The aim of the study was to develop the Serbian language version of the Orofacial Esthetic Scale questionnaire (OES SERB) and to evaluate its psychometric properties.
The study included 226 subjects ...- 110 dental students and 116 patients (the validation sample). The students answered all the questions individually with the help of supervisors, whereas the prosthodontic patients were interviewed by the same trained dentist. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were assessed.
Internal consistency of the OES-SERB was considered satisfactory (Cronbach's alpha 0.92, inter-item correlation coefficient ranged between 0.735 and 0.898). The construct validity of the OES was proved using exploratory factor analysis, which confirmed the one- dimensional model of the OES-SERB that assumed 66.549% of the variance. The Bartlett's test of sphericity was 1380.134 (df = 28, p < 0.001) and the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test was 0.900. The total score was statistically significantly different between students and patients (p < 0.001), which confirmed the discriminant validity.
The Serbian version of the OES, adapted to the cultural setting of the Republic of Serbia, has exhibited excellent psychometric properties and has been confirmed as a one-dimensional tool for self-assessment of the appearance of the orofacial region.
The Serbian version of the OES has good psychometric properties and is a valuable instrument for self-assessment of the appearance of the orofacial region.
Species of

complex and
complex are predominant molds that are causative agents of otomycoses. The goal of this study was to investigate the clinical presentation, diagnostic procedure, and ...appearance of relapse in patients with
-otomycosis, as well as to determine the biofilm production ability of species isolated in relapse. Thirty patients with laboratory evidenced
-otomycosis followed by two check-ups (30 and 60 days after initiation of treatment with antimycotics for local application) were included in the study. For isolation and identification of
spp. the standard mycological procedure was applied. Results showed very high sensitivity of microscopy, but 16.7%
species required the optimal temperature of 27-28 °C for cultivation. Applied statistical cluster analysis showed a defined specific cluster/group of patients with
complex-otomycosis. Sixty days after diagnosis and treatment initiation, six patients had a relapse, with the same species of
genus being the cause. To establish the ability of biofilm production, the modified method described by Pierce and Kvasničková was performed, and all six species isolated in the relapse episode had the ability to produce biofilm. Official criteria and recommendations are needed due to the possibility of misdiagnosis, which leads to the prolongation and complication of the disease.
Background: Extra-abdominal manifestations of fat necrosis, like subcutaneous fat necrosis, polyarthritis, and polyserositis may appear with an occurrence rate of about 0.8%, wherein intraosseous fat ...necrosis is a more rare complication of pancreatitis, with few reports in English literature. Case report: A 34-year-old male with a 15-year-history of alcohol abuse was hospitalized several times in the last few years because of attacks of relapsed chronic pancreatitis. After the last attack, pancreatitis came in a stable state (“burned out”) with no symptoms and signs of the disease. The patient had been free of symptoms for 28 months since the last admission when he came with sub-febrile temperature, huge pain, swelling, and erythema in the area of the left lateral malleolar region with propagation in the foot. Blood biochemistry was normal. Conventional radiography showed multiple sites of osteolysis in the left calcaneus. Images on multislice computed tomography (MSCT) with 3D reconstruction revealed hypodense focuses that corresponded to osteonecrosis areas and bone marrow edema in the left calcaneus. Conclusions: The possibility of intraosseous fat necrosis should be considered in situations of unexplained polyarthritis or panniculitis, particularly in individuals with alcohol abuse or pancreatic disease.
Isolated splenic metastases from endometrial cancer, which is a relatively common malignancy, are extremely rare findings; to date, only 14 cases have been reported in the literature.
We report a ...patient with isolated splenic metastases of endometrial cancer 3 years after radical surgery of the primary tumor. The patient was successfully treated by splenectomy and six cycles of paclitaxel. Fifty months after splenectomy, she was alive and well, and with no evidence of disease.
Isolated spleen metastasis of endometrial cancer is very rare. Radical surgery and adjuvant therapy may offer excellent long-term survival.

