Contemporary Eastern Orthodox theologian, Ioannis Zizioulas, is certainly one of the most prominent theologians of the modern times considering his great work as well as the depth of his thought. ...Although his work explores a spectrum of theological ideas, this paper brings his ecclesiology into light from a point of view of “liturgical” and “therapeutic” ecclesiology, which Zizioulas recognizes within the eastern tradition as two types of ecclesiology that are intertwined and therefore cannot be separated one from the other. Thus, this paper examines Zizioulas’ work in the context of the contemporary Greek Orthodox theology and puts forward his interest and view on ecclesiology with an aim to illustrate the “liturgical” and “therapeutic” dimension of ecclesiology that is present in his work and thought which are based fairly on patristic theology. Along these lines, this paper presents his ecclesiological concept right through the prism of “liturgical” and “therapeutic” ecclesiology.
Naime ekološku zauzetost nalazimo u promišljanjima ...nekolicine pravoslavnih filozofa i teologa tek posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća.
Although Orthodox theology has a long and rich tradition, there has been no significant interest in environmental issues recorded in its long history. Namely, it is only in the last few decades that we find environmental preoccupation in the reflections of several Orthodox philosophers and theologians. Their efforts are based on the theology of creation, the ascetic practice, and rich Eastern liturgy. Most notable in Orthodox theology is Ioannis Zizioulas, while significant contributions were also made by Amvrosij Ermakov and Elizabeth Theokritoff, and others. However, there has been a new momentum in expanding the ecological-theological horizon to combat further ecological threats and problems prompted by the dialogical openness of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Francis, who recognized ecology as a great challenge for ecumenism.
In church art, the icon expresses the spirituality of the ChristianEast, but also points to a spiritual and theological reading ofthe image. Despite its theological dimension, the icon is closelyassociated with the place of prayer. This means that the privilegedspace of the icon is the Church. Byzantine spirituality isliturgical and is closely connected with the meaning of the icon.In this sense, icons are an integral part of the eastern tradition.Since the icon cannot be valued only from an artistic point ofview, the intention of this paper is to reveal primarily the spiritualand liturgical-theological dimension of the icon.Looking at everything that the Orthodox Church understandsas a tradition, we cannot imagine either the theologyor the liturgy of the Orthodox Church without icons and theirliturgical-theological significance. Apart from having a theologicalcharacter, icons are also theological artworks created as aresult of prayer and contemplation. On the other hand, the iconis the object before which we pray and which introduces us tothe mystery of faith. In this sense, the icon is capable of expressingmystery and divine Truth. Just as the word of God revealsthe divine Truth, so the icon reveals the Truth, but in a differentway from the Word.
U svjetlu ovih postavki, u završnom djelu članka promatra se aktualnost kršćanskoga pristupa zdravlju, u kontekstu cjelovitog pristupa istome, štetnog utjecaja grijeha, društvene odgovornosti i terapeutskog poslanja Crkve.
The article deals with the Christian understanding of health. The first part of the article points to the basics of the biblical understanding of health with the emphasis on the New Testament perspective. It is followed by a theological-anthropological reflection according to which the theological understanding of man is taken as the point of reference for the Christian understanding of health. Here, the particular Christian understanding of man is emphasised in his initial and final theological determination. In accordance with that, man’s health is observed in its eschatological perspective as a continuous process that involves both man’s earthly and final determination. Hereby the concept of health comes very close to the Christian notion of salvation. In the light of these postulations, the final part of the article examines the actuality of the Christian approach to health, in the context of a comprehensive approach to health, the negative influence of sin, the social responsibility and the therapeutic mission of the Church.
