The prompt reconstruction of the data recorded from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) detectors has always been addressed by dedicated resources at the CERN Tier-0. Such workloads come in spikes due to ...the nature of the operation of the accelerator and in special high load occasions experiments have commissioned methods to distribute (spill-over) a fraction of the load to sites outside CERN. The present work demonstrates a new way of supporting the Tier-0 environment by provisioning resources elastically for such spilled-over workflows onto the Piz Daint Supercomputer at CSCS. This is implemented using containers, tuning the existing batch scheduler and reinforcing the scratch file system, while still using standard Grid middleware. ATLAS, CMS and CSCS have jointly run selected prompt data reconstruction on up to several thousand cores on Piz Daint into a shared environment, thereby probing the viability of the CSCS high performance computer site as on demand extension of the CERN Tier-0, which could play a role in addressing the future LHC computing challenges for the high luminosity LHC.
Databases are used in many software components of HEP computing, from monitoring and job scheduling to data storage and processing. It is not always clear at the beginning of a project if a problem ...can be handled by a single server, or if one needs to plan for a multi-server solution. Before a scalable solution is adopted, it helps to know how well it performs in a single server case to avoid situations when a multi-server solution is adopted mostly due to sub-optimal performance per node. This paper presents comparison benchmarks of popular open source database management systems. As a test application we use a user job monitoring system based on the Glidein workflow management system used in the CMS Collaboration.

Fireworks is a CMS event display which is specialized for the physics studies case. This specialization allows us to use a stylized rather than 3D-accurate representation when appropriate. Data ...handling is greatly simplified by using only reconstructed information and ideal geometry. Fireworks provides an easy-to-use interface which allows a physicist to concentrate only on the data in which he is interested. Data is presented via graphical and textual views. Fireworks is built using the Eve subsystem of the CERN ROOT project and CMS's FWLite project. The FWLite project was part of CMS's recent code redesign which separates data classes into libraries separate from algorithms producing the data and uses ROOT directly for C++ object storage, thereby allowing the data classes to be used directly in ROOT.
During the last year the CMS experiment engaged in consolidation of its existing event display programs. The core of the new system is based on the Fireworks event display program which was by-design ...directly integrated with the CMS Event Data Model (EDM) and the light version of the software framework (FWLite). The Event Visualization Environment (EVE) of the ROOT framework is used to manage a consistent set of 3D and 2D views, selection, user-feedback and user-interaction with the graphics windows; several EVE components were developed by CMS in collaboration with the ROOT project. In event display operation simple plugins are registered into the system to perform conversion from EDM collections into their visual representations which are then managed by the application. Full event navigation and filtering as well as collection-level filtering is supported. The same data-extraction principle can also be applied when Fireworks will eventually operate as a service within the full software framework.
Fireworks, the event-display program of CMS, was extended with an advanced geometry visualization package. ROOT's TGeo geometry is used as internal representation, shared among several geometry ...views. Each view is represented by a GUI list-tree widget, implemented as a flat vector to allow for fast searching, selection, and filtering by material type, node name, and shape type. Display of logical and physical volumes is supported. Color, transparency, and visibility flags can be modified for each node or for a selection of nodes. Further operations, like opening of a new view or changing of the root node, can be performed via a context menu. Node selection and graphical properties determined by the list-tree view can be visualized in any 3D graphics view of Fireworks. As each 3D view can display any number of geometry views, a user is free to combine different geometry-view selections within the same 3D view. Node-selection by proximity to a given point is possible. A visual clipping box can be set for each geometry view to limit geometry drawing into a specified region. Visualization of geometric overlaps, as detected by TGeo, is also supported. The geometry visualization package is used for detailed inspection and display of simulation geometry with or without the event data. It also serves as a tool for geometry debugging and inspection, facilitating development of geometries for CMS detector upgrades and for SLHC.
Мета роботи: покращити результати повторної реваскуляризації артеріального русла нижніх кінцівок у хворих із рецидивом хронічної артеріальної недостатності шляхом застосування в комплексі повторного ...оперативного втручання методів ендоваскулярної ангіопластики.
Матеріали і методи. В роботу включено 522 пацієнти з атеросклеротичним ураженням аорто-стегно-підколінного сегмента. У 231 пацієнта діагностовано ХАН ІІІА ст., у 191 – ХКІНК ІІІБ-ІV ст., у 100 – ХАН ІІБ ст. Виділено три групи хворих. І група – 22 спостереження (28,2 %) – первинна операція – реконструкція аорто/клубово-стегнової зони за відсутності гемодинамічно значущого атеросклеротичного процесу стегно-дистального сегмента; ІІ група – 43 спостереження (55,1 %) – первинна операція – реконструкція аорто/клубово-стегнового сегмента за наявності стенотично-оклюзивного процесу стегно-підколінної зони; ІІІ група – 13 спостережень (16,7 %) – первинна операція – реконструкція аорто/клубово-стегнової зони доповнена автовенозним стегно-дистальним шунтуванням.
