This paper presents research that deals with the study of the motivation, satisfaction andloyalty of tourists visiting the city of Cordoba, Spain, a World Heritage Site. For this, the results of a ...studycarried out on tourists during their stay in the city are presented. The study identifies two motivationaldimensions in connection with the visit: one cultural and the other multi-motivational, which includes avariety of reasons such as gastronomy and pleasure-seeking. Additionally, also analysed in this research ishow the motivation for visiting the city leads to tourists having greater satisfaction with their visit and moreloyalty to that tourist destination.
Flamenco is a tourist product that can attract many visitors from around the world, and the city of Cordoba (Spain) has an important role in the origins of flamenco. This work studies whether the ...satisfaction of cultural tourists who visit the city can be influenced by cultural offers related to flamenco. To achieve this objective, fieldwork was carried out based on 709 surveys conducted in the most important flamenco "tablaos" (stages) of the city. The techniques of factorial analysis and linear adjustment were used. The results show that flamenco can be a product that complements the satisfaction of cultural tourists.
Several previous studies have proposed the segmentation of tourists based on their motivations, their sociodemographic profile and the characteristics of their trip. This study has focused on ...proposing a segmentation of tourists that uses a peer-to-peer accommodation (p2p) based on their motivations, socio-demographic profile and the characteristics of their trip. This investigation is based on the application of a questionnaire to a representative sample of visitors in the city of Córdoba and who choose a peer-to-peer accommodation. Factorial analysis has been used as a data reduction technique in order to find homogeneous groups from the point of view of the reasons for choosing "peer-to-peer" tourism. The results confirm the existence of four types of p2p tourists clearly differentiated according to the motivations that have led them to choose this type of accommodation. The study shows the profile and preferences relative to the characteristics of the trip for each of the segments detected. Likewise, a high degree of fidelity towards the p2p accommodation modality was detected in the respondents—seven out of ten choose collaborative accommodation.
The main objective of this paper is the analysis of the relationship between two important factors in the decision making process of a tourist when choosing a destination: motivation and ...satisfaction. This research is done in a wetland protected area named Santay Island located in Ecuador. The results show evidence that there are two motivational dimensions to visit the place: an Ecological-Hedonic and a Social-Gastronomic motivation. The first dimension is the most important, which is a very common fact in these types of destinations. Both dimensions discriminate each other in the degree of satisfaction perceived by the visitors. The analysis of the motivations allows identifying three different typologies of visitors that are of great importance to segment the market in order to consolidate Santay Island as a wetland ecotourism destination: The eco-social-hedonic tourist, the eco-hedonic tourist and the social tourist. The conclusions highlight the need of considering the motivational profile of the satisfied tourist as managerial instrument to the community of Santay in order to help them obtain better profits, not only economic, but social and cultural benefits.
•Tourism and wetlands have a complex and deep relationship.•Santay Island is a Ramsar Site of International Importance and the homeland of five species of existing mangroves in Ecuador.•There are three different typologies of visitors.•The results indicate that tourists found great satisfaction and enjoyed the visit to Santay Island.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to conduct an analysis of the relationships existing among three basic constructs in the visitor’s decision-making process (motivation and satisfaction) in a ...tourist destination that is a World Heritage Site, such as the city of Cordoba (Spain). Bearing in mind the perception of heritage by the foreign visitors, the following four types were determined: alternative tourists, cultural tourists, emotional tourists and heritage tourists.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses the multivariate technique of grouping cases (K-means clusters) to analyse the similarity existing among the surveyed persons. From the groups or segments obtained, statistics and measurements of association were applied that provide the information necessary to study the possible trends of association existing between variables from a table of bidimensional contingencies. In the same way, non-parametric statistical procedures were used (Kruskal–Wallis H test and the Mann–Whitney U test).
Findings
The results show the existence of four diverse motivational dimensions among the foreign tourists to visit it: hedonic, cultural, convenience and circumstantial. Of the four dimensions, the hedonic and the cultural are the most relevant. The results show the existence of a common cultural identity: the Arabic cultural identity.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to complete the academic literature existing on the links of the tourist with the historical and monumental heritage that he visits, and with the tourist’s behaviour.
The objective of this study is to analyse the impact of perceived risk on intention to travel in the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Applying the Theory of Planned Behaviour, the study addresses the ...modulating effects of risk on the antecedents of intention; additionally, the resulting model includes the impact of this intention on the willingness to pay (WTP) more to benefit from additional safety measures at the destination. Furthermore, this paper addresses respondents belonging to an at-risk group for Covid-19 as a source of heterogeneity that may exert an effect on the results of the model. The model is tested using PLS-SEM, and the empirical results can contribute to the development of safety measures in tourism services and the design of effective actions to restore tourism.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the existing relations between three fundamental constructs (motivation and satisfaction) and the type of travellers in a World Heritage Site (WHS) ...tourist destination, the city of Cuenca (Ecuador).Design/methodology/approachThe methodology used consisted of a fieldwork to determine the motivations and satisfaction of the visitor in the city of Cuenca, and then their segmentation.FindingsThe relationship between the study of motivation and satisfaction is a fundamental element in the development of WHSs. Similarly, it presents four different types of tourists obtained from their motivational variables. The results show the existence of three motivational dimensions for visiting Cuenca: cultural, circumstantial and convenience. Similarly, and using the motivation scenarios, four types of visitor have been identified: a cultural tourist, a cultural convenience tourist, a cultural circumstantial tourist and an alternative tourist.Practical implicationsThe principal practical application of this research is to contribute to understanding the motivations of the visitors in relation to the city of Cuenca as a WHS for the purpose of designing tourist and cultural products that better satisfy the needs of the tourists and that, at the same time, are compatible with the sustainable management of the destination.Originality/valueThis paper seeks to contribute to promoting the relationship between tourism, sustainability and heritage in Latin America.
Self-employment has now become one of the most important access routes to the labor market in emerging economies. In these countries, the role of women entrepreneurs is fundamental not only for their ...economic development but also to fight against the gender gap. The university, as an institution, is a hub of potential entrepreneurs, which could help reduce these differences. This work explores if there is a gender gap in the inclination towards entrepreneurship among university students from a developing country (Ecuador) and the determining factors of entrepreneurial intention by gender. Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, the study analyzes the moderating role of gender in university entrepreneurship. Multivariate logit regression was used to examine motivational factors (personal attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control) that favor entrepreneurial intention. The data reveals that entrepreneurial intention is lower among female students. The determinants of entrepreneurial intention are different by gender. The study contributes to a better understanding of the role of gender in entrepreneurial behavior.
In this article we propose a model of recommendation of experimental protocols based on the user's context of use. As a case study, 107 experiments related to 5 experimental protocols of the soil ...mechanics laboratory testsofthe Civil Engineering in the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards are analyzed. Starting from the formal specification of the experimental protocol, a representation model is proposed. This model allows to describe the entities that converge in this scientific product, contributing to the formalization of the experimental protocol in a domain of knowledge that has been little explored from this perspective. With the previous result, a recommendation model is presented. This model takes advantage of the concept ofthe context of use to highlight within the experimental protocol, the entities that characterize the context in which a user performs a new experiment, reproduces, repeats or audits previously performed experiments. This also contributes to considering the recommendation of this type of products that is not yet visible in the repositories of experimental protocols explored in this research. With two previous models, a software prototype is built and using test cases, the representation model and the recommendation model are validated with satisfactory results in a content-based strategy to achieve a recommendation to the user.
