We present the first model-independent measurement of the absolute branching fraction of the Lambda_c+ -> p K- pi+ decay using a data sample of 978 fb^-1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB ...asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The number of Lambda_c+ baryons is determined by reconstructing the recoiling D(*)- anti-p pi+ system in events of the type e+e- -> D(*)- anti-p pi+ Lambda_c+. The branching fraction is measured to be Br(Lambda_c+ -> p K- pi+) = (6.84 +- 0.24^{+0.21}_{-0.27})%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.
We report the analysis of the three-body e+e- => B B-bar pi, B B*-bar pi, and B* B*-bar pi processes, including the first observation of the Zb+-(10610) =>B B*-bar+c.c.+- and Zb+-(10650) => ...B*B*-bar+- transitions. We measure visible cross sections for the three-body production of sigma_vis(e+e- => B B*-bar+c.c.+-pi-+=(11.2+-1.0(stat.)+-1.2(syst.)) pb and sigma_vis(e+e- => B*B*-bar+-pi-+)=(5.61+-0.73(stat.)+-0.66(syst.)) pb and set a 90% C.L. upper limit of sigma_vis(e+e- => BB-bar+-pi-+)<2.1 pb. The results are based on a 121.4 1/fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(5S) peak.
We report a measurement of the \(B^0\rightarrow\psi(2S)\pi^0\) branching fraction based on the full \(\Upsilon(4S)\) data set of \(772\times10^{6}\) \(B\bar{B}\) pairs collected by the Belle detector ...at the KEKB asymmetric-energy \(e^+e^-\) collider. We obtain \(B(B^0\rightarrow\psi(2S)\pi^0) = (1.17\pm0.17\text{(stat)}\pm0.08\text{(syst)})\times10^{-5}\). The result has a significance of 7.2 standard deviations and is the first observation of the decay \(B^0\rightarrow\psi(2S)\pi^0\).
The qualitative Hanssen technic was used to study the mechanism of anuria produced in rabbits by mercury poisoning. Twenty-four to 30 hours after intravenous injection of a low dose of HgCl
2
, the ...animals were almost completely anuric. Sodium ferrocyanide injected intravenously was visualized as Prussian blue in essentially all glomeruli in anuric kidneys, and the amount of the dye in the glomerular tufts was almost the same as in control kidneys. Thus there was no evidence for a severe reduction in glomerular capillary blood flow. Besides, the distribution of Prussian blue in tubular lumina indicated that the anuria occurred in the presence of a significant glomerular filtration. Tubular walls of the anuric kidneys showed an abnormally increased permeability to sodium ferrocyanide. These findings suggested that the anuria during this stage was caused more by tubular leakage than by intrarenal vasoconstriction and subsequent cessation of glomerular filtration.
The influence of antecedent renal disease on pregnancy was studied retrospectively in 72 women with various renal diseases that had been proved by biopsy. Among 105 pregnancies studied, normal ...deliveries were observed in 74 (71%), abnormal deliveries with live infants in 14 (13%), fetal or neonatal deaths in 11 (10%), and spontaneous abortions in six (6%). The incidence of normal delivery, as well as that of live births, was the highest in the cases of membranous glomerulonephritis, but there was no obvious difference in the incidence among IgA nephropathy and non-IgA proliferative glomerulonephritis. Cases in which there were tubulointerstitial changes of the cortical area or arteriosclerosis in biopsy specimens and cases that included hypertension (greater than 140/90 mm Hg) or decreased renal function (glomerular filtration rate, less than 70 ml/min) were clearly associated with an unfavorable outcome in delivery. It was concluded that assessment of the advisability of pregnancy in nephritic women should be made on the basis of a combination of the clinical and histologic parameters.
The miscibility gap in the liquid Fe--Sn system was determined by a Knudsen-cell mass spectrometric combination. The limits of the miscibility gap can be determined in situ by this technique. The ...determination was performed for the composition range 10.1 to 89.2 at.% Sn and the temperature range 1200 to 1600 deg C. The consolute point was found to be located at about 1495 deg C and the limits of the miscibility gap were determined at various temperatures. The consolute point obtained in this study is lower than the literature values. The activities of Fe and Sn at 1550 deg C and 1600 deg C were determined from the ion current ratios for various alloy compositions by the use of the modified Gibbs--Duhem equation. Though the activity curves exhibit large positive deviation from ideal behavior, the obtained activity curves change smoothly with the composition, which shows there is the miscibility gap at these temperatures. 18 ref.--AA
The effect of phosphorus on microstructure and mechanical properties of dephosphorised JIS AC3A alloys was investigated. In 3 ppm phosphorus alloy, eutectic silicon crystallizes in very fine and ...lamellar structure, and iron base intermetallic compounds crystallizes in very fine one. In case of 12 ppm phosphorus alloy, eutectic silicon takes a coarse acicular shape, and iron base intermetallic compounds are also coarse. Strength of 3 ppm phosphorus alloy is larger than that of 12 ppm phosphorus one. Particularly elongation and absorbed energy of 3 ppm phosphorus alloy are over three times as large as those of 12 ppm phosphorus alloy. By dephosphorising commercial alloys, we removed the deleterious effect of phosphorus on microstructure of eutectic silicon and iron base intermetallic compounds and improved mechanical properties.
