Självkänsla är ett högaktuellt ämne i dagens samhälle, då självkänsla formas i tidig ålder är det viktigt att undersöka självkänslan i skolåldern för att kunna ta till åtgärder och för att kunna ...underlätta elevernas framtid då mycket grundar sig på självkänsla. Tidigare forskning har visat att det som allra mest ger självkänsla samt ett gott självförtroende hos de unga är att vara duktig i skolan eller i någon sport därefter att vara socialt accepterad och tillsist utseende samt uppförande. Syftet med studien är därmed att undersöka självkänslan, självförtroendet, graden av fysik aktivitet, sociala relationer samt hur viktig kroppen och utseendet anses vara hos högstadie och gymnasieelever samt om det skiljer sig åt mellan könen. I studien deltog 75 flickor och 57 pojkar som gick på högstadiet och gymnasiet. Genom att låta ungdomarna värdera ett antal frågor ville vi urskilja elevernas självbild. Resultaten i denna studie visade att pojkar har en högre självkänsla än flickor, oavsett årskurs. Självkänslan visade sig vara ojämn hos pojkarna beroende på vilken årskurs de gick, hos flickorna visade sig självkänslan vara relativt stabil. Studien visade ett samband mellan självkänsla, självförtroende samt synen på den egna kropp och utseendet och sociala relationer, elever som var nöjda med sina kroppar och utseendet hade ett högre självförtroende än de som ej var nöjda. Elever som ansågs sig vara väl omtyckta av sin omgivning hade även de ett högre självförtroende än de som ej ansåg sig vara lika omtyckta.

Kvalitativa intervjuer genomfördes med två chefer och sex medarbetare i två olika organisationer. Intervjuerna spelades in på band varefter de transkriberades och tolkades. Resultatet delades in och analyserades utifrån sex olika teman; synen på hälsa och välmående, hälsofrämjande arbete, hälsosamt ledarskap, ansvar och delaktighet, arbetsmiljö samt hälsofrämjande värde. Resultatet visar att de hälsofrämjande insatser som genomförs främst berör den fysiska hälsan. Det framkommer dock, både ur ett chefs- och medarbetarperspektiv, att mer fokus bör läggas på att främja även den psykiska och sociala hälsan. En förutsättning för att lyckas i det hälsofrämjande arbetet är att det finns ett intresse och engagemang hos ledning och chefer då dessa i sin tur påverkar medarbetarna. För att medarbetare ska vara delaktiga i det hälsofrämjande arbetet krävs det att ledning och chefer föregår med gott exempel och själva deltar i arbetet. Det måste finnas en trovärdighet mellan ord och handling eftersom medarbetare inte gör som chefen säger, de gör som chefen gör. Arbetsplatsen kan erbjuda möjligheter och förutsättningar för att främja hälsan. Varje individ måste dock ta eget ansvar för sig själv och sin hälsa. Friska medarbetare resulterar i en mer lönsam organisation i form av ökad trivsel som i sin tur leder till en ökad prestation. Det är således ett win-win-tänkande som både organisation och individ drar fördel av. Den slutsats vi drar är att ett framgångsrikt hälsofrämjande arbete kräver intresse och delaktighet från samtliga berörda parter, organisation, arbetsplats (grupp), medarbetare (individ) och ledare.

The host-microbiota cross-talk represents an important factor contributing to innate immune response and host resistance during infection. It has been shown that probiotic lactobacilli exhibit the ...ability to modulate innate immunity and enhance pathogen elimination. Here we showed that heat-inactivated probiotic strain Lactobacillus curvatus BGMK2-41 stimulates immune response and resistance of the Caenorhabditis elegans against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. By employing qRT-PCR and western blot analysis we showed that heat-inactivated BGMK2-41 activated PMK-1/p38 MAPK immunity pathway which prolongs the survival of C. elegans exposed to pathogenic bacteria in nematode killing assays. The C. elegans pmk-1 mutant was used to demonstrate a mechanistic basis for the antimicrobial potential of BGMK2-41, showing that BGMK2-41 upregulated PMK-1/p38 MAPK dependent transcription of C-type lectins, lysozymes and tight junction protein CLC-1. Overall, this study suggests that PMK-1/p38 MAPK-dependent immune regulation by BGMK2-41 is essential for probiotic-mediated C. elegans protection against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and could be further explored for development of probiotics with the potential to increase resistance of the host towards pathogens.
We studied the effects of five imidiazolium based ionic liquids with different anions and length of alkyl chains linked to imidazolium ring on the early development of barley (Hordeum vulgare). The ...inhibitory effect depends on the ionic liquids concentration and chemical structure, whereby the most toxic one was C10mimBr, followed by C7mimBr, C4mimBr, C4mimCH3CO2 and C4mimBF4. Both anion and cation structures affected the toxicity of ionic liquid indicating that selection of more biocompatible anions such as CH3CO2 does not necessarily indicate lower toxicity. Alternation in the extent of oxidative stress and antioxidant enzymes activities were found in barley plants due to ionic liquid treatments. When seedlings were exposed to higher concentrations of ionic liquids, antioxidant system could not effectively remove reactive oxidative species, leading to lipid peroxidation and damage of the photosynthetic system. However, overall data indicated that the performance of barley seedling was improved when all measured enzymes involved in scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were increased with special emphasis on GPX activities. Since there are no studies about ionic liquid (IL) toxicity in plants, that simultaneously evaluates the antioxidative enzyme system in response to different ILs, this work is valuable for gaining knowledge about the protection mechanism of plants from oxidative stress caused by IL exposure.

