Flamenco is a living art that excites and awakens the senses of those who witness such a dance, singing and guitar show. It is a way of expressing feelings. Flamenco was considered a world intangible ...heritage of humanity by UNESCO and is a part of the identity and culture of Andalucía, place where it originated. Flamenco is a symbol of Spanish culture around the world. In addition, it has been discovered that there is a typology of flamenco tourists whose motivation is related to the search of experience and authenticity in the tourist destination. A search of published scientific articles on emotional tourism, motivation and flamenco has been conducted using three databases: Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. Flamenco is an art that transmits passion in each of its three components: song, dance and music. Therefore, tourism management of the sites where flamenco is part of its identity must bet on its development and potential as a motivating factor to travel, bringing the emotion to the tourist, which consists not only in perceiving it, but also in experiencing it, living it. We conclude that Flamenco as a living art forms an essential part of Spain’s cultural heritage and becomes an important tourist factor to cover the experiential needs of tourists.

This paper presents a fieldwork-based analysis on the sociodemographic characteristics, travel arrangements, motivations and travel experience evaluation of tourists visiting Quito, Ecuador. The ...results of this research show differences in the profile of tourists in terms of travel arrangements, their motivation and their evaluation of the destination, based on tourists’ geographical origin. The main practical implication of this research is to better understand the characteristics of tourists who visit Quito, with the purpose of designing cultural and touristic products that meet the needs of different groups of travelers.
Self-employment has now become one of the most important access routes to the labor market in emerging economies. In these countries, the role of women entrepreneurs is fundamental not only for their ...economic development but also to fight against the gender gap. The university, as an institution, is a hub of potential entrepreneurs, which could help reduce these differences. This work explores if there is a gender gap in the inclination towards entrepreneurship among university students from a developing country (Ecuador) and the determining factors of entrepreneurial intention by gender. Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, the study analyzes the moderating role of gender in university entrepreneurship. Multivariate logit regression was used to examine motivational factors (personal attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control) that favor entrepreneurial intention. The data reveals that entrepreneurial intention is lower among female students. The determinants of entrepreneurial intention are different by gender. The study contributes to a better understanding of the role of gender in entrepreneurial behavior.
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) antiviral therapy might lead to decreased chronic immune activation and endothelial dysfunction associated with cardiovascular risk. The aim was to evaluate the effect of HCV ...eradication on serum markers of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction markers in HIV/HCV co-infected patients.
We carried out a retrospective study of 69 HIV/HCV co-infected patients on interferon (IFN)-α plus ribavirin. In addition, 47 HIV-infected subjects were selected as a control group. A sustained virological response (SVR) was defined as an undetectable HCV viral load up to 24 weeks after the end of treatment. Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-1 (TNF-R1), soluble E-selectin (sE-selectin), soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (sICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (sVCAM-1) were measured using a multiplex immunoassay kit.
HIV/HCV co-infected patients had higher values of soluble TNF-R1 (sTNF-R1), sE-selectin and sICAM-1 than HIV mono-infected patients (P < 0.05). SVR patients had a decrease in sTNF-R1, sP-selectin, sE-selectin and sICAM-1 during anti-HCV treatment (P < 0.05) and, at the end of treatment, SVR patients had lower values of sTNF-R1, sE-selectin and sVCAM-1 than non-responder patients (P < 0.05), although the values of sTNF-R1, sP-selectin, sE-selectin and sICAM-1 remained higher than in HIV mono-infected patients (P < 0.05). Moreover, we found a significant positive relationship between an increase in sTNF-R1 and increases in sP-selectin, sE-selectin and sICAM-1 during anti-HCV therapy.
Chronic hepatitis C infection induces alterations of markers of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. Eradication of HCV, following IFN-α and ribavirin therapy, reduces immune activation as well as markers of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction.
We performed a cross-sectional study in 469 HIV-infected patients, whose mitochondrial haplogroups were genotyped to study their association with the clinical pattern of AIDS progression. The chance ...of not having an AIDS progression was 1.45 95% of confidence interval (CI) = 1.02 to 2.05, P = 0.035) times greater in patients with cluster HV and 1.51 (95% CI = 1.06 to 2.18, P = 0.021) times greater in patients with haplogroup H. However, we only found significant values for haplogroup H (odds ratio = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.01 to 2.32, P = 0.049) in an ordinal logistic regression adjusted by gender, age at HIV infection, intravenous drug users, and hepatitis C virus infection. These data suggest that mitochondrial haplogroups might play a significant role in AIDS progression.
This type of tourism allows for greater contact with
the community and getting new experiences for travelers. This paper presents the results of a field
study performed at Santay Island (Ecuador). ...Surveys were applied to a sample of 1046 people, resulting in 1002 valid, in order to have a knowledge of the socio-demographic profile of people touring the isle,
the aspects related to the trip such as the place of overnight stay, repetition of the visit, sources of
information to visit the place and their degree of satisfaction declared after the visit. Statistical techniques
were used to evaluate the parametric properties of the applied instrument, including the variances
equality statistic (Levene) and the robustness test of means of equality (Brown-Forsythe), then a
statistical model to analyze the variance (ANOVA) to compare groups of quantitative variables. The
results show that both the place of origin of the tourists and the number of visits to the destination are
contributing factors to the condition of tourist satisfaction. The obtained results also justify the need to
evaluate the management policies implemented so far, considering the fact that Santay Island is to
become a suggested natural tourism destination.