}, as well as their ...hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity, was evaluated. In the screening hypoglycemic study,
rats with streptozotocin induced diabetes were treated intraperitoneally with three single doses (5, 10, and 20 mg per kg per b.w.) of both investigated polyoxotungstates. The blood glucose levels, measured before and after 2, 4 and 6 h polyoxotungstate application, showed that both studied compounds induced the most pronounced and time dependent glucose lowering effects at the doses of 20 mg kg
. Thus, daily doses of 20 mg kg
were administered to
rats orally for 14 days in further toxicity examinations. The serum glucose concentration and biochemical parameters of kidney and liver function, as well as a histopathological analysis of kidney and liver tissues were evaluated 14 days after the polyoxotungstate administration. Both investigated compounds did not induce statistically significant alterations of the serum glucose and uric acid concentrations, as well as some of the liver function markers (serum alanine and aspartate aminotransferases, and alkaline phosphatase activities). However, the significant decrease in serum total protein and albumin concentrations and the increase in biochemical parameters of renal function - serum urea (up to 63.1%) and creatinine concentrations (up to 23.3%) were observed for both polyoxotungstates. In addition, the detected biochemical changes were in accordance with kidney and liver histhopathological analysis. Accordingly, the hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic effects of these potential antidiabetic polyoxotungstates could be considered as mild.
Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) is a treatment option for well-differentiated, somatostatin receptor positive, unresectable or/and metastatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Although high ...disease control rates seen with PRRT a significant number NET patients have a short progression-free interval, and currently, there is a deficiency of effective biomarkers to pre-identify these patients. This study is aimed at determining the prognostic significance of biomarkers on survival of patients with NETs in initial PRRT treatment.
We retrospectively analyzed 51 patients with NETs treated with PRRT at the Department for nuclear medicine, University Clinical Center Kragujevac, Serbia, with a five-year follow-up. Eligible patients with confirmed inoperable NETs, were retrospectively evaluated hematological, blood-based inflammatory markers, biochemical markers and clinical characteristics on disease progression. In accordance with the progression og the disease, the patients were divided into two groups: progression group (n=18) and a non-progression group (n=33). Clinical data were compared between the two groups.
A total of 51 patients (Md=60, age 25-75 years) were treated with PRRT, of whom 29 (56.86%) demonstrated stable disease, 4 (7.84%) demonstrated a partial response, and 14 (27.46%) demonstrated progressive disease and death was recorded in 4 (7.84%) patients. The mean PFS was a 36.22 months (95% CI 30.14-42.29) and the mean OS was 44.68 months (95% CI 37.40-51.97). Univariate logistic regression analysis displayed that age (p<0.05), functional tumors (p<0.05), absolute neutrophil count (p<0.05), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio-NLR (p<0.05), C-reactive protein-CRP (p<0.05), CRP/Albumin (p<0.05), alanine aminotransferase-ALT (p<0.05), were risk factors for disease progression. Multivariate logistic regression analysis exhibited that functional tumors (p<0.001), age (p<0.05), CRP (p<0.05), and ALT (p<0.05), were independent risk factors for the disease progression in patients with NETs. Tumor functionality was the most powerful prognostic factor. The median PFS (11.86 ± 1.41 vs. 43.38 ± 3.16 months; p=0.001) and OS (21.81 ± 2.70 vs 53.86 ± 3.70, p=0.001) were significantly shorter in patients with functional than non-functional NETs respectively.
The study's results suggest that tumor functionality, and certain biomarkers may serve as prognostic survival indicators for patients with NETs undergoing PRRT. The findings can potentially help to identify patients who are at higher risk of disease progression and tailor treatment strategies accordingly.
Autoimmune cholangitis or immunoglobulin G4-associated cholangitis (IAC) has been recently regarded as a new clinical and histopathological entity and is a part of a complex autoimmune ...disorder--IgG4-related systemic disease (ISD). ISD is an autoimmune disease with multi-organic involvement, characterized with IgG4-positive plasmocytic infiltration of various tissues and organs with a consequent sclerosis, which responds well to steroid therapy. Most commonly affected organs are the pancreas (autoimmune pancreatitis, AIP) and the common bile duct (IAC). IAC and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) share many clinical, laboratory and imaging findings.
We present a case of a 60-year-old male with a biliary stricture of a common bile duct, which was clinically considered as a bile duct carcinoma and treated surgically. Definite histopathological findings and immunohistochemistry revealed profound chronic inflammation, showing lymphoplasmacytic IgG-positive infiltration of a resected part of a common bile duct, highly suggestive for the diagnosis of IAC. In addition, postoperative IgG4 serum levels were also increased.
It is of primary clinical importance to make a difference between IAC and CCA, in order to avoid unnecessary surgical intervention. Therefore, IAC should be considered in differential diagnosis in similar cases.
