Non-invasive complementary therapies in improving the health status of the respiratory system in patients with COPD: A literature review Background: Patients with COPD need an individual treatment ...plan that aims to cope with symptoms and requires a different and individualized treatment plan. The medication and surgery cause several complications, accompanied by negative side effects, the “one size fits all as a universal approach" is inappropriate in the treatment of COPD. Therefore, non-pharmacological therapy needed to complement and must be part of comprehensive COPD management as rehabilitation in patients with COPD.Purpose: A literature study was explore non-invasive complementary therapies in improving the health status of the respiratory system in patients with COPDMethod: Analysis based on articles from online databases Proquest, EBSCO, Cochrane, PubMed, and Google scholar. The criteria for the articles used are Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT), published in 2015-2020, in English, full text, accessible. The initial search found 875 articles, after going through the screening process, nine articles were found that were suitable and analyzed. Results: Five types of interventions were found in nine publications, namely physical exercise, breathing exercises, chest physiotherapy, hypnosis, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation providing various benefits on status. Globally there are three million deaths every year. The prevalence of COPD is expected to increase over the next 40 years and by 2060 it is estimated that there will be more than 5.4 million deaths each year due to COPD.Keywords: Non-invasive; Complementary therapies; Health status; Respiratory system; COPDPendahuluan: Penderita PPOK membutuhkan rencana pengobatan individual yang bertujuan untuk menanggulangi gejala dan membutuhkan rencana penanganan yang berbeda dan bersifat individual.
The ketogenic diet is one of the alternative treatment management of epilepsy patients. The study aimed to examine the effect of the ketogenic diet for managing the epilepsy patients. A literature ...review used by databases to find the relevant articles included Science Direct, Scopus, and Pro-Quest from 2011 to 2018. Metabolic therapy with the ketogenic diet can improve mitochondrial function, increase inhibition, and reduce nerve stimulation, which can cause seizures in epilepsy patients. Also, other factors need to be considered to produce an optimal impact on the use of the ketogenic diet, such as patient compliance and age. The ketogenic diet is one of the non-pharmacological alternatives that can be done to prevent recurrence in epilepsy patients.

Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) can have low self-efficacy due to symptoms of shortness of breath and cough. Proper use of an inhaler is able to overcome these symptoms. ...The majority of COPD patients are still using inhalers incorrectly. Inhaler use training can improve the technique of inhaler use and is expected to improve self-efficacy in COPD patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of inhaler training on self-efficacy in COPD patients. The research design used a quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent control group pretest-postest. Thirty-six patients with COPD were selected using consecutive sampling and were divided into groups that followed the inhaler training and those who did not follow the inhaler training. The results showed that there was a significant improvement in self-efficacy in COPD patients by 9.33 score after the inhaler training (p=0.001; p<0.05) and there was a significant difference in self-efficacy change of 6 scores compared to COPD patients who did not follow the inhaler training (p=0.000; p<0.05). In conclusion, there was an influence of inhaler training on self-efficacy in COPD patients so inhaler training is recommended to that nurses to be given to COPD patients.
Shortness of breath (dyspnea) is a common symptom that accompanies patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Management of dyspnea in patients with COPD is not only using ...pharmacological therapy but also non-pharmacological therapy. Non-pharmacological therapy for patients with COPD covers three main aspects: breath, mind, and functional processing. Along with the development of complementary therapy in nursing science, nursing interventions that can be done at home begin to be in great demand because of their low cost and time effectiveness. One of the interventions is providing breathing exercises and relaxation for patients with COPD to reduce the dyspnea complaints, increase the strength of breathing muscles and prevent the hospital re-admission due to acute exacerbation. This study aimed to see the effectiveness of the combination of Pursed Lip Breathing (PLB) and Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on the degree of dyspnea. This quasi-experimental study was conducted with a pre and post-test design approach with 20 respondents in each group. The results showed significant differences in the degree of dyspnea after the combination of PLB and PMR (p < 0.05). The results from this study recommend improving the development of complementary therapy programs in nursing education and services by modifying nursing care standards with the combinations of PLB and PMR for patients with COPD.
ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the application of therapeutic positions to the vital signs parameters of stroke patients at the Prof. Dr. National Brain Center Hospital. Dr. Mahar Mardjono ...Jakarta. This research is an application of Evidence-Based Nursing which was applied to 12 respondents. Each patient in the study group was positioned in various therapeutic positions every 2 hours following a semi-fowler's rotating schedule, lying on their side to the healthy side (Unaffected Side Position), lying on their back (Supine Position), and lying on their side to the side with hemiparesis or hemiplegia (Affected Side Position). Based on the results, the average systolic blood pressure decreased on the second post-intervention day (day 2) with a mean of 124.08 and a standard deviation of 3,147, while the diastolic mean was not much different from the first day, namely 83.17 and a standard deviation of 2,657. The average heart rate on the second-day post-intervention decreased with a mean of 84.92 and a standard deviation of 0.900. In the respiration rate variable, the decrease in the mean value post-intervention on the second day was 15.33 (standard deviation 0.888). The mean value for oxygen saturation levels (SPO2) with the mean post-test value on the second day was 99.75 (standard deviation 0.452). So it can be concluded that providing therapeutic positions intervention can reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration rate and increase oxygen saturation. Keywords: Therapeutic Positions, Vital Signs ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Penerapan Therapeutic Positions Terhadap Parameter Vital Signs Pasien Stroke Di Rumah Sakit Pusat Otak Nasional Prof Dr. dr.
