In case of failure, entrepreneurs could endure various financial, psychological, and social costs. These intertwined costs could affect their learning from failure. All individuals do not react in ...the same way when dealing with adversity. Rather than focusing on (negative) consequences of business failure, we took a more positive approach by using the Conservation of Resources (COR) model theory to build our conceptual model. Psychological capital, which refers to

could be considered as a resource to recover from entrepreneurial setbacks. We suggest that a high level of psychological capital plays a mediating role in the relationship between the negative consequences of failure and learning from failure. By learning from this experience, failed entrepreneurs will increase their intention to re-create a venture and pursue their entrepreneurial career. This theoretical research, by building a conceptual model based on resources, offers a more positive approach of entrepreneurial failure and investigates key psychological assets, such as psychological capital, that support the development of entrepreneurial resilience rather than the prevention of business failure.
Since 2016, the Brussels-Capital Region (BCR) has been committed to putting transition at the heart of its economic strategy. Among the promising economic models is the functional economy (FE), ...whereby the sale of the use of a product is substituted for the sale of the product itself. It has several virtues in terms of sustainability. By retaining ownership of goods, companies would be encouraged to choose sustainable products. Making the same product available to different users would limit the quantities produced. The FE also serves as a catalyst for the local presence of production and consumption systems. Yet, in BCR, the FE model remains little known, poorly understood and is having trouble unfolding. This article – which is the result of four years of research on the FE in BCR – has three objectives: 1) it provides an original overview of the current state of the FE in BCR and the diversity of needs which the FE could meet; 2) it analyses the institutional measures for supporting the FE in BCR; and 3) it questions the balance between the institutional measures for supporting a sustainable economy in BCR and the expansion of the FE in the region. This exploratory study shows that the FE still has only a marginal presence in institutional terms and in the economic fabric of Brussels. It would therefore seem appropriate to make more room for the FE model, by creating areas for economic stakeholders to experiment with the model and evaluate its effects in terms of sustainability, build a common vision and determine the directions for its expansion.

The viability of PSS models has been shown to be frequently jeopardized by low levels of consumer appeal and retention. Using Social Practice Theory (SPT) and the habitual practice approach, this ...paper posits that barriers to consumer adoption and retention of PSS offers are twofold: 1) generic to the PSS offers—that is, common to all sectors but playing differently from one sector to another and 2) sector-specific. The purpose of the paper is to study how routinization of habitual practices differently affects consumers’ propensity to change their consumption practices and to move towards PSS offers across sectors. To gain in-depth understanding of generic and sector-specific barriers and to distinguish between them, three sectors of PSS are analysed and compared: mobility, clothing and tooling. A quantitative and qualitative mixed methodology was used with consumers in the Brussels Region (Belgium). Two results emerge from the study. First, we confirm the existence of generic barriers to the adoption of PSS offers (e.g., not feeling like a target customer, flawed price representation, fear of unavailability of the product, not wanting to share the use of the product, dislike for subscription, or preference for ownership). Second, just as the relative weight of the barriers differs according to the sectors and there are specific obstacles to certain sectors (e.g., morphology in the clothing industry), we demonstrate that determinants of pleasure and determinants of consumption type (purchase or PSS) differ across cases. In addition, we discuss the fact that the type of payment (pay-per-use or subscription) and the related consumer engagement (requiring a change in established practice or not) have an impact on the perception and adoption of PSS offers by consumers.
Although entrepreneurial failure is perceived negatively by society, many researchers believe that it offers a real opportunity to learn. However, it is sometimes difficult to learn from failure due ...to the various financial, psychological and social costs. Through our conceptual model, we offer a more positive approach of entrepreneurial failure. We suggest that a high level of psychological capital plays a moderating role in the relationship between the negative consequences of failure and learning from failure. Then this learning and high psychological capital would help entrepreneurs who have failed to pursue their entrepreneurial career.
Bien que l’échec entrepreneurial soit perçu négativement dans la société, plusieurs chercheurs estiment qu’il offre une réelle opportunité d’apprentissage. Cependant, il est parfois difficile ...d’apprendre à partir d’un échec compte tenu des différents coûts financiers, psychologiques et sociaux qu’il occasionne. Au travers d’un modèle conceptuel, nous proposons un angle d’approche plus positif de l’échec entrepreneurial. Nous suggérons qu’un niveau de capital psychologique élevé joue un rôle modérateur dans la relation entre les conséquences négatives de l’échec et l’apprentissage à partir de l’échec. Cet apprentissage et ce capital psychologique élevé aideraient l’entrepreneur ayant échoué à poursuivre sa carrière entrepreneuriale.
