To evaluate the changes in voiding symptoms in female patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) undergoing transvaginal sling techniques over a five-year period in the Department of Urology at ...the University Hospital of Albacete.
Between November 2001 and December 2005 126 patients with SUI (mean age 57.09 years; 36-78) underwent transvaginal sling techniques (Sling in Fast, TVK TOT). All patients were evaluated clinically and urodynamically.
Average body mass index (BMI) was 28.14 kg/m2 (SD 4.66; 95% CI: 27.32-28.96). 92 patients (73%) presented between 2-4 previous pregnancies. 99 patients (80.9%) have had birth labour between 2 and 4 times. All of them were vaginal birth labours except 12 cases (9.5%) in which caesarean section had been performed. Daytime voiding frequency after surgery was over 120 minutes in 112 patients (88.9%). Night-time voiding frequency was equal or less than twice in 110 patients (87.3%). 104 patients (82.5%) presented at least two leaking episodes per day, and 105 patients (83.3%) needed to wear one pad per day or less during the last week before follow-up visit. The number of urinary leak episodes per day diminished in 114 patients (90.5%) with a mean decrease of 9.65 episodes (95% CI: 8.56-10.79) (p < 0.0001). Ninety-four patients (76.4%) were completely dry.
Development of new surgical techniques for the treatment of SUI have improved results and diminished the number of complications, an expression of which is the favourable evolution of voiding changes after surgery.
Introduction: Loss of Heterozygocity (LOH) in the short arm of human
chromosome 3 (3p) is a frequent event in different types of sporadic
tumors, including lung cancer (LC). Aim: To determine 3p LOH ...in LC
samples using 17 microsatellite markers. Methodology: In a pilot
study on volunteers, thirteen LC biopsies (tumor tissue) and 4 ml of
blood (normal tissue) from the same patient were collected. DNA
extraction and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) were performed with 17
microsatellite markers to analyze LOH. Amplified fragments were run on
6% denaturalizing polyacrilamide gels and were visualized by using
silver stain. Descriptive analysis was performed for each region on the
3p chromosome. Results: All tumors were informative for one or more
of the analyzed markers. LOH was found in one or more loci in eleven
samples (84.6%). The markers with major LOH were UBE1L (23.1%),
D3S1317, D3S1300, D3S1284, D3S1274, D3S3049, and D3S1577 (15.4%). Three
samples showed microsatellite instability (changes in the length of the
microsatellite) in different loci. The percentages of LOH for the
regions of 3p were: 17.6 % for 3p24-25, 11.62% for 3p21-22, 20% for
3p13-14, and 18.42% for the 3p12 region. Conclusions: Chromosomal
regions with allelic loss were identified where probably other GSTs
involved in the development of the LC are localized. It should
increases sample size and marker number in order to narrow a minimal
region and to identify a unknown gene involved in LC.
One of the sources of information to detect the level of customer satisfaction is the set of reviews they leave on websites such as Trip Advisor. A problem arises when there is a large number of ...reviews and administrators have difficulty identifying those that reflect the client's feelings from the reviews. For this study, some applications generated in the Python programming language were used in order to assign an excellent and bad criterion by adding a feeling textually. The Sentistrength classifier was also used, which analyzes text to return a value of positive or negative sentiment; these two contexts were used mathematically and statistically to obtain referential data based on an analysis of the ROC curve with values of true positives and true negatives as well as false positives and false negatives.
Provider: - Institution: Gredos. Repositorio Documental de la Universidad de Salamanca - Data provided by Europeana Collections- This paper presents the preliminary results of the excavation of the ...Valmayor XI rock shelter, in the context of the research project ‘The pathways of the Neolithic’. Through the analysis of the radiocarbon dates and a detailed stratigraphic interpretation three occupations have been established with chronologies within different periods of the vith millennium cal bc. A general description of the archaeological events documented in each phase, and of most of the recovered material –pottery, lithic artefacts, bone industry and ornaments, faunal and carpological remains– is offered. Moreover, in the light of the new dates presented, a review of the Neolithisation process in the Lower Aragón region, and also in the Ebro valley, is proposed. Also the identification of archaeological sites as Neolithic ones only on the basis of the presence of some elements considered as ‘Neolithic markers’, without any consideration of the subsistence strategies or territorial exploitation, is questioned.- Este trabajo presenta los resultados preliminares obtenidos en la excavación del Cingle de Valmayor XI, desarrollada dentro del proyecto de investigación ‘Los caminos del Neolítico’. All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. The BRAF V600E mutation has been described in melanomas occurring in the Caucasian, European, and Asian populations. However, in the Mexican population, the status and clinical significance of BRAF ...mutation has not been researched on a large scale.
Consecutive BRAF-tested Mexican patients with metastatic melanoma (n = 127) were analyzed for mutations in exon 15 of the BRAF gene in genomic DNA by real-time polymerase chain reaction technology for amplification and detection. The results were correlated with the clinical-pathologic features and the prognosis of the patients.
The frequency of somatic mutation V600E within the BRAF gene was 54.6% (43 of 127 patients). Nodular melanoma was the most prevalent subtype in our population, with BRAF mutations in 37.2% (16 of 55 patients). In contrast, superficial spread had a frequency of 18.6% BRAF mutation (eight of 24). Other clinicopathologic features were assessed to correlate with the mutation status.
This study searched for the most prevalent BRAF V600E mutation type in melanoma in a heterogeneous population from Mexico. Nodular melanoma was found to be the most prevalent in metastatic presentation and the presence of BRAF V600E mutation, perhaps related to the mixed ancestry; in the north, ancestry is predominantly European and in the south, it is predominantly Asian. The outcomes of the mutation correlations were similar to those found in other populations.
The aim of the study was to analyze the behavior of the autonomous nervous system (ANS) during hemodialysis (HD) treatment with two ultrafiltration (UF) profiles: gradually decreasing UF rate and ...gradually decreasing UF rate. Spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) was used to estimate the mean power in the low frequency (LF) band and the high frequency (HF) band indexes. LF was larger than HF in all patients, which is consistent with a sympathetic nervous system activation response during HD. Although each patient responded differently to each UF profile, the mean values of all indexes from the whole group were similar between the two UF profiles.
