Designing new quantum materials with long-lived electron spin states urgently requires a general theoretical formalism and computational technique to reliably predict intrinsic spin relaxation times. ...We present a new, accurate and universal first-principles methodology based on Lindbladian dynamics of density matrices to calculate spin-phonon relaxation time of solids with arbitrary spin mixing and crystal symmetry. This method describes contributions of Elliott-Yafet and D'yakonov-Perel' mechanisms to spin relaxation for systems with and without inversion symmetry on an equal footing. We show that intrinsic spin and momentum relaxation times both decrease with increasing temperature; however, for the D'yakonov-Perel' mechanism, spin relaxation time varies inversely with extrinsic scattering time. We predict large anisotropy of spin lifetime in transition metal dichalcogenides. The excellent agreement with experiments for a broad range of materials underscores the predictive capability of our method for properties critical to quantum information science.
Soil salinization is a serious problem for cultivation of rice, as among cereals rice is the most salt sensitive crop, and more than 40% of the total agricultural land amounting to approximately 80 ...million ha the world over is salt affected. Salinity affects a plant in a varieties of ways, including ion toxicity, osmotic stress and oxidative damage. Since miRNAs occupy the top place in biochemical events determining a trait, understanding their role in salt tolerance is highly desirable, which may allow introduction of the trait in the rice cultivars of choice through biotechnological interventions. High throughput sequencing of sRNAs in the root and shoot tissues of the seedlings of the control and NaCl treated Pokkali, a salt-tolerant rice variety, identified 75 conserved miRNAs and mapped 200 sRNAs to the rice genome as novel miRNAs. Expression of nine novel miRNAs and two conserved miRNAs were confirmed by Northern blotting. Several of both conserved and novel miRNAs that expressed differentially in root and/or shoot tissues targeted transcription factors like AP2/EREBP domain protein, ARF, NAC, MYB, NF-YA, HD-Zip III, TCP and SBP reported to be involved in salt tolerance or in abiotic stress tolerance in general. Most of the novel miRNAs expressed in the salt tolerant wild rice Oryza coarctata, suggesting conservation of miRNAs in taxonomically related species. One of the novel miRNAs, osa-miR12477, also targeted L-ascorbate oxidase (LAO), indicating build-up of oxidative stress in the plant upon salt treatment, which was confirmed by DAB staining. Thus, salt tolerance might involve miRNA-mediated regulation of 1) cellular abundance of the hormone signaling components like EREBP and ARF, 2) synthesis of abiotic stress related transcription factors, and 3) antioxidative component like LAO for mitigation of oxidative damage. The study clearly indicated importance of osa-miR12477 regulated expression of LAO in salt tolerance in the plant.
The 1000 Genomes Project (1kGP) is the largest fully open resource of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data consented for public distribution without access or use restrictions. The final, phase 3 ...release of the 1kGP included 2,504 unrelated samples from 26 populations and was based primarily on low-coverage WGS. Here, we present a high-coverage 3,202-sample WGS 1kGP resource, which now includes 602 complete trios, sequenced to a depth of 30X using Illumina. We performed single-nucleotide variant (SNV) and short insertion and deletion (INDEL) discovery and generated a comprehensive set of structural variants (SVs) by integrating multiple analytic methods through a machine learning model. We show gains in sensitivity and precision of variant calls compared to phase 3, especially among rare SNVs as well as INDELs and SVs spanning frequency spectrum. We also generated an improved reference imputation panel, making variants discovered here accessible for association studies.
The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between shopping motivation and purchase intention. This study examines the impact of antecedents of utilitarian motivation and hedonic ...motivations on purchase intention among Generation Y Indian. The study follows the quantitative approach and collects the data through the survey questionnaire. A total of 229 responses are collected and analysed by using the structural equation modeling. Both hedonic motivations and utilitarian motivations are found to be influencing the purchase intention of foreign brand clothing. The antecedent of utilitarian motivations customized advertisements, and convenience and the antecedent of hedonic motivations adventure, authority and status are found to be significant. The findings are applicable to marketers as while designing the integrated marketing communications, management may emphases the hedonic dimensions of adventure, authority and status along with the utilitarian dimensions of customized advertisements and convenience for greater impact on consumers. The study contributes to the theory of shopping motivation and generational approach in marketing. The article adds value to the literature not only by validating previous work but also by offering new insights into shopping motivation and Generation Y India.
