It is shown that this transition is automatic if the sharp cut-off approximation is assumed for quantum corrections in the period of transition. Furthermore, we describe two different quantum mechanisms that may provide a required large

-term in the transition period.
This review presents literature that highlights saliva’s utility as a biofluid in the diagnosis and monitoring of COVID-19. A systematic search was performed in 5 electronic databases (PubMed, ...Embase, LILACS, Scopus, and Web of Science). Studies were eligible for inclusion if they assessed the potential diagnostic value and/or other discriminatory properties of biological markers in the saliva of patients with COVID-19. As of July 22, 2020, a total of 28 studies have investigated the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in saliva. Several of those studies confirmed reliable detection of SARS-CoV-2 in the saliva of patients with COVID-19. Saliva offered sensitivity and specificity for SARS-CoV-2 detection comparable to that of the current standard of nasopharyngeal and throat swabs. However, the utility of saliva in diagnosing COVID-19 infection remains understudied. Clinical studies with larger patient populations that measure recordings at different stages during the disease are still necessary to confirm the accuracy of COVID-19 diagnosis with saliva. Nevertheless, the utility of saliva as a diagnostic tool opens the possibility of using rapid and less invasive diagnostic strategies by targeting bioanalytes rather than the pathogen.
Guanabara Bay is the second largest bay in the coast of Brazil, with an area of 384 km(2). In its surroundings live circa 16 million inhabitants, out of which 6 million live in Rio de Janeiro city, ...one of the largest cities of the country, and the host of the 2016 Olympic Games. Anthropogenic interference in Guanabara Bay area started early in the XVI century, but environmental impacts escalated from 1930, when this region underwent an industrialization process. Herein we present an overview of the current environmental and sanitary conditions of Guanabara Bay, a consequence of all these decades of impacts. We will focus on microbial communities, how they may affect higher trophic levels of the aquatic community and also human health. The anthropogenic impacts in the bay are flagged by heavy eutrophication and by the emergence of pathogenic microorganisms that are either carried by domestic and/or hospital waste (e.g., virus, KPC-producing bacteria, and fecal coliforms), or that proliferate in such conditions (e.g., vibrios). Antibiotic resistance genes are commonly found in metagenomes of Guanabara Bay planktonic microorganisms. Furthermore, eutrophication results in recurrent algal blooms, with signs of a shift toward flagellated, mixotrophic groups, including several potentially harmful species. A recent large-scale fish kill episode, and a long trend decrease in fish stocks also reflects the bay's degraded water quality. Although pollution of Guanabara Bay is not a recent problem, the hosting of the 2016 Olympic Games propelled the government to launch a series of plans to restore the bay's water quality. If all plans are fully implemented, the restoration of Guanabara Bay and its shores may be one of the best legacies of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The derivation of effective quantum gravity corrections to Newton’s potential is an important step in the whole effective quantum field theory approach. We hereby add new strong arguments in favor of ...omitting all the diagrams with internal lines of the massive sources, and we also recalculate the corrections to the Newtonian potential using functional methods in an arbitrary parametrization of the quantum fluctuations of the metric. The general proof of the gauge- and parametrization-independence within this approach is also explicitly given. On top of that, we argue that the universality of the result holds regardless of the details of the ultraviolet completion of quantum gravity theory. Indeed, it turns out that the logarithm quantum correction depends only on the low energy spectrum of the theory that is responsible for the analytic properties of loop’s amplitudes.
Monkeypox virus (MPXV) infection was classified as a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022, being transmitted between humans by large ...respiratory droplets, in contact with skin lesions, fomites, and sexually. Currently, there are no available accessible and simple-to-use diagnostic tests that accurately detect MPXV antigens for decentralized and frequent testing. Here, we report an electrochemical biosensor to detect MPXV antigens in saliva and plasma samples within 15 min using accessible materials. The electrochemical system was manufactured onto a paper substrate engraved by a CO2 laser machine, modified with gold nanostructures (AuNS) and a monoclonal antibody, enabling sensitive detection of A29 viral protein. The diagnostic test is based on the use of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and can be run by a miniaturized potentiostat connected to a smartphone. The impedimetric biosensing method presented excellent analytical parameters, enabling the detection of A29 glycoprotein in the concentration ranging from 1 × 10–14 to 1 × 10–7 g mL–1, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.0 × 10–16 g mL–1. Furthermore, it enabled the detection of MPXV antigens in the concentration ranging from 1 × 10–1 to 1 × 104 PFU mL–1, with an LOD of 7.8 × 10–3 PFU mL–1. Importantly, no cross-reactivity was observed when our device was tested in the presence of other poxvirus and nonpoxvirus strains, indicating the adequate selectivity of our nanobiosensor for MPXV detection. Collectively, the nanobiosensor presents high greenness metrics associated with the use of a reproducible and large-scale fabrication method, an accessible and sustainable paper substrate, and a low volume of sample (2.5 μL), which could facilitate frequent testing of MPXV at point-of-care (POC).

