The conjugative self-transmissible plasmid pHT73, harbored in Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki, was demonstrated to be transferred to Cellulomonas flavigena, a cellulolytic bacterium. Both ...conjugation and transformation procedures yielded resistant colonies; however, chromosomal integration was observed only when bacterial conjugation occurred. The efficiency of conjugation was 10% of recipient strain, which is considered a very efficient process. When the plasmid pHT73 was introduced by transformation, erythromycin-resistant cells contained the plasmid as an episome with no arrangements, as assayed by Southern blot analysis. In contrast, conjugated-resistant cells harbor the plasmid integrated into the chromosome. These data suggest a common mechanism of cell communication between nonrelated bacterial species with similar ecological habitats, and also that both electroporation and conjugation can be used to transform C. flavigena efficiently.
Uncontrolled bleeding leads to 40-86% of preventable deaths due to trauma. Use of NovoSeven (rFVIIa) in trauma is promising, although data supporting its utilization are limited.
We report the case ...of a patient who sustained a penetrating grade V cardiac injury (AAST-OIS) and presented postoperative massive coagulopathic bleeding arrested by the administration of platelet pools and NovoSeven.
This report represents our initial experience and the very first case of successful use of NovoSeven for the treatment of traumatic coagulopathic hemorrhage at the Central Military Hospital in Mexico City. A further prospective trial justifying its use in our institution is warranted.
Resumen Introducción: Las indicaciones para hepatectomía laparoscópica son limitadas, generalmente tumores que miden menos de 5 cm. Entre estos, los tumores pequeños de menos de 4 cm del tipo nodular ...y los menores de 6 cm del tipo pedunculado son los que están dentro de las indicaciones más apropiadas. Reporte de caso: Aquí se reporta un caso de un paciente con una masa hepática secundaria a hiperplasia nodular focal que mide 8 cm en el segmento lateral izquierdo del hígado, en el cual se realizó tratamiento por medio de segmentectomía lateral izquierda (resección de los segmentos II y III), siendo la primera resección hepática reportada en el Hospital Central Militar. Conclusión: De acuerdo con las características del tumor y el tamaño, el objetivo en el tratamiento de la hiperplasia nodular focal es la durabilidad y la mínima invasión en el procedimiento. La hepatectomía laparoscópica en este caso fue benéfica para la calidad de vida y la recuperación del paciente.

Esta plaga es originaria del sudeste asiático y es altamente polífaga e invasiva, capaz de causar severos daños en brotes jóvenes, flores y frutos en desarrollo en diversos cultivos. Antes de este estudio no había registros de S. dorsalis causando afectaciones al cultivo de la vid en México. The presence of the chili thrips Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) affecting the foliage and fruit of grapevines (Vitis vinifera L.) var. ‘Sugar Crisp’, in the municipality of Tolimán, Jalisco, Mexico, is reported for the first time. This pest is native of Southeast Asia and very polyphagous and invasive, capable of causing severe damage to young shoots, flowers, and developing fruits of various crops. It is a recent introduction on the American continents. Before this study, there were no records of S. dorsalis causing damage to grapevines in Mexico.
Evidence strongly supports that to improve breastfeeding practices it is needed to strengthen actions of promotion, protection and support. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to establish a ...multisectoral national policy that includes elements such as design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and policies, funding research, advocacy to develop political willingness, and the promotion of breastfeeding from the national to municipal level, all coordinated by a central level. It is until now that Mexico has initiated a reform process to the establish a National Strategy for Breastfeeding Action. This strategy, is the result not only of the consistent scientific evidence on clear and strong benefits of breastfeeding on population health and the development of human capital, but also for the alarming data of deterioration of breastfeeding practices in the country. The comprehensive implementation of the National Strategy for Breastfeeding Action that includes the establishment of a national committee, intra- and inter-sectoral coordination of actions, setting clear goals and monitoring the International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes, is the awaiting responsibility of the public health agenda of the country.