Biofilm, as a form of the microbial community in nature, represents an evolutionary adaptation to the influence of various environmental conditions. In nature, the largest number of microorganisms ...occur in the form of multispecies biofilms. The ability of microorganisms to form a biofilm is one of the reasons for antibiotic resistance. The creation of biofilms resistant to various contaminants, on the other hand, improves the biological treatment process in wastewater treatment plants. Heavy metals cannot be degraded, but they can be transformed into non-reactive and less toxic forms. In this process, microorganisms are irreplaceable as they interact with the metals in a variety of ways. The environment polluted by heavy metals, such as wastewater, is also a source of undiscovered microbial diversity and specific microbial strains. Numerous studies show that biofilm is an irreplaceable strategy for heavy metal removal. In this review, we systematize recent findings regarding the bioremediation potential of biofilm-forming microbial species isolated from diverse wastewaters for heavy metal removal. In addition, we include some mechanisms of action, application possibilities, practical issues, and future prospects.
An outdoor pot experiment was designed to study the potential of poplar (Populus nigra 'Italica') in phytoremediation of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). Poplar was treated with a combination of different ...concentrations of Cd (w = 10, 25, 50mgkg−1 soil) and Pb (400, 800, 1200mgkg−1 soil) and several physiological and biochemical parameters were monitored including the accumulation and distribution of metals in different plant parts (leaf, stem, root). Simultaneously, the changes in the antioxidant system in roots and leaves were monitored to be able to follow synergistic effects of both heavy metals. Moreover, a statistical analysis based on the Random Forests Analysis (RFA) was performed in order to determine the most important predictors affecting growth and antioxidative machinery activities of poplar under heavy metal stress. The study demonstrated that tested poplar could be a good candidate for phytoextraction processes of Cd in moderately contaminated soils, while in heavily contaminated soil it could be only considered as a phytostabilisator. For Pb remediation only phytostabilisation process could be considered. By using RFA we pointed out that it is important to conduct the experiments in an outdoor space and include environmental conditions in order to study more realistic changes of growth parameters and accumulation and distribution of heavy metals. Also, to be able to better understand the interactions among previously mentioned parameters, it is important to conduct the experiments during prolonged time exposure., This is especially important for the long life cycle woody species.

The presence of heavy metals (HMs) in the environment represents a serious environmental problem. In this regard, this work was conceived with the aim of finding, among indigenous microorganisms, the ...species and their combinations with the best biosorption activity for the following HMs: zinc, lead, cadmium, copper, and nickel. The experiment was carried out in several steps: (1) isolation and identification of microbial strains from the Central Effluent Treatment Plant’s wastewater; (2) studying the interaction of microorganisms and the ability to form biofilms in 96-well plates; (3) testing the resistance of biofilms to HMs; (4) testing the growth of biofilms on AMB media carriers in the presence of HMS; and (5) biosorption assay. The selected strains used in this study were:
Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Serratia odorifera
, and
Saccharomyces cerevisiae
. The best biofilm producers in control medium were
K. oxytoca

The main aim of this study was to investigate the application of benthic diatoms and the efficiency of diatom indices in water ecological assessment of rivers in Serbia, as well as the influence of trout farms on rivers water quality. Research was conducted in one year period along the Crnica and Radovanska rivers (Eastern Serbia), in 11 sampling sites (taking into account the position of trout fish farms that are built on both rivers). Results showed that fish farms affect the physical and chemical parameters, as well as diversity of the epilithic diatom assemblage along the rivers. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) indicated that among tested physical and chemical parameters, conductivity “EC”, water hardness “WH”, sulfates “SO42-”, ionized ammonia fraction “NH4+”, nitrates “NO3–“, “pH”, mud, stone and depth were the most important variables affecting the distribution of diatom species. A total of 206 epilithic diatom taxa were recorded in the Radovanska and 170 in the Crnica River. Based on diatom indices, trout fish farms have no significant negative impact on the water quality of the investigated rivers (indices are not enough sensitive). Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed a high degree of correlation between the majority of indices which mostly indicated to good water quality of studied rivers. TID and TDI were the only two indices indicating moderate and poor water quality of both rivers. Water quality based on the TIDRS, the first proposed diatom index for Serbia was differ in two classes in most sites compairing with TID.
Wastewater often contains an increased amount of mercury and, at the same time, resistant microorganisms. During wastewater treatment, a biofilm of indigenous microorganisms is often unavoidable. ...Therefore, the objective of this research is to isolate and identify microorganisms from wastewater and investigate their ability to form biofilms for possible application in mercury removal processes.
The resistance of planktonic cells and their biofilms to the effects of mercury was investigated using Minimum Biofilm Eradication Concentration-High Throughput Plates. The formation of biofilms and the degree of resistance to mercury were confirmed in polystyrene microtiter plates with 96 wells. Biofilm on AMB Media carriers (Assisting Moving Bad Media) was quantified using the Bradford protein assay. The removal of mercury ions by biofilms formed on AMB Media carriers of selected isolates and their consortia was determined by a removal test in Erlenmeyer flasks simulating MBBR.
All isolates in planktonic form showed some degree of resistance to mercury. The most resistant microorganisms (Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Serratia odorifera, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae) were tested for their ability to form biofilms in the presence and absence of mercury, both in polystyrene plates and on ABM carriers. The results showed that among planktonic forms, K. oxytoca was the most resistant. A biofilm of the same microorganisms was more than 10-fold resistant. Most consortia biofilms had MBEC values > 100,000 μg/mL. Among individual biofilms, E. cloacae showed the highest mercury removal efficiency (97.81% for 10 days). Biofilm consortia composed of three species showed the best ability to remove mercury (96.64%–99.03% for 10 days).
This study points to the importance of consortia of different types of wastewater microorganisms in the form of biofilms and suggests that they can be used to remove mercury in wastewater treatment bioreactors.
