid signaling, axon guidance, dopaminergic synapses, glutamatergic synapses, GABAergic synapses, TNF, HIF-1, Toll-like receptor, NF-kappa B, NOD-like receptor, cAMP, calcium, oxytocin, Rap1, B cell receptor and chemokine signaling pathway.
This study has not only characterized changes in global gene expression through various stages of SCI progression in rats, but has also systematically identified the critical genes and signaling pathways in SCI pathology. These results will expand our understanding of the complex molecular mechanisms involved in SCI and provide a foundation for future studies of spinal cord tissue damage and repair. A versatile terpene synthase (LcTPS2) producing unconventional macrocyclic terpenoids was characterized from Leucosceptrum canum. Engineered Escherichia coli and Nicotiana benthamiana expressing ...LcTPS2 produced six 18‐/14‐membered sesterterpenoids including five new ones and two 14‐membered diterpenoids. These products represent the first macrocyclic sesterterpenoids from plants and the largest sesterterpenoid ring system identified to date. Two variants F516A and F516G producing approximately 3.3‐ and 2.5‐fold, respectively, more sesterterpenoids than the wild‐type enzyme were engineered. Both 18‐ and 14‐membered ring sesterterpenoids displayed significant inhibitory activity on the IL‐2 and IFN‐γ production of T cells probably via inhibition of the MAPK pathway. The findings will contribute to the development of efficient biocatalysts to create bioactive macrocyclic sesterterpenoids, and also herald a new potential in the well‐trodden territory of plant terpenoid biosynthesis.
A cryptic plant terpene cyclase producing unconventional macrocyclic sesterterpenoids and diterpenoids was characterized from Leucosceptrum canum. Two variants producing more sesterterpenoids were engineered, and the immunosuppressive activity of these sesterterpenoids was found.