Результати досліджень та їх обговорення. Повторну реваскуляризацію магістрального русла нижніх кінцівок при рецидиві ХАН здійснювали із врахуванням особливостей первинного оперативного втручання, локалізації стенотично-оклюзивного процесу, його поширеності та поєднання з іншими сегментами артеріального русла нижніх кінцівок. Виявлено прогресуюче ураження атеросклеротичним процесом зони дистального анастомозу аорто/клубово-стегнового алопротеза у 36 (48,7 %) спостереженнях, а гомілкової зони – у 61 (78,2 %) хворого. Основним хірургічним втручанням при повторній реваскуляризації були стегно-дистальні шунтуючі операції, які в 32 випадках доповнені ендоваскулярною балонною ангіопластикою гомілкової артерії, з них у 19-ти втручаннях виконано ангіопластику одразу двох артерій. При оклюзивно-стенотичному процесі гомілкових артерій виконано 23 підколінно-задньо-великогомілкових (передньо-великогомілкових) шунтувань. Післяопераційний період у 10 (12,8 %) пацієнтів ускладнився розвитком тромбозу сегмента реконструкції, з них у двох випадках після ендоваскулярної балонної ангіопластики.
Мета роботи. Покращити результати повторної реваскуляризації артеріального русла нижніх кінцівок у пацієнтів із рецидивом хронічної артеріальної недостатності у віддаленому післяопераційному періоді ...після реконструкції аорто/клубово-стегнової зони.
Матеріали і методи. Протягом 2006–2019 рр. простежено віддалені результати хірургічного лікування 522 хворих. Оперативне втручання проведено 353 пацієнтам, з яких у 260 мало місце порушення кровотоку по стегно-підколінному сегменті. У вказані терміни прооперовано 159 пацієнтів із приводу оклюзивно-стенотичного ураження клубово-стегнової зони, з яких у 94 мало місце порушення кровоплину по стегно-підколінному артеріальному руслі. На час первинного хірургічного втручання у 228 пацієнтів діагностовано хронічну артеріальну недостатність (ХАН) ІІІА ст. (за класифікацією R. Fontaine з урахуванням критеріїв Європейської робочої групи (1992)), у 189 – ХКІНК ІІІБ–ІV ст., у 98 – ХАН ІІБ ст. У 92 (17,6 %) хворих був гемодинамічно значимий стеноз екстракраніальних артерій, з них 75 проведено оперативне втручання на судинах шиї в умовах хірургічного лікування атеросклеротичного ураження аорто/клубово-стегно-підколінного артеріального русла.
Результати й обговорення. У 78 пацієнтів із рецидивом хронічної артеріальної недостатності нижніх кінцівок у віддаленому післяопераційному періоді повторне оперативне втручання здійснювали з урахуванням особливостей первинної реваскуляризації артеріального русла, локалізації стенотично оклюзивного процесу, його поєднання та поширення атеросклеротичного процесу. Повторна реваскуляризація ускладнилася розвитком тромбозу сегмента реконструкції (10 випадків, що становить 12,8 % спостережень).
Висновки. Основним реваскулярним втручанням у пацієнтів із рецидивом хронічної артеріальної недостатності є нестандартні, технічно складні, багаторівневі решунтуючі операції. При реваскуляризації гомілкового артеріального сегмента використовували стегно/підколінно-гомілкове аутовенозне шунтування та ендоваскулярну ангіопластику.
Searches are reported for Higgs bosons in the context of either the standard model extended to include a fourth generation of fermions (SM4) with masses of up to 600 GeV or fermiophobic models. For ...the former, results from three decay modes (tau tau, WW, and ZZ) are combined, whilst for the latter the diphoton decay is exploited. The analysed proton-proton collision data correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and up to 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The observed results exclude the SM4 Higgs boson in the mass range 110-600 GeV at 99% confidence level (CL), and in the mass range 110-560 GeV at 99.9% CL. A fermiophobic Higgs boson is excluded in the mass range 110-147 GeV at 95% CL, and in the range 110-134 GeV at 99% CL. The recently observed boson with a mass near 125 GeV is not consistent with either an SM4 or a fermiophobic Higgs boson.
Results are reported from a search for the production of three-jet resonances in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=7 TeV. The study uses the data sample collected by the CMS experiment ...at the LHC in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 inverse femtobarns. Events with high jet multiplicity and a large scalar sum of jet transverse momenta are analyzed for the presence of resonances in the three-jet invariant mass spectrum. The number of events observed is found to be in agreement with the expectation from standard model processes. Limits are set on the cross section for gluino pair prediction in an R-parity-violating supersymmetry model, for gluino masses greater than 280 GeV. Assuming a branching fraction for gluino decay into three jets of 100%, gluino masses below 460 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. These results significantly extend the range of previous limits.