The effective action in quantum general relativity is strongly dependent on the gauge-fixing and parametrization of the quantum metric. As a consequence, in the effective approach to ...quantum gravity, there is no possibility to introduce the renormalization-group framework in a consistent way. On the other hand, the version of effective action proposed by Vilkovisky and DeWitt does not depend on the gauge-fixing and parametrization off- shell, opening the way to explore the running of the cosmological and Newton constants as well as the coefficients of the higher-derivative terms of the total action. We argue that in the effective framework the one-loop beta functions for the zero-, two- and four-derivative terms can be regarded as exact, that means, free from corrections coming from the higher loops. In this perspective, the running describes the renormalization group flow between the present-day Hubble scale in the IR and the Planck scale in the UV.
Objetivo. Evaluar el leucograma de codornices de engorde inoculadas in ovo del ácido linoleico conjugado (CLA) y ácido laurico (AL) mientras están expuestas a un desafío sanitario. Material y ...métodos. El agua de bebida fue ofrecida siente días antes de la llegada de las codornices y solo fue reabastecida, no se realizó lavado de bebederos, durante toda la fase del experimento. Los tratamientos fueron distribuidos en 480 huevos fértiles, en el 7° día de incubación: Control negativo: sin perforación, control positivo: inyectado con diluyente (aceite de maíz; AM; CLA 120: 120 mg CLA/AM; CLA240: 240 mg CLA /AM; AL 60: 60 mg AL /AM y AL90: 90 mg AL /AM. Fue utilizado delineamiento completamente al azar con cuatro repeticiones. Los leucocitos totales y el conteo diferencia de leucocitos fueron evaluados a los 21 y 36 días de edad. Resultados. Las inoculaciones, no presentaron efecto significativo (p>0.05) en los parámetros evaluados. Se observó una media de 10927.1 ± 2933.6 células/μl, 61.6 ± 7.31%, 32.0 ± 7.13% e 0.57 ± 0.21 para conteo total de leucocitos, linfocitos, heterofilos y la relación heterófilos/linfocitos, respectivamente, a los 21 días. A los 36 días, observamos una media general de 13291.7 ± 3559.0 células/μl, 65.0 ± 9.29%, 29.3±9.93% y 0.50 ± 0.24, para esas mismas variables, respectivamente. Conclusiones. Los niveles de inoculación in ovo de CLA e AL no afectaron el leucograma de codornices de engorde criadas en desafío sanitario.
In the present work we investigate the Newtonian limit of higher-derivative gravity theories with more than four derivatives in the action, including the non-analytic logarithmic terms resulting from ...one-loop quantum corrections. The first part of the paper deals with the occurrence of curvature singularities of the metric in the classical models. It is shown that in the case of local theories, even though the curvature scalars of the metric are regular, invariants involving derivatives of curvatures can still diverge. Indeed, we prove that if the action contains

derivatives of the metric in both the scalar and the spin-2 sectors, then all the curvature-derivative invariants with at most 2
n
covariant derivatives of the curvatures are regular, while there exist scalars with
2
n
+
2
derivatives that are singular. The regularity of all these invariants can be achieved in some classes of nonlocal gravity theories. In the second part of the paper, we show that the leading logarithmic quantum corrections do not change the regularity of the Newtonian limit. Finally, we also consider the infrared limit of these solutions and verify the universality of the leading quantum correction to the potential in all the theories investigated in the paper.
Bipolar Disorder (BD) has recently been related to a process of accelerated aging, with shortened leukocyte telomere length (LTL) in this population. It has also been observed that the suicide rate ...in BD patients is higher than in the general population, and more recently the telomere length variation has been described as shorter in suicide completers compared with control subjects. Objectives The aim of the present study was to investigate if there is an association between LTL and BD in families where two or more members have BD including clinical symptomatology variables, along with suicide behavior. Methods Telomere length and single copy gene ratio (T/S ratio) was measured using quantitative polymerase chain reaction in a sample of 143 relatives from 22 families, of which 60 had BD. The statistical analysis was performed with a polygenic mixed model. Results LTL was associated with suicidal ideation (p = 0.02) as that there is an interaction between suicidal ideation and course of the disorder (p = 0.02). The estimated heritability for LTL in these families was 0.68. In addition, covariates that relate to severity of disease, i.e. suicidal ideation and course of the disorder, showed an association with shorter LTL in BD patients. No difference in LTL between BD patients and healthy relatives was observed. Conclusion LTL are shorter in subjects with familial BD suggesting that stress related sub-phenotypes possibly accelerate the process of cellular aging and correlate with disease severity and suicidal ideation.
The present study was designed to evaluate the relationship between bone traits bone mineral density (BMD) and trabecular bone score (TBS) and the accumulation of fat in adipose tissues abdominal ...subcutaneous (SAT), visceral (VAT), marrow (MAT) and intrahepatic lipids (IHL), as well as insulin resistance, in subjects with Cushing's disease (CD). The study included control (C = 27), paired (P = 16) and Cushing's disease (CD = 10) groups, which underwent biochemical assessment, dual X-ray absorptiometry, TBS, and magnetic resonance imaging to determine fat deposits. The CD group showed higher serum levels of glucose and insulin, as well as HOMA-IR values, but lower circulatory levels of osteocalcin, in comparison to C and P. The CD group exhibited lower L1-L4 BMD than P (P = 1.059 ± 0.141 vs CD = 0.935 ± 0.093 g/cm2, p < 0.05) (Fig 1A). The lumbar spine BMD from the C group was similar to the other groups. TBS was lower in CD than in P and C (C = 1.512±0.077 vs P = 1.405±0.150 vs CD = 1.135±0.136; p<0.05); there was also significant difference between C and P (p<0.05). MAT, VAT, and IHL were higher in CD than in C and P (p<0.05). Considering all subjects, there was a positive association between TBS with both lumbar spine BMD (R2 = 0.45; p<0.0001) and osteocalcin (R2 = 0.44; p = 0.05). TBS was negatively associated with MAT (R2 = 0.49; p = 0.01), VAT (R2 = 0.55; p<0.05), and HOMA-IR (R2 = 0.44; p<0.01). MAT was positively related with VAT (R2 = 0.44; p<0.01) and IHL (R2 = 0.41; p<0.05). In CD, insulin resistance and adipose tissue dysfunction, including high MAT, are active players in bone deterioration, as confirmed by lower lumbar spine BMD and lower TBS. Thus, our findings point to an additional component of the already well-known complex mechanisms of osteoporosis associated with hypercortisolism.