Abstract Confluences act as crucial intersection in a fluvial system as they regulate the flow, sediment, and geomorphological stability. Two of the natural occurrences that have an effect on ...hydro-morphological processes that characterize the channel are sediment movement and stream discharge. However, assessments of suspended sediment distribution patterns across channel confluences and functions of tributaries on sediment transfer in downstream streams are still inadequately explored. To fulfil this, a year-long field investigation was conducted around river confluence at various time scales during the hydrological season. The bathymetry of the confluence was performed using digital echo-sounding equipment, electro-magnetic current meter, and differential global positioning equipment. This study uses in situ measurement and empirical techniques to quantify the spatiotemporal distribution of suspended sediment particles. Furthermore, Yang's formula was used to analyze the sediment concentration, and several statistical standards were employed to establish a differentiation between predicted and observed data. The results illustrated that a good agreement has been achieved among the calculated and measured statistics based on the correlation coefficient value. According to the findings, 8% fewer errors in the quantification of suspended sediment were induced in the tributary than in the main river because of the very low flow of the tributary. The present ramifications can help increase our database and understanding of the dynamics of major river confluences.
There is a lack of approaches for identifying pathogenic genomic structural variants (SVs) although they play a crucial role in many diseases. We present a mechanism-agnostic machine learning-based ...workflow, called SVFX, to assign pathogenicity scores to somatic and germline SVs. In particular, we generate somatic and germline training models, which include genomic, epigenomic, and conservation-based features, for SV call sets in diseased and healthy individuals. We then apply SVFX to SVs in cancer and other diseases; SVFX achieves high accuracy in identifying pathogenic SVs. Predicted pathogenic SVs in cancer cohorts are enriched among known cancer genes and many cancer-related pathways.
Poor filling of grains in the basal spikelets of large size panicles bearing numerous spikelets has been a major limitation in attempts to increase the rice production to feed the world's increasing ...population. Considering that biotechnological intervention could play important role in overcoming this limitation, the role of cytokinin in grain filling was investigated based on the information on cell proliferating potential of the hormone and reports of its high accumulation in immature seeds.
A comparative study considering two rice varieties differing in panicle compactness, lax-panicle Upahar and compact-panicle OR-1918, revealed significant difference in grain filling, cytokinin oxidase (CKX) activity and expression, and expression of cell cycle regulators and cytokinin signaling components between the basal and apical spikelets of OR-1918, but not of Upahar. Exogenous application of cytokinin (6-Benzylaminopurine, BAP) to OR-1918 improved grain filling significantly, and this was accompanied by a significant decrease in expression and activity of CKX, particularly in the basal spikelets where the activity of CKX was significantly higher than that in the apical spikelets. Cytokinin application also resulted in significant increase in expression of cell cycle regulators like cyclin dependent kinases and cyclins in the basal spikelets that might be facilitating cell division in the endosperm cells by promoting G1/S phase and G2/M phase transition leading to improvement in grain filling. Expression studies of type-A response regulator (RR) component of cytokinin signaling indicated possible role of OsRR3, OsRR4 and OsRR6 as repressors of CKX expression, much needed for an increased accumulation of CK in cells. The results suggested that seed-specific overexpression of OsRR4 and OsRR6, and more importantly of IPT9 could be an effective biotechnological intervention towards improving the CK level of the developing caryopses leading to enhanced grain filling in rice cultivars bearing large panicles with numerous spikelets, and thereby increasing their yield potential.

In this context, the next-generation communication technology, i.e., sixth generation (6G), is trying to build up the base to meet the imperative need of future network deployment. This article adopts the vision for 6G IoT systems and proposes an IoT-based real-time location monitoring system using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for underground communication applications. An application-based analysis of industrial positioning systems is also presented.
This review brings forth the potential of thiazole derivatives for their anticancer activities. The emphasis is placed on the structural diversity of thiazole derivatives, responsible for their ...specific anticancer activity. Multiple classes of thiazole derivatives such as Schiff base, mono-, di-, tri-, and heterocyclic substituents that possess anticancer activity have been exemplified. Molecular modelling of compounds that predicts enhanced anticancer activity of the modified structures has also been elaborated in the review. Significant advancements in synthetic chemistry related to cytotoxicity can now better position the drug discovery team to undertake thiazoles as valuable leads. The beneficial thiazole derivatives possessing anticancer activity will reignite the interest of medicinal chemists in thiazole and their derivatives.
